The map is not the territory—and a "pretty wind map" is not a passage plan. In this second installment of our 5-part intensive series, we’re diving into the engine room of weather forecasting. After 85,000 miles at sea, I’ve seen how easy it is to trust a colorful screen and sail straight into a disaster. This video is about moving from "looking" at the weather to interpreting it like a professional. We break down where the data actually comes from, why different weather models often disagree, and how to use "Validation" to decide which forecast is worth betting your life on. 📘 GET THE BOOK & SAVE $100 My book "Be The Captain" is the foundation of this entire series. It pays for itself because every reader gets 20% OFF a PredictWind Standard or Pro subscription (up to a $100 savings). 👉 Grab your copy and the discount here: https://bethecaptain.com/ ⚓️ WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN VIDEO #2: We are taking the setup from Video #1 and putting it to work. In this session, we cover: The Anatomy of a Forecast: From weather buoys and satellites to GRIB (Gridded Binary) files. The Models Explained: Understanding the "personalities" of ECMWF, GFS, UKMO, ICON, and the AI-driven AIFS. PredictWind Proprietary Models: Why PWG, PWE, and PWAI provide the high-resolution edge you need. The Validation Tool: How to check which model has been the most accurate in your specific area over the last 24 hours. GMDSS Integration: Why you must never ignore official international maritime safety warnings, even if the routing looks clear. The "USS San Francisco" Rule: Why zooming in and setting exclusion zones (Boundaries) is the difference between a successful passage and hitting an underwater mountain. ⚖️ TECHNICAL DISCLOSURE & TRANSPARENCY To make this series possible, PredictWind provided the iPad and the professional editing used in these videos, along with my Pro account. However, I have received no cash payment for this series. I retain 100% editorial control. In this episode of Pirate Rodney’s Cuisines, I show how to fillet small fish step-by-step using croaker that we just scaled in the previous video. Many people struggle with small fish because the bones are tight and it’s easy to waste good meat. In this quick tutorial, I demonstrate the simple knife cuts that make filleting small fish easier and cleaner. View the details & cost of the products I use with my affiliate links below: KNIVES: https://amzn.to/4c00kdR AIR FRYER: https://amzn.to/4kV43f5 In this video you’ll learn: • How to cut around the small bones • Where to run the blade along the rib cage • How to remove the fillet without wasting meat • Tips for handling smaller fish like croaker, trout, and panfish This fillet will be used in the next step of our recipe where we turn the fish into delicious fish rolls. In this video, I’m finally sharing something I’ve been working on for a while now — the official “Mirage Martini” recipe — prepared at sunset, at anchor, aboard Mirage. Smooth, refreshing, and with just a touch of mystery — just like the ocean itself. Give it a try and let me know in the comments :) After a long day chasing the horizon, there’s nothing better than dropping anchor in a quiet, beautiful bay… watching the sun melt into the sea… and mixing the perfect drink. If you’ve been following Sailing Mirage, you know this cocktail has been a long time coming. Tonight, we make it properly. Oh, and I hope you'll enjoy the song and the lyrics I've made for that special little video!! :) 🍸 Mirage Martini 📌 Ingredients: 2.5 oz (75 ml) London Dry Gin 0.5 oz (15 ml) Dry Vermouth 0.25 oz (7 ml) Blue Curaçao 1 dash Orange Bitters (10 drops) Lemon twist (for garnish) Ice 📌 Instructions: Pour the gin, dry vermouth, Blue Curaçao, and orange bitters into a cocktail shaker. Add 4–5 cubes of ice. Shake well - about 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lemon twist (express the oils over the drink) or an olive. Give it a try, for that perfect “Mirage” effect - smooth, refreshing, and with a touch of mystery, just like the sea. 🌊🍸

