Maria and I are sailing from bay to bay along the pretty coast of Ecuador. Isla Salango does not look too enviting to explore by land, so we decide to take a slow boat day and just hang out, swim, watch the local tourist boats pull up and enjoy the quiet of the bay once they are gone again. The anchorage of El Islote has some great surf, but it's a little too far away for us to paddle over there and it also looks a bit beyond our skill level. The anchorage is a bit rolly for our taste, so we move up South a bit again, to Cabo San Lorenzo. Sailboat Karl is loving all the movement and is showing himself from his best side. No major issues apart from a moody starting battery. But hey, that's basically like nothing in comparison to other Karl surprises... Ternate and neighbouring Tidore were the world's major producer of cloves upon which their rulers became among the wealthiest and most powerful sultans in the Indonesian region. Much of their wealth, however, was wasted fighting each other. There is a road circling the coast of the island and I rented a motorbike and drove the 42km, stopping every now and then when I spotted something interesting. Sailing the Mediterranean in November can be fantastic. Our trip from mainland Spain to the island of Ibiza was a great overnight sail. Accompanied by dolphins and sailing in shorts and tee shirts is not something we're used to this late in the year. We found some wonderful sheltered anchorages in Formentera and Ibiza, swam in the crystal clear waters, practiced our paddle boarding and generally hung out on the white sand beaches. With the children leaving home we decided to sell our house in the UK and buy a boat in Holland. After two years refitting our Hans Christian 48T we have now set off a world voyage. We are retiring early because we want to attempt this voyage in good health and while we're fit and strong enough to really enjoy it. We will have to work a bit as we go until we can draw our pensions and we honestly don't know how well that will work. In our real lives we are journalists and filmmakers so it was only natural for use to document our travels by filming the journey. We aim to produce a professional standard vlog of the whole trip and try to give the viewer a real insight into what it's like to live and travel on a 48 foot sailboat. Our first aim is to sail South. After a winter getting iced in on the Markermeer in the Netherlands Judy insisted on warmer weather! So if you start from Episode 1 you will see us setting off from Eastbourne in the UK and travelling along the South Coast to Plymouth to enter a rally called ARC Portugal. Our first goal is to reach the Mediterranean and that means sailing across the infamous Bay of Biscay. This was a very good test for our boat as the bay lived up to it's fearsome reputation and split the whole fleet with a force 10 storm. Storm Miguel cut through our path and meant we had to run to mainland Spain to escape the massive seas and fearsome winds. Six boats couldn't make it in time and spent several very uncomfortable days at sea. The fleet had several broken boats, but thankfully no injured people. And this was just Episode 2! The excitement continued for the rest of our trip to the Med. Dolphins played in our bow wave, we sampled fantastic local foods and wines, great port in Porto! We found some beautiful anchorages and visit some wonderful historic places like Lisbon in Portugal, Cadiz in Spain and the fascinating port of Gibraltar. We will show you what it's like to winter in the Mediterranean, how much it all costs and give hints and tips on where to go how to save money with your boat and the places you stay. We are also talking to other sailors. After years of broadcasting journalism we know how to get peoples stories and we regularly film other sailors to show their boats and lifestyle as well as ours. We can always learn from others. Our long term plan is to spend a few years in the Mediterranean, on our list of place we want to visit are; Mallorca, Malta, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, Tunisia, to name but a few! Relationships ain't easy on a boat. Sailing to super remote places like the islands off of Indonesia requires a solid relationship. We live in a small area of space, are always on top of one another. There is no escape and we are together all the time! How does that affect your relationship? Where do you go if you need to get some space or have an argument. You can't exactly sleep on the couch 2m away from your partner... With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we are returning to Thailand in the coming months and then taking the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! Nature is awesome. An electical storm passes over Freedom with some very close hits. There is lightning everywhere and I am outside to enjoy it. I am running out of food because of bad weather and no fish caught. After 3 days I have a short spear at the end of the day without the electrical threat from above. But no luck for me I am afraid. It is out of season and the launchers aren't coming anymore with the veggies. Bugger. SO I visit an island where I hear there is a lemon tree and go searching for it. The storms have finally left so I am free to go out spearfishing. I easily get a nice snapper and come face to face with the largest nurse shark I have ever seen. Well we might have a premiere this time. Outremer will soon launch an entirely new model between the 51 and 5X. We fell for the beautiful design in which comfort, looks and speed are combined. We'll get one of the first 7, ours will be handed over somewhere in 2021. So on short time we'll still be sailing on the current Greatcircle across the Atlantic into the Carib.

