She is fairly comfortable with 15 to 20 kts of wind. Freshwater capacity to last over 2 weeks and a fuel range of 13 days steaming. About the Boat ''SY Red Current'' is a Southerly 31 with the construction of GRP and rigged as a sloop with Aluminium Mast. Her LOA is 31 feet and she has a beam of 10 feet with a draft of 7 feet. She also has an electric swing keel which makes her draft very shallow and easy to enter in shallow water. Sailing offshore with 3 kids is no simple task, after making sure the boat is working and is well stocked up , we then have to make sure the kids are occupied and educated. How we saved £100 replacing the battery in a Raymarine SmartPilot handset. Our Raymarine Smartpilot stopped working on the built in rechargeable batteries so we had to keep it plugged into a 12v supply. Not ideal. Raymarine want over £100 to replace the batteries. We found a hack to do it yourself for less that €10!! This week we are in Saba. This tiny island that sits in the elbow of the Eastern Caribbean chain is only 5.1 square miles big, but has the highest elevation in all of the Netherlands. After a year their borders were closed due to the pandemic, we got special permission to enter. We find out that we are the first boat to have visited since the shutdown, so we do get some looks while we explore the island. We set out to hike, Mount Scenery has grand views of the ocean and islands that surround it, if it clears up for you. This active volcano is the highest in all the Netherlands and is potentially dangerous, but this isn’t what makes Saba one of the most dangerous islands in all of the world. But instead it has been the target of more major name storms than anywhere else on earth. We get quite the workout while hiking, climbing, slipping, skipping all over the island. We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef... We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace as we have just had our first baby, born in Malaysia! Now completing our second major refit, Nandji is ready for the world when the world is ready for us!!! From the base of a VOLCANO on the verge of ERUPTION, we embark on a very windy and rough 2 DAY and 2 NIGHT PASSAGE to Antigua. If we've learned one thing, it's that we can't pretend to be masters of mother nature. We may use the wind to our advantage and benefit from the bounty of the sea, but it can all turn on you in a moment and you're entirely at her mercy. We were VERY lucky to have made the decision to leave St. Vincent and the Grenadines about 2 months ago, obviously not knowing that the La Soufriere volcano would soon erupt with such devastating force. But in winter conditions of 20-30 knot winds and extremely disturbed seas in the island channels, our two day passage was no pleasure sail. SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners. Hull number three of the incredibly popular Nordhavn 55 design, she is a strong, capable offshore cruiser and one of the most popular trawlers that Nordhavn has built. She has been underway seeking adventure since she was commissioned. Her sellers are the third owners, experienced boaters, who knew ENTERPRISE III was something special when they purchased her and have actively travelled thousands of miles while maintaining her in “ready to go” condition. The original buyer had owned many other trawlers and was one of the first to realize the potential of the 55. He made excellent selections in layout out and equipment and traveled thousands of miles before turning her over to the second owners. They too were active cruisers owning her for four years. She has always been pampered while actively cruising along the west coast of North America, spending most of her time between Alaska and the PNW (all seasons) and Mexico Sea of Cortes. For the past seven years the current owners/sellers have enjoyed full-time cruising aboard this remarkable trawler home primarily in Mexican, tropical waters. The Nordhavn 55 design is substantial, she measures nearly 61’ overall and her impressive size features a tall freeboard for a dry ride and contains generous headroom throughout. Her high bow, efficient hull, practical layout, and luxurious amenities make this yacht ideal for ocean passages and remote coastal cruising. The quality of fit and finish has earned Nordhavn a reputation for seaworthiness, comfort, and strong resale values. The Nordhavn 55 model has been the choice of both novice and veteran cruisers and her ocean crossing capability, storage for provisioning and reliable equipment installed make her a mostly self-sufficient vessel for visiting isolated locations for long intervals. Complete with an owner’s stateroom aft, guest cabin forward and captain’s cabin aft, Enterprise III provides plenty of accommodating options for comfort and rest aboard. One of the great features that helped launch the success of the Nordhavn 55 is the incorporation of a private head and sink on the bridge deck. This “day head” is aft to starboard and is a great use of space to provide this essential convenience. The location is ideal if you are on watch in the pilothouse and is a quick few step away from the action in the saloon. The pilothouse is what separates the Nordhavn 55 from the typical motor yacht. The window placement provides a near 360 view which rivals that of a large commercial boat. Saímos no dia 1º de janeiro, de São Lourenço do Sul/RS em direção a Pelotas/RS, na Lagoa dos Patos, a distância é de 45nm e de aproximadamente 9h de navegada. Navegamos usando vela e motor, o vento era fraco e queríamos chegar com a luz do dia. Além do que, navegar no canal da Feitoria exige atenção pelos bancos de areia ao longo do canal, e ainda nos encontramos com vários navios que cruzaram no sentido contrário. Optamos por não atracar em nenhum clube em Pelotas, para mantermos o isolamento, já que tínhamos mantimentos suficientes. Chegar no Canal do Rio São Gonçalo e no Arroio Pelotas que é a cidade onde “nasceu” o Arachane, no estaleiro Villas Boas, foi muito emocionante para nós. Pois significa a realização do nosso sonho de construir o barco. Esperamos a passagem de uma frente fria, entre os finais de tarde com por do sol muito bonito, seguimos viagem para Rio Grande/RS. Damit wir eine große Kabine im Vorschiff haben, bauen wir die Trennwand auf unserem Catalac 9m aus. Dadurch wird auch die Luftzirkulation verbessert. Anschließend baue ich eine wegnehmbare Wand in der Mitte auf, falls ich mal mit einem Freund segle und daher zwei Einzelkabinen benötige.

Erneut segeln wir in die Baja California und üben uns im Apnoetauchen. Es kostet große Überwindung auf 13m Tiefe in eine mehrere Meter lange Höhe zu tauchen. Noch dazu wenn diese nur ein knappen Meter breit ist. Am Abend machen wir noch ein entspanntes Lagerfeuer am Strand und genießen unsere Zeit am Meer. Nun ist es vollbracht. Wir haben die Ostsee umrundet. Toll ist es gewesen. Aufregend, abwechslungsreich und zwischendurch auch mal entspannend. Wir haben viele nette Menschen und interessante Länder kennengelernt. Hier ein paar Fakten zu unserer Fahrt. Wir haben an 58 Orten festgemacht und sind 1.700 sm über die Ostsee und knapp 200 km auf dem Götakanal gefahren. 45 % der Zeit konnten wir segeln. 178 Tage haben für auf dem Boot verbracht davon 62 Tage in Bewegung und 116 Hafen- oder Ankertage.