Spring is approaching in the Northern Hemisphere, and with it the start of another yachting season. In this episode of Inside the Market, we take a closer look at the yacht brokerage landscape as it stood at the end of February 2026. Joining the conversation is Sophie Kemp, who has recently returned to Berthon after maternity leave and celebrates ten years with the company. Sophie specialises in sailing yacht brokerage and has also been closely involved in launching Berthon Essential, a dedicated platform for yachts under £110,000 designed to give smaller boats their own space in the market. https://boatsforsale.berthoninternational.com/  Together we discuss what we are seeing across Berthon’s five international brokerage offices and what buyers and sellers should understand as the new season begins. Conditions vary widely across the globe. In Newport, Rhode Island, over two feet of snow has made showing yachts a challenge, while changes to tariff structures are forcing some buyers to reconsider the costs of importing yachts into the United States and the wider implications for their businesses. Despite this uncertainty, the brokerage market continues to move. While enquiry levels remain modest overall, Berthon’s long-standing client base continues to provide stability, with more than half of transactions coming from repeat clients returning to buy or sell their next yacht. Pricing remains a sensitive issue across the market. There is pressure on values in many segments, particularly where there is a larger supply of comparable yachts available. However, well-presented yachts with strong pedigree, proper service histories, and good overall condition continue to attract buyers without difficulty. Another notable trend is buyer behaviour. A significant number of active leads are currently researching and monitoring the market rather than rushing to commit. With a good selection of yachts available in certain segments, many buyers feel comfortable taking time to evaluate their options before making a decision. The new yacht market continues to face challenges, although activity remains healthy in parts of the production segment. Major industry developments are also unfolding, including the widely reported bid by Donerail for MarineMax, a move that could have significant implications across the brokerage, marina, and service sectors. As ever, the fundamentals remain the same. Pricing correctly, presenting yachts well, and maintaining strong service histories continue to be the factors that determine which yachts sell and which remain on the market. Key Points • Newport office facing difficult showing conditions due to heavy snowfall, while tariff changes are creating uncertainty for some US buyers.  • Enquiry rates remain modest, but repeat clients continue to drive activity across the brokerage.  • Prices are under pressure across much of the market, although well-presented yachts still sell without difficulty.  • In segments with greater supply, buyers are taking time to research and secure the right deal.  • A larger number of active leads are monitoring the market rather than committing immediately.  • The new yacht market remains challenging, although activity continues in parts of the production sector.  • The proposed Donerail bid for MarineMax is a major development that could influence the wider yachting market. It has been a hot minute since we last posted a video, we have missed you all! We've been busy making that money to keep funding the refit, and it has been an absolute wild ride into 2026! In this episode we step back into time...August of 2025 to be exact! We have just completed the ENTIRE CHAINPLATE INSTALL & are now beginning to put our interior back together! This of course means, trimming our teak to fit the new size (ever so slight) larger chainplates...and all that goes with it. All the teak that had spent years getting damp from leaks had to be stripped and refinished. Please enjoy this episode, as it is going to be ONLY part 1 of likely several videos--Reconstruction of our salon interior. Travis has had a large hand in the making of this video, he has done all of the 360 footage stitching! It is pretty cool, I must say...very nifty camera we will be using more in future videos! In this episode, I realized something most people never think about… are you actually supposed to eat fish scales? After buying croaker and removing the scales in Part 1, I noticed something strange — some trout and salmon from the store have scales removed, and some don’t. It seems random. Even worse? My girlfriend has been eating them because she assumed they were already cleaned. View the details and cost with my affiliate links below: KNIVES: https://amzn.to/4c00kdR AIR FRYER: https://amzn.to/4kV43f5 In this quick 3-minute breakdown, I talk about: • Do some store-bought fish still have scales • Is it OK to eat them • Are fish scales are safe to eat • How to properly remove them fish scales • What to look for before filleting This leads into our full fillet + fish roll recipe episode coming next.

