Sailing in Svalbard brought us face to face with a walrus and a polar bear in the High Arctic. In this Expedition Svalbard episode, we explore Barentsburg, Arctic wildlife and remote glacier sailing at 78° North. In this episode of Expedition Svalbard, we sail deeper into the High Arctic and experience one of our most unforgettable wildlife encounters yet. A massive walrus surfaces beside our boat, its tusks cutting through the cold Arctic water just metres from the hull. Later, we spot a polar bear ashore — a rare and powerful moment in one of the most remote environments on Earth. Our voyage also takes us to Barentsburg, the Soviet-era Russian settlement on Norwegian soil. Coal smoke, Lenin statues and Arctic isolation create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Svalbard. From exposed harbour pontoons and dense Arctic fog to glacier fronts and drifting ice, this is real high-latitude sailing. Wildlife, geopolitics and raw Arctic nature — this is life under sail at 78° North. ⛵ Yacht: Bavaria Cruiser 46 📍 Locations: Longyearbyen, Barentsburg, Poolepynten, Ny-Ålesund 🌊 Conditions: 6°C, fog, Arctic currents, glacier ice #PolarBear #Walrus #Barentsburg #ExpeditionSvalbard #ArcticWildlife ⏳ Timestamps: 00:00 Intro 00:46 Walrus at Borebreen Glacier 04:18 Barentsburg - Soviet Style 13:11 Barentsburg Harbour Explained for Sailors 14:18 Good Bye Barentsburg – Poolepynten Ahoy! 16:39 A Polar Bear! 17:31 Walrus at Poolepynten 21:34 A Foggy Sail to Ny-Ålesund 🎵 Music from Epidemic Sound: A Great Journey by Dayon The Verdict by Trevor Kowalski Sphinx by David Celeste Ethos by Johannes Bornlof Shrines by David Celeste Niveus by Christoffer Moe Ditlevsen 🔗 Links: https://www.norwegiancruisingguide.com https://www.barentswatch.no/en https://www.yr.no/en 📺 Watch More… https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRvcLZL9-pokLoV22O1OP3p5eR32J-SDD 🚢 Subscribe & Hit the Bell 🔔 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAym9YS0z1-qYm-s47pNEfw?sub_confirmation=1 📍 Follow Our Journey: https://www.instagram.com/sailingpolaris https://www.facebook.com/sailingpolaris https://www.sailingpolaris.uk 🛥️ Ever dreamed of sailing the world? Solid-state lithium batteries have completely changed how we power ARGO. In this episode, we upgrade our sailboat’s battery system to safer, lighter, longer-lasting lithium – and the difference is immediate. You can research sailboat power systems endlessly – but some lessons only land once you’re living with them. From day one on ARGO, we’ve battled battery and power issues. Backwards wiring drained our original setup, replacements didn’t solve the problem, and after a few days of rain we were still watching our power disappear. When it became clear we didn’t have enough capacity to comfortably head off on more remote adventures, something had to change. After plenty of procrastination, spreadsheets, squinting at the bank balance and late-night research, the promise of doubling our usable power finally tipped the scales. In this episode, we take the plunge and upgrade to solid-state Lithium batteries – and the difference is already huge. Why we chose this setup: – Safest lithium batteries available – Around 10,000 cycles (at 80–90% depth of discharge) – Victron Energy compliant – Massive weight saving – 18kg each vs 60kg each for our old AGMs Jason takes ARGO down to the Gold Coast for installation (a 7-hour ordeal), then sneaks home via a cheeky short-cut through Canaipa Passage, threading through for a much deeper water journey. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Knowing we now have the power to sail further, stay longer, and live aboard without constantly worrying about batteries makes this upgrade one of the biggest confidence boosts we’ve had yet. Thanks for watching.
We left Moments in Time tucked safely in Fernandina Harbor Marina and drove back to Maryland to spend the holidays with family. When the celebrations wrapped up and we returned south, we traded Maryland’s biting low 30s chill for Florida’s welcoming warmth in the high 70s. Monica drove up from Jacksonville to spend the day with us, and together we wandered to the Amelia Island Lighthouse, taking in the sweeping views and the old oaks draped in Spanish moss like nature’s own lacework. From there, we headed to Fort Clinch, exploring its grounds and historic brick corridors before the rising temperatures—now in the 80s—pulled us toward the beach. We ended the afternoon combing the shoreline for shark’s teeth and other small treasures, the kind only the sea decides to share. As the sun slipped below the horizon, painting the sky in soft golds and purples, we made our way back to Moments in Time for the night. It was one of those rare, perfect days—a true moment in time. Our journey continues, and we invite you to share in the adventure. Subscribe and share the adventure! Waking up in Lilah's favourite spot, to celebrate her birthday. It was filled with swims and all of her favourite treats, which is the way to her heart! Here home-sickness starts to kick in - being on the other side of the world to all of your friends & family will do that. However, some beautiful souls, like Tara from @SailingTheResponsibleChoice make days like this a little easier. The following morning we wake and head South to Sveti Stefan - a coastal town with stunning surrounds, and a chill local holiday spot vibe. On the trip down we do something really silly - if only we realised 30 seconds earlier! But it had Shane jumping in the water at 40m depth, which is DEFINITELY not something he would do voluntarily... Want early access to our videos? We finally flew our Ullman Code 0 for the first time — and what better place than the Bahamas Bank? ⛵️💙 Gliding toward Lee Stocking Island in light wind, over some very skinny turquoise water, this was one of those magic sailing days where everything just works. The boat felt alive, the sail pulled beautifully, and the depth sounder definitely had our attention. Light air sailing, shallow water, and that unreal Exumas blue — this is why we cruise. #BahamasSailing #Code0 #UllmanSails #LeeStockingIsland #SailingLife #WhileOne

One hour of low tide and evening light across a quiet harbor on Vancouver Island. The tide ebbs with a natural cadence. Sea birds pass. An oystercatcher calls in the distance. No narration. No music. Just water, sky, and the slow settling of dusk. A place to pause.

