The Nordhavn 47 Ranger has SOLD! She closed in August, 2025. This video was prepared for marketing and promotion, but between filming in July 2025 and video production in August 2025, a full price offer was received, and the video was put on hold. Ranger is an exceptional Nordhavn 47, a 2004 model year that was actively cruised and cared for by experienced yachties. She surveyed beautifully, including a very thorough buyer ordered inspection by Steve D’Antonio. The sellers of Ranger owned a Nordhavn 35 previously and are experienced trawler cruisers, airplane pilots and RV campers – they enjoy the best and take good care of their possessions. The “non-flybridge” model is sought after by purists who prefer the sleeker, low-profile look. Ranger is hull 25 in the Nordhavn 47 series. The popular two stateroom and two head configuration is a great layout. Her teak interior with granite counters is fitted out with the beautiful craftsmanship you appreciate on every Nordhavn. Ranger is powered by a Lugger LP668T main engine, keel cooled with dry stack exhaust (under 5,000 hours in August 2025). For redundancy she has a Lugger 844D wing engine (under 150 hours). To complete her diesel package she has a 16 kW Northern Lights generator (under 3,500 hours). Underway she enjoys the comfort of ABT TRAC stabilization and for arriving inshore she has a Maxwell windlass and Side Power bow and stern thruster. The mast and boom package was selected (with a hinged base) was ordered so that she could go below low bridges or tuck into a reasonable height boat house. Her Boston Whaler tender is a restored 1983, special 25th anniversary edition. Some times it pays to break the rules. While sailing back from the Bras d’Or Lakes to Halifax, we left on Friday Aug. 22nd, the day that Hurricane Erin was going by. Sailing superstition says it’s bad luck to set off on a Friday. Also, most sailors stay in safe harbors when such a big storm is any where nearby. Yet, I didn’t break the rules idly; I watched the track of the storm and had chosen ports bailout ports. Getting home from the Bras d’Or Lakes to Halifax is normally an upwind slog because of the prevailing southwest summer breezes. The northern edges of Hurricane Erin would create a strong northeasterly that would make the trip a fast, downwind ride. This was a chance too good to pass up. I determined the risk was worth the reward. Several hours into our surfing session down the south coast of Nova Scotia, we noticed blue sky to the north over the land and angry grey clouds to the south out to sea. During the day, we jibed downwind between the shore and the meanest looking clouds. Soulmates ended up having a great, fast sail. We averaged 9 knots for the 95-mile 11-hour passage from the exit of the Bras d’Or Lakes to Beaver Island Harbor, which is nearly two thirds of the way to Halifax. The wind blew in mid-20s with some solid gusts into the 30s, but since we were on a very broad reach with a double-reefed main and small jib, heeling was minimal. Our highest speed was a surf to 20.2 knots and had uncountable number of surges over 15 knots. There were hour-long stretches where we averaged 11 knots. Being comfortable in, and prepared for, high winds allowed us take advantage of these conditions. My decision to sail bore fruit, as the day after the storm, we had to motor the remaining 60 miles to Halifax because the prevailing southwesterly had returned. Comfort and preparation are the result of years of sailing in incrementally stronger winds and learning from those experiences. All sailors would do well to expand their sailing skills as did my crewmate Keven; she started out skeptical of my plan, but was smiling at the end of the our successful sail. I broke one other superstitious rule — we sail with bananas as part of our larder.

About 22 miles off shore Rockland Maine lies Matinicus Isle Plantation - the furthest island out from the coast. It is 2 miles long by a mile wide - 9 square miles of Beauty, Isolation, Independence. You need to love being alone. The population was 53 at the 2020 census. It's a 750-acre granite rock with the occasional beach shoreline, but mostly spruce and wildflowers and everything that grows in between. 1750 saw it’s first resident, among the native Americans. It’s now a mixture of permanent residents - lobstermen and summer residents - business people and artists that need to get away from their crowded lives elsewhere. Waterfront property goes for millions of dollars - IF you can pry it out of the locals hands. Good luck trying. Or rather - please don’t try. Leave it as it is, you can visit, but don’t change it. It’s wonderful the way it is. Just hike, sightsee, meet the locals and just BE. We dropped another message in a bottle between Matinicus and Monhegan Islands. A poppa è presente una piattaforma idraulica che permette di avere un accesso al mare, di alare il tender e di metterlo dentro al garage. All’interno del ponte di coperta è presente una cucina a C posta sul lato di dritta e una zona living con divano e tavolo basso, a prua della cucina abbiamo la timoneria interna e difianco la scala di accesso al ponte sottostante dove ci sono le cabine. Nella zona esterna a poppa c’è spazio per un grande tavolo da pranzo, un’area relax con divanetti e la scala di accesso al ponte superiore dove avremo un’altra zona social e relax con lettini, angolo cottura, frigo piastra e barbecue. La stazione di comando sul ponte superiore avrà tre poltrone e tutta la stazione di controllo. All’ estrema prua, passando dai due camminamenti laterali in coperta, si ha un’altra zona living con divanetti e cuscini.

