And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. It is always close racing for the last series of the year as SLYC hosts the annual Frosties Series. The first day of racing was anything but Frosty, with the sun making a rare appearance shorts were more the order of the day. Go To Red lead off the start line before sailing in a hole under a cloud that moved across the course, this allowed the the boats on the right hand side of the beat to slip past before the wind shut down completely.

We are on the River Thames with owner Martin Goodrich on his fantastic 38 ft Gaff rigged yawl from 1910. We had sunshine and piles of enthusiasm from skipper and crew but little wind as we pottered about on this world famous river. A huge run of bad luck for Avalon. We leave for our first overnight passage and were forced to learn a series of lessons the hard way. Having to choose between heading into a thunder storm with 40 knots of breeze in irons, or ducking in to a bay and dropping anchor in a former World War II minefield. Whats the truth about Tunisia? At first we thought it was just a plastic rubbish dump for the Mediterranean with not much to write home about (especially the food, of which we tried over 20 places both cheap and expensive) but then we grew to appreciate this place with it's own special brand of culture - despite getting on the wrong side of the law and getting our drone confiscated. They say it a lot about Africa, it gets under your skin and you fall in love. This vlog features ancient cities, the beautiful mosques and doors, our experience of hauling out and of course our illegal drone footage which we hastily downloaded before its confiscation! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We made our way to Rat Cay where we were hoping to find a good anchorage for the night. We dropped anchor and had a fantastic evening enjoying the beautiful views from this protected anchorage, but once it got dark and the tides began to change, we soon realized we were anchored in a strong current of water with an opposing wind. At last we get Javelot back in the water and take her for a wee blast down to Urquharts Bay at the mouth of the Whangarei Harbour to stretch her legs and our own. Then it was back to the realities of life, a blocked toilet, which is always a joy to work on. The countdown is now almost complete. The boat begins to sparkle as Declan and Ivan scrub away all the dirty marks on deck. Then Finn and Rachel partake in a three hour supermarket shop of the essentials chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Finally all that’s left to do is welcome the two additional crew members we are taking with us on our sail to Fiji: Josh Lyon, a young adventurer, who has sailed an ocean with us before and Mike Moss our local organic farmer, testing his limits.