This is Part 1 of a three-part conversation with boat designer Brent Swain. In this episode, Brent discusses his early life, his boxing years on the Saskatchewan prairies, and how those experiences shaped his philosophy of simplicity, durability, and folded steel sailboat design. We talk about: • Why steel makes sense offshore • The logic behind origami-style construction • Real-world durability versus theory • Lessons learned the hard way Part 2 and Part 3 continue the conversation, diving deeper into shipwrecks, offshore passages, and what truly matters at sea.

This is part 2 of a step-by-step build of a B&B Yacht Designs Spindrift 10 nesting dinghy, following the guidance from the build instructions. This video focuses on the gunwales, filleting, stitching removal and carbon fiber taping. She will be the tender to Flying Spur soon! I purchased the pre-cut "kit" to save some time, but the same results can be accomplished by purchasing the build instructions and cutting your own marine-grade plywood. This video is for those who are looking to build their own dinghy, and who wish to learn more about the process. This is the second project Brent and I worked on together, the previous being a 7' pram for Brent. I hope you enjoy, and I hope you take away some successes we had, as well as learning from some of the failures we encountered.

This week we're sailing from Grenada to Trinidad in the south Caribbean. A passage that takes us close to the coast of Venezuela, just a few miles across the water. This voyage isn't so much about open ocean miles or new anchorages, it's about transition. and letting go. Our sons, Declan and Ivan, are about to embark on their own journey, flying out of Trinidad to crew a super yacht delivery from Rhode Island to Antigua, stepping into the next chapter of their lives and careers. We've been incredibly fortunate to live, work and sail alongside them for so long, more than lucky, really. En el próximo vídeo veremos el reglaje de válvulas del motor, una operación clave para la salud y rendimiento del motor diésel marino.
► The First Sailing Yacht from a Powercat Specialist ► Aquila Boats, a leading name in the world of powercats, is making a striking entry into the sailing arena. After announcing its arrival on the sailing catamaran market, the shipyard is now unveiling its very first model, presented here at the 2026 Miami Boat Show: the 50 Sail. ► At first glance, there is no doubt, this is unmistakably an Aquila. The brand’s signature bar, seamlessly connecting the aft cockpit to the saloon, is immediately recognizable and remains a true hallmark of the builder. Beyond the rounded lines and elongated hull windows, Aquila also carries over an innovative concept from its powercat range: direct access to the flybridge from the foredeck. Perfectly integrated steps, extended by an elegant handrail, ensure a smooth and natural connection between these two living spaces. ► Several features clearly reflect the brand’s powerboat DNA: a crane system for the tender, an XXL owner’s cabin, particularly luxurious bathrooms, and independent access for each cabin. The interior design - especially the choice of materials, including refined curtains, leather finishes, and carpeting in the saloon - adds an extra touch of sophistication. ► The real surprise, however, lies in the boat’s sailing credentials. Aquila offers a genuine interior chart table - featured across the entire sailing range - along with a particularly impressive helm station installed on the flybridge. A central steering wheel, surrounded by winches with control lines led to either side, provides carefully designed ergonomics and outstanding visibility over the water. With 156 square meters of upwind sail area, the 50 Sail promises strong sailing performance. ► All that remains is to experience her underway during our sea trial scheduled for next week. ► Stay tuned! ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! After a month away from the boat, we’re finally back — and diving straight into projects. This episode starts with Jeff flying back to Minnesota to reunite with the family for Christmas and help pack up our house as we prepare to sell it. From there, it’s back to the boat to reassemble our Gori folding props, splash back into the water, and get moving again. Most of this episode is spent building the scaffolding and structure for our new solar arch and mounting solar panels as we continue upgrading our electrical system for full-time liveaboard life. It’s one of those projects that’s probably fine… right? We also take some time to explore Fort Pierce and Riviera Beach, Florida, as we slowly make our way south and continue learning what it really takes to live aboard a sailing catamaran as a family. This is real sailing life — the travel, the work, the problem-solving, and the moments in between. In today's Wlms Yacht Charters Charter Chat, we discuss the different options travelers have to get to Tortola, BVI. In 2026, Tortola serves as the main island in The BVI where private crewed charter yachts begin and end their charters. With limited flights into Tortola and over 25 daily flights into neighboring island, St Thomas, USVI, many ask can they start their charter in St Thomas? While this a common request, the current relationship between The USVI AND BVI is as Facebook would say "Complicated." There are some limited yachts that are currently able to legally pick up and drop off in The USVI and offer a BVI itinerary. These are VERY limited in number. So what's the best option for getting to Tortola? Find out in today's episode of Charter Chat. For more information on this topic, feel free to review: https://wlmscharters.com/british-virgin-islands/how-do-i-get-to-tortola-bvi/ To discuss your specific logistics, drop us a note at: https://wlmscharters.com/contact-us/