My beautiful guide Mana, gets us together with a family friend named Jean Philippe, he will be our guide into the rice harvest ceremonies called Kamangnene. We move to another anchorage in a fishing village called Elikin. We have been expected by the folks at Campement Villageois where we drop anchor. A great spot with food and drinks, and the very pungent aroma of fish drying a few hundred meters away. The next day are taken to gather oysters in the mangrove with two voracious Spanish chicks. Then we meet Jean Philippe at Eduard’s place where I am taught how to drink palm wine. I’m in the Kamangnene festivities where it is customary to go from one house to the other to be fed and given palm wine. We were offered some of the most wonderful meals under the shade of giant trees in the gardens of pure kindness and generosity. Some say it’s The Best Sailing Channel on YouTube! We have sailed into our eighth country, Portugal, on our journey from Sweden to the Mediterranean!🇵🇹 This video begins in the beautiful city of Porto, where we finally experience the sunny early spring days we’ve been longing for after our first month of storms and rain. We explore Porto’s charming streets, taste traditional Portuguese food and drinks, and soak up the atmosphere of one of Europe’s most beautiful coastal cities.☀️ Back on the boat, we install our new cockpit enclosure from Kapell & Annat and enjoy it for the very first time this season, a true game changer for liveaboard sailing life. We’re also deep in preparations for the long sailing season ahead as we continue south toward the Mediterranean.⛵️ We then set off on our longest passage at sea so far, just the three of us, heading toward Nazaré, 100 nautical miles down the Atlantic coast of Portugal. As we sail, we hope to avoid orcas, fishing nets, and heavy Atlantic swell. The wind is light, and although we enjoy a calm wing-on-wing sail, the passage takes longer than expected.

Should I buy the Island Spirit 410 instead of my new 525? 🤔 In this video I take you aboard the Island Spirit 410, the smaller sister ship to the Island Spirit 525e catamaran currently being built for me here in Thailand. At first glance it’s a seriously tempting boat—smaller, lighter, and a lot less expensive… so the question had to be asked: did I choose the right boat? I give you a full walkthrough of the Island Spirit 410. For more infor about the Island Spirit 410 contact Island Spirit Ron@groupislandspirit.com https://groupislandspirit.com/island-spirit-410/ After the tour, we head behind the scenes for something most people never get to see — a tour of the Island Spirit production factory where these catamarans are built. You’ll see where the hulls are molded, how the interiors are assembled, and how these boats go from raw fiberglass to finished yachts. Later that evening, Chloe and I explore a local Thai night market, trying street food and taking in the atmosphere. And stick around to the end because I give you a sneak peek of our next adventure — sailing in Koh Chang, one of Thailand’s most beautiful island cruising grounds. ⚓ In this video: Full tour of the Island Spirit 410 catamaran Comparing it to my upcoming Island Spirit 525e Inside the Island Spirit yacht factory Exploring a Thai night market Sneak preview of our next sailing adventure in Koh Chang If you enjoy these behind-the-scenes looks at the new boat build and life sailing around the world, make sure to subscribe and hit the bell so you don’t miss the next episode when we finally take the boat sailing. #Sailing #Catamaran #IslandSpirit #BoatTour #Thailand #SailingDoodles This channel is funded by viewers like you. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. Last episode, we left you hanging. Warren's nav panel project hit a snag—one component failed, and we had to wait weeks for a replacement part. Well, it finally arrived, and today Warren's finishing what he started. But that's not the only thing happening in this episode. We're exploring our first Fijian village, meeting locals, and learning about life beyond the resorts and tourist spots. We do a quick Sevusevu ceremony—presenting kava to the village as a sign of respect—which grants us permission to anchor and explore freely. We also bushwhack our way up a hill for an incredible view... until Warren has a complete meltdown over a spider. And just when we think we're settled for the day, the anchorage conditions shift. The winds pick up, and we're forced to move around to the other side of the island for better protection. What could've been frustrating turns into one of the most beautiful afternoon sails we've had in Fiji—stunning scenery, perfect wind, and a reminder that sometimes the unexpected moments are the best ones. This is the reality of cruising—boat projects, village visits, spider panic, and always adapting to whatever the weather throws at you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ⚓ Thanks for watching!