This weeks video takes you through my whole first experience paragliding Fazayah Bay in Oman. The winds were light and variable on takeoff so I had some Paragliding fails, but then I was rewarded by some amazing views and a wonderful flight into the bay and almost on to the beach. My previous video was a fun music edit. This video is without music and of the whole flight with nothing left out so you can follow exactly how it was. In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. Here is the "World on Water" and in the last 7 days globally in Sailing we have reports on:  The 6.5 metre class Mini Transat started their last leg to the Caribbean, The Transat Jacques Vabre broke into two divisions going East and West and the Multis MOD 70's started from Brest to Race to marks around islands off Rio De Janiero and Cape Town before returning to the start. To report on this US Vendee Globe sailor Ryan Breymaier was on Tom Ehman's Sailing Illustrated and he explained firstly what happened on Alex Thomson's HUGO BOSS as they cut their keel off, the start of the last leg of the Mini Transat Boulangère to Martinique and we have a report from around the fleet of the IMOCA's on Day 7. So it's a French Sailing Week and the Atlantic is dotted with hunderds of yachts and sailors. More on Hugo Boss as it limps like a keel less Americas' Cup boat back to a safe haven in Cape Verde.

This week on Kawai we leave the Ionian Island of Zakynthos and sail to the Greece main land. We sail to Katakolon where we catch the train to Olympia, the birth place to the Olympic Games. Trace relives the spirit of the ancient games and beats me in a sprinting race. We then set sail and head further south into the Peloponnese visiting Pylos and Navarino Bay where we check out the old fort of Navarino and one of Greece's iconic beaches, Voidikoilia Beach. During our hike we stumble across Nestor's cave, where Greek God Hermes was said to have hid the 50 cattle he stole from Apollo. We also have a low key celebration for when we first met 19 years ago and have a beer at the local beach bar. This is just the beginning of our sail around the Southern Peloponnese and we have loved it so far. Next week we visit Methoni, Kalamata and many more beautiful locations. Vamos a poder realizar diversas integraciones de la tecnología: "Solarface" de Tecnalia e varias partes del barco, a saber: - Capota antirociones. - Tapacetes de tambuchos de proa. - Cubierta principal. - Arco solar de popa. Sailing ORIZON - Segeln im Mittelmeer... Unsere letzte Etappe in dieser Segelsaison bringt uns in den Fluss Magra. Unterwegs kommen wir an Porto die Pisa vorbei, von wo aus wir mal kurz nach Pisa reinschnuppern. Dann geht's hoch in den Golfo di La Spezia und wir ankern einige Tage in der hübschen Bucht Le Grazie. Außerdem gibt noch etwas Neues bei uns... Nun geht's erst mal in die Winterpause und wir verabschieden uns bis zur nächsten Segelsaison. Wir freuen uns schon riesig aufs nächste Jahr und werden wieder viele Videos vom Segeln, Reisen und Meer machen. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Our last leg in this sailing season brings us to the river Magra. Along the way we pass Porto the Pisa, from where we take a quick sneak peek at Pisa. Then we go in the Golfo di La Spezia and we anchor a few days in the pretty bay of Le Grazie. Après des conditions difficiles de la veille et de la nuit, le catamaran continue sa route directe vers les Canaries et sa prochaine escale. Le soleil et de retour, le sillage du catamaran est impressionnant.

We're anchored in an island group in Northern Lynn Canal, with a view of both the Chilkoot and Chilkat ranges. One of those shallow, toehold anchorages we'd only dare in settled weather. But O so beautiful!

LUNA was built in 1997, and sheathed with copper plate two years later. Several owners later, she fell on hard times and went derelict. We bought her back for $1 to scrap her out. In the process we take a good look at how her copper plate fared.