It’s our last day in Greece aboard the charter catamaran, sailing from the beautiful island of Agistri back to Athens. As we entered the marina, a line of a couple dozen boats all tried to dock at once with the wind picking up—things got a little hectic, but we managed to get in safely. After one final meal together, it was time to say goodbye to Aubrey from Sailing Miss Lone Star. It’s been a fun collaboration, and we’ll definitely sail together again in the future. As the Ocean Race Europe fleet fought its way through the Mediterranean with yet more nip and tuck racing along rocky coastlines, through narrow passages as teams struggled to match the weather forecasts with what they were getting, they did so in a wind range of 0 to 65 knots! Ambrogio Beccaria’s (ITA) Allagrande Mapei Racing (ITA) delivered a spectacular home-team triumph in the early hours of Wednesday morning, taking first place on Leg 4 of The Ocean Race Europe 2025 into Genoa. Beccaria and his crew of Thomas Ruyant (FRA), Morgan Lagravière (FRA) and Manon Peyre (FRA) crossed the line in the early hours of Wednesday morning after two days of relentless racing from Nice. The win marks a career highlight for Beccaria, who called it “a dream come true” to claim victory on Italian waters. Behind them, Team Paprec Arkéa (FRA), skippered by Yoann Richomme (FRA), secured second after an intense duel in the final approach to the Gulf of Genoa. Race leaders Biotherm (FRA), with skipper Paul Meilhat (FRA), completed the podium in third place. The 600-nautical-mile course delivered everything the Mediterranean can throw at sailors with slow and tactical light-wind nights, fierce downwind sprints at over 20 knots, and the notorious Strait of Bonifacio’s swirling currents. #imoca #theoceanrace

Ambrogio Beccaria’s Italian-flagged entry Allagrande Mapei Racing team has pulled off a spectacular home-team victory after winning Leg 4 of The Ocean Race 2025 in style in Genoa Italy. Beccaria and his all-French crew, renowned multiple Vondée Globe competitor Thomas Ruyant, Morgan Lagravière, Ruyant's regular training partner, and co-skipper for his Route du Rhum in 2022, and Transat Jacques Varb 2023 victories, and 2023 49er F X Junior World Champion, Manon Peyre, finished the 600-nautical mile leg from Neace France after completing the course in two days, eight hours, 41 minutes, and 14 seconds. On the 52 SUPER SERIES’ return to the Mediterranean after two regattas in the Atlantic, 2025 circuit leaders American Magic Quantum Racing scored a resounding victory on the Bay of Palma Mallorca, lifting the top prize at Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week. It is the third regatta title in row for Doug DeVos’ US flagged team after wins in Baiona Spain and at last month’s Rolex TP52 World Championship in Cascais Portugal. The Breezy final day crowned three champions on Dublin Bay The weather co-operated once again on Dublin Bay to deliver a nail-biting conclusion to the 2025 Ilca Under-21 World Championships, where three new world titles were decided at the end of a full 12-race programme. After dominating all week, Roos Wind, of the Netherlands won the Ilca 6 Under-21 Women's title, while Ole Schweckendiek of Germany held his overnight lead to claim the Men's Ilca 7 championship. Tenth-placed Omer Vered Vilenchik of Israel won the Ilca 7 Youth Men's title. The Fireball World Championship 2025 concluded on Friday, 29 August, hosted by Circolo Vela Arco, (North Lake Garda, Italy), in what turned out to be a historic edition for both participation and the number of nations represented. These Worlds once again confirmed the vitality of the class, with 136 boats from 14 nations, featuring veterans and established champions racing alongside many young sailors and women, for a week that blended competition, friendship and enjoyment. The yachts participating in the international sailing event, Aegean Regatta, organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean & Island Policy of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, in cooperation with the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, arrived in Mytilene on Friday afternoon. With the completion of the 4th race from Plomari to Mytilene, the battle for first place in each category has grown fiercer, and everything will be decided in the final coastal leg of Mytilene. Laurent Hay, from France, is the new leader at the 2025 Finn Gold Cup after two more races were completed in Cascais Portugal, on Wednesday. Italy’s Alessandro Marega is second with Valerian Lebrun from France in third. The race wins went to Hay and Italy’s Arkadii Kistanov. The forecast was similar to Day 1 with a little more breeze on the cards. Though three races were scheduled to catch up the programme, a 14 hundred start and several recalls in Race 3 meant time ran out so only two were completed. The Daishan leg of the WingFoil Racing World Cup Series has kicked off with a bang, with nearly 80 sailors tackling three long-distance races in challenging conditions. The stakes are high, with 500 ranking points, and 60,000 Euro prize money on the line, making this the most important event of the series to date. Kamil Manowiecki from Poland dominated the day, leading every race from start to finish. "I spent two weeks training at the venue to learn the conditions and especially the currents, and it's paid off," said Manowiecki. Sean Herbert from New Zealand had a consistent day with three seconds, and Mathis Ghio, the French king of wingfoil racing, finished third.

We continue on sailing through the wonderful Azorian islands in this episode, starting in Sao Jorge anchored off the lovely town of Velas we find some amazing hikes before sailing on to the lovely to the island of Terciera where they have a very different way of exploring the country roads and tracks. We then sail overnight to the largest of the islands Sao Miguel, a chance for boat jobs at the dock before investigating this active volcanic island.
