This week, we’re taking Arabella international—we’re sailing from Provincetown, MA to Shelburne, Nova Scotia. But, before we go too far, we need to calibrate our NEW Pelagic autopilot. After our autopilot broke a few hours into our last multi-day offshore passage (leaving us to hand steer for three straight days and nights), Robin and I are both pretty intent on making sure the autopilot is up and running for our passage to Canada. We head out of Provincetown and into open water where we can calibrate our autopilot, and then it’s on! We set sail, including raising our new light wind sail, which we just picked up from Doyle Sails. Boy, does she sail beautifully. With 8 knots of wind, we cruised along at a comfortable 4-5 knots. Calibrating the autopilot, however, posed a bit more of a challenge. Turns out, the speaker in our VHF radio and the steel propane tank tucked away in a locker below the unit was interfering with the gyroscope in the autopilot, causing it to veer off course. We moved these disruptors, and it was smooth sailing from there on out. Well, smooth sailing in pea soup thick fog! We were a bit spooked to hear the roaring engine of fishing boats all around us, without ever actually seeing a fishing boat! Thank goodness for all the tech we have. This passage brought to you by radar and AIS! Fortunately, on our last day, the fog finally lifted and we picked up some solid wind! Thanks to a ripping current along the southwest shore of Nova Scotia, our speed was nothing too spectacular…but oh man, that was some good sailing! We sailed all the way to the Roseway River, where we dropped sail and motored into the channel that would take us to Shelburne. A quick phone call to Canadian Customs, and we got our clearance number in a matter of minutes. We had arrived! And just in time for the Dock Days fireworks display! In Shelburne, we explored the Dory Museum, and participated in some fun Dock Days events and celebrations, like the farmer’s market, antique car show, and the Festival of Lights! Canada has been a lovely stop so far. Join us next week, as we sail to and explore Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site! -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Sextant-Spielereien & nächtliche Autopilot-Probleme | Mit dem Kleinstkreuzer nach Schweden - Folge 4
Weiter gehts! Ultimately it was Julien Bentz’s J/99 Whimjy 99 that crossed the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin finish line at 00:42 local time to take victory after IRC time correction by 19 minutes. “It changed a lot and was really difficult over the last 24 hours, because the conditions were shifty and the current challenging,” Bentz commented. “It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but we fought until the end and it paid off. “For most of the crew it’s our first Fastnet, so it's a great achievement. We have been working on this project for two years and, while it was a mix of intense racing and adventure, there was also a lot of discovery for us along the way. What was their winning formula? “A mix of many things of course and we prepared very well for two years. The crew and the atmosphere also – we’ve been sailing together for a very long time – maybe 45 years with Romain Troublé.” “It was a very good race for this boat – upwind and downwind, with no reaching – it was perfect,” added Troublé, son of former America’s Cup skipper and supporter Bruno. “The Fastnet Rock two days ago in the fog and in the dark at two o'clock in the morning was quite an amazing memory for us.” Full story; https://www.rolexfastnetrace.com/en/j99-claims-rolex-fastnet-races-irc-three- #RolexFastnetRace #RORCracing 📸 RORC / Tidal Pulse
Sailboat Hardtop built in Bali, and even invites you to several adventures. Including a visit to what must be the worlds most secret and best-protected Starbucks. Maria and I are riding my motorbike to a waterfall, and showing you more from the daily life here. Sailing in a subtropical climate requires good protection, not only shade from the sun but also from extreme UV. Canvas doesn't last long in sub sub-tropical climate, and I was tired of leaks and repairs. So now I am making a permanent solution. I'm sharing my production methods, setbacks, and progress, and basically all you want to know about my Hardtop project for my Bavaria 55 Cruiser. This is not a how-to guide for building a HARD DODGER or HARDTOP. It is a journey showing how I do it in my way. Without claiming this is the way to do it. In this episode, I even share more from my social life here and some of my friends I spend time with. Thank you so much for tagging along and for the patrons' support in making this video possible. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it. Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me. Even though this is season 8 on YouTube, I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 7 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. I also have more than 10 years of experience as a captain in search and rescue at sea in Norway.
Built by the much appreciated Brandsma Shipyard, the Noordzeekotter 1200 is a known type of open cockpit yacht on the European waterways. Sturdy, well built and a lot of nice practical details she offers the owners couple and the occasional guests, a lot. Easy to handle with 126hp on tap, and bow-stern thrusters. Central heating, double glazing, genset, washing machine just to name a few of her creature comforts making her all weather proof. Other highlights are the large open cockpit, deck salon with 360 degree views, wide side decks and easy dock/jetty access. Located South West Netherlands.
The Beneteau Swift Trawler 35 is a beautifully designed motor yacht. She sails excellently with the strong engine, which has a speed of 19 knots, but can also sail very quietly, using a little diesel. There is plenty of seating space inside, in the cockpit and above in the flybridge. Many extra parts have been supplied to this yacht from the start. This yacht is recent and very well maintained. The boat is located in the southwest of the Netherlands, in Tholen. For more information contact De Valk Thuishaven https://www.devalk.nl/en/yachtbrokerage/810948/BENETEAU-SWIFT-TRAWLER-35.html

After months of unforgettable sailing, it’s time to put Mirage to rest for the summer. In this episode, I take you through the full my "patented" :) 47-step process of preparing our Amel 50 for long-term storage on land in Grenada. From flushing the watermaker and defrosting the fridges, to removing the Starlink and lifting the boat onto concrete blocks—this is the ultimate sailboat shutdown checklist. Whether you're a cruiser yourself, planning your first haul-out, or just curious what goes into mothballing a yacht, this video pulls back the curtain on the real work behind the dream. ⚓ Some of the key tasks include: ✔️ Adding diesel stabilizer & filling the tank ✔️ Washing & polishing everything ✔️ Servicing winches ✔️ Protecting against mold & humidity ✔️ Locking up every hatch, locker, and compartment And of course, it ends the way all big boat days should - with a well-earned glass of wine. Or two :) Thanks for watching, and goodbye (for now) from beautiful Grenada! 🌴 📍 Boat: Amel 50 "Mirage" 🧭 Location: Grenada 🍷 Mood: Tired but satisfied #SailingMirage #SailboatLife #BoatMaintenance #CruisingLife #Amel50 #GrenadaSailing #LiveaboardLife #YachtPrep #HaulOut #SailingGrenada #SailingCaribbean #BluewaterSailing #OffGridLiving #BoatWork #OceanLife #StarlinkAtSea #SailingCouple #FullTimeCruising #SailingAdventure #BoatChecklist
