Centenas de gaivotas aterrissam e decolam dos pedaços de gelo, e pequenos pássaros pretos com bico curto (Little auk / Appaaraq) passam perto da Sardinha 2 e sentam no mar de azeite. Tudo vai bem, faço um chá e estico a massa de pão pro café da manhã. 🇬🇧 I dream that I’m awake and therefore sleeping more than I should. I dream that I’m looking after the boat, while the Sardine advances through the fog and between the icebergs. I wake up when I decide to go to sleep. Hundreds of seagulls land and take off from the ice floes, and small black birds with short beaks (Little auk / Appaaraq) pass close to Sardine 2 and sit in the sea of oil. All goes well, I make myself a cup of tea and stretch the bread dough for breakfast. 🇫🇷 Je rêve que je suis déjà éveillée et je dors donc plus que je ne le devrais. This video shows our trip to northeastern Sardinia and the Maddalena Archipelago, with a short detour to Corsica. The area is perfect for beginner sailors and charter crews. There are countless anchorages and opportunities to seek shelter away from the Strait of Bonifacio when strong winds prevail there. In my opinion, the area is truly fantastic and well worth spending some time there. Most of the time we sailed in convoy with two other boats, the “Henni” and the “Godelief.” This meant that we were able to film each other while sailing. Unfortunately, some of the footage is not very sharp, which is due to the reformatting of vertical videos into horizontal sections, but I hope that doesn't bother you too much. This video shows a lot of sailing scenes and is therefore purely a sailing video. It is intended to give an impression of this beautiful area. I also try to show some anchorages, both on the coast of northern Sardinia (the “Costa Smeralda”) and in the Maddalena Archipelago. At the end, we make a short detour to Corsica. After what could only be described as a disastrous opening day for the Japan Sailing Federation team competing in the 2025 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, the squad roared back into relevance with a fourth and a first to start Day 2 of the five-day biennial competition. A 14th in the third race of the day tempered the comeback, but the Japanese team was all smiles this evening as team principal Masuhiro Bamba, walked up to accept the prize for winning Race 5. Emirates Team New Zealand are four-time winners and Defenders of the 37th America's Cup and as such they get to set the regatta rules. The 38th event will be held in Italy and their design guru, Dan Bernasconi lays out the new rules. The Royal Ocean Racing Club’s inaugural Cowes Offshore Racing Series has signed off in style after seven thrilling, hard-fought races, marking the start of a bold new chapter for Solent-based offshore competition. Launched in the Club’s Centenary year, the series gave over 500 sailors, both Corinthian and professionals, the chance to go bow-to-bow in a compact but demanding programme. With the best five races counting from seven, the fleet faced everything the Channel could throw at them — from glassy Solent drifters where inches mattered, to bruising legs around notorious headlands and into the open sea. With a three-hour-long Bay Tour race as the final test for competitors, the 61st edition of the Rolex Big Boat Series hosted by St. Francis Yacht Club came to a stunning close. The skippers at the top of the podium in the J/105 and ORC B classes were awarded coveted Rolex Submariner Dates. Bruce Stone and Nicole Breault's Arbitrage came away victorious among the J/105s, the regatta's largest fleet, and Peter Wagner's J/111 Skeleton Key was the victor in the ORC B division. Eastern Yacht Club calls it the Reverse Rabbit. When Plan A—usually starting close to the pin—doesn’t go to, well, plan, the Reverse Rabbit is the exit strategy. It’s far from easy and success has to be measured against the alternative. But for Race 8 of the 2025 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, it was the only viable option for tactician Bill Lynn and his EYC teammates. They pulled it off, finished sixth in the race and won the day. Many were hoping to claim victory in the opening leg of La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec, but the honours went to Alexis Loison, (Groupe R E E L), who took the win with a race time of 3 days, 18 hours, 55 minutes, and 26 seconds. Hugo Dhallenne, (Skipper Macif 2025), and Charlotte Yven, (Skipper Macif 2023), completed the podium. For the second time in his career, and after 19 participations, Normandy sailor Alexis Loison secures another victory, following his 2014 triumph in Plymouth.

In this video, we will show you how we went ashore in 12 ft tidal anchorages without getting in the cold water! It's called a Dinghy Haul Out line and we learned it at the first Maine island we visited - Jewell. We can not simply drag our dingy ashore with us. 12 ft tides mean you would potentially need to drag your dinghy over 100 ft. And at 400 pounds, our dinghy is not very "draggable". But first, it was time for a visit home. We took a mooring ball in Falmouth Foreside to keep the boat safe. Wonderful spot - 50 mooring balls, protected and secure, and only 20 minutes cab ride to Portland airport. Dockside Grill is right at the marina, provisioning at Shaws is nearby, fuel, water and marine services are available, and beautiful hiking is near. https://guides.cruisingclub.org/harbor/falmouth-foreside/ Stephen and I left at the same time, but headed to different places. I visited the new grandchild in Michigan, and Stephen attended a retirement party for a dear friend at his former business. Stephen returned before I did - BONUS - that meant he worked on some projects ! New frig seals to keep the cold in, new faucet for easier dishwashing, a new electrical socket replacing an old rusty and dangerous one, and oil change on the dinghy engine. When I returned, we decided to visit Fort Gorges, a Portland landmark. Although challenging with currents, depths, and a rocky bottom, we did find a safe place to anchor right by the fort, and were able to dinghy close enough to go ashore, using a haul out line. Watch how it works! Fort Gorges was completed in 1864. It is a D-shaped, two-story, enclosed fortress, constructed entirely with local granite, and hosted 56 gun emplacements on the south, east, and west. https://www.portlandlandmarks.org/fort-gorges On to the city of Portland. Plenty to do and see, but no film! Next stop: Kennebunkport. This is a very small shallow area and really no place to anchor or grab a mooring. So, we anchored in Cape Porpoise. We came in right before a storm, and a friendly lobsterman directed us to his friends mooring ball, who was working another area. We were able to secure our vessel with his assistance and slept soundly that night. Next Stop is a new state: New Hampshire here we come! In this video series we are pointing North to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to go swimming up in the Arctic Ocean. Why? Because it’s there. Plus, it will make a great adventure for our growing boys who are learning how to dream BIG. Why not come along for the ride? Sometimes we live on our sailboat, other time we explore Terra Firma with our OVRLND rig. Either way, it’s always an adventure! In this video we joined up with our friends to spend three nights at their backcountry Alaskan cabin. Deshka Landing, near Willow, was our starting point, a boat and snowmobile launch on the Susitna River. Our friend Jack had arranged for a barge to take both of our families and all our gear to the cabin which required heading down the Susitna River and another 8 miles up the Yentna River. The boat ride was exciting and our river pilot expertly navigated each river exceptionally as he weaved his way through the gravel bars. Once arrived we settled in to learn about the area and how Jack had come across this unique property. Our time in the backcountry held several adventures. We rode ATVs several miles to their “neighbor’s” home, a classic Alaskan homestead set on 160 acres. There the kids picked berries and learned about growing food in remote Alaska. Another day trip was up to see the Yentna Station, the first checkpoint during the Iditarod Race from Anchorage to Nome. This is a business that provides lodging, food, fuel and liquid morale to anyone passing through this part of remote Alaska. The community in the Alaskan bush was larger than we had anticipated.
