We anchor at Egmont Key and explore Fort Dade; an abandoned military fort which is now a national wildlife refuge and state park. There we stumble upon an old brick road, the cutest gopher tortoises, and beautiful ruins overlooking the gulf coast. Welcome to our channel, Marina Rats! We are Jordan, Shira, Naja, Taj, Bug, and Beans. Currently sailing on S/V Brighter Days, a 2010 Lagoon 400. The channel name came about while watching the kids scurry around marina docks like little rats. Chatting it up with all of the other boats going by, and constantly eating, leaving crumbs behind them wherever they go. Making short videos is a fun way for us to document our travels and share it with family and friends old and new. Log 14 | With a stress crack in our original forestay chainplate, we were determined to have a new one fabricated to replace it. And of course, the new one needed to be bigger & stronger! We've been trying to get this boat project completed since day one of purchasing our sailboat.. and it's finally done! The original chainplate was thought to be either 304 or 308 stainless and only 1/4" thick, so we replaced it with 1/2" 316 stainless steel. And oh wow is it shiny!! Thank you Daanco Welding for coming to our rescue with this one! 🍻To keep the videos coming & help us continue our adventures, show your support here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sailingseak 📷Follow along on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/sv.seapearl Chapters: 00:00 Start 01:37 Dismantling Sea Pearl(again) 05:29 Out with the old 07:05 Ed burning his hand 08:23 Bending the steel 09:35 Test fit 10:39 Sanding & polishing 11:40 Installation 12:40 Shiny & new! _____________________________________________________________________ #sailing #sailboat #boatrepairs

A hard top bimini will protect us from the weather while sailing. We salvaged this aluminum frame from a powerboat that was being crushed in the boat yard. Now we need to cut it apart to fit our sailboat and then put the pieces back together to create the perfect solution to hold our solar panels and catch water while keeping us dry. This means learning to weld aluminum with a Hobart 140 mig welder. We are a family preparing to sail around the world in our electric sailboat. Join our adventures as we learn to sail and figure out all we need to know about living on a boat with kids. **************************************** If you came here looking for our Amazon links, you're a special kind of awesome human. Hey y’all, We head south on the Florida Intracoastal Waterway (aka "the ditch”) and pass through St. Augustine, Palm Coast, Daytona, and New Smyrna. We're Esther and Michael, an American couple with writing and photography backgrounds. In 2017, we sold our home in Atlanta, getting rid of 99% of our books and gear, and moved aboard a 1994 Island Packet 35 named Hope that needed some love (and boat work!). As we learn how to become better sailors, we’re exploring the Intracoastal Waterway and we’re especially interested in living small to gain abundance—cultivating sustainable living habits and having more time for nature and art! And we're learning about ways to 'live small' by reducing our waste footprint on and off the boat! Thanks for supporting our story! Hope you enjoy it Please Subscribe: UC_JK6Lmdh7pnO7VnIKUgRzQ Support us on https://gogetfunding.com/RoyalAtenea/ Thank you for our Supporters: Andrew Mayer; Gautier Blin Who are we? Our passion is Sailing and the Sea, we bought Royal Atenea with the intention to start cruising around the world after spending all our lives working hard at sea. After we bought this beauty we found that it needed some love and care as it was abandoned by the previous owners so we are taking our time to bring her back to life. Eventually around the world trip will commence when the boat is fully upgraded for crossing the oceans and other continents. We are also working on the Electric Conversion of the first Jongert. About the Boat ''SY ROYAL ATENEA'' was built in Holland in 1973. Her original name was ''Antares''.She is a Jongert Trewes Design with 5mm Steel Hull and rigged as a Ketch with Aluminium Masts. Her LOA is 19.3m and she has a beam of 4.6m with a draft of 2.98m She weighs 33t and she can cruise at 7 kts with the engine and 8-10 kts on sail depending on the wind. She is fairly comfortable with 15 to 20 kts of wind. Freshwater capacity to last over 2 weeks and a fuel range of 13 days steaming. About the Boat ''SY Red Current'' is a Southerly 31 with the construction of GRP and rigged as a sloop with Aluminium Mast. Her LOA is 31 feet and she has a beam of 10 feet with a draft of 7 feet. She also has an electric swing keel which makes her draft very shallow and easy to enter in shallow water. #sailingfamily #boatrepairs #offshoresailing #atlanticcrossing #repairsatsea #bluewatersailing #autopilot #solarpanels Our Atlantic crossing was going well for a while and then our autopilot started squeaking very noisily so we tried to take it apart to grease it up while hand steering. Then we had a burning smell come from the navigation area which we discovered was some loose wires leading to the solar controller which explains why we were not getting much charge from the solar panels. We continue to celebrate different countries around the world and catch lots of flying fish on our deck without even trying. We also finally manage to hoist our ballooner sail after 3 years of thinking about it. Now we just need to work out how to drop it again.... In this episode we sail slowly to Cherbourg in France. At one point I almost thought we where sailing backwards so then we gave up and supported with the motor. We show just how pitch black it can be during a night sail and how we use the radar to spot other boats in the dark. In Cherbourg we look at the town and make some boat work. We are currently sailing along the Atlantic coast of Europe. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. The sailing in our home water the Baltic Sea is part of our preparation to sail to the Mediterranean Sea. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.
DON'T CLICK HERE: https://bit.ly/3dI3hBn Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 26 In this episode we can really see the progress, Yabá is starting to look like a boat again! We opened our hearts about feeling discouraged about the project, we tighten some nuts, we celebrated tiny (and big) victories and we made sure we enjoyed every part of the process. We hope you enjoy this! X ༄ We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. It was August 2019 when we sailed into the harbor here in Vava’u, Tonga. A LOT has happened since then, including surviving a couple of cyclone seasons, a pandemic, a 7-month quarantine layover in Fiji, and a remote island boat refit. It’s been a long time since we’ve lost sight of land and experienced the raw power of the sea. Out here, the ocean controls everything and we’re just along for the ride. Which to me is the allure of sailing. It’s a rare state of mind and body where we're reminded of what it is to be human, vulnerable, to endure, survive, and thrive. 24 hours at sea is but a drop of water in the bucket for a voyaging seafarer. But for these dehydrated sailors, it feels like a tall glass of water. WHO ARE WE? We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living Off The Grid and exploring the world for 10 years. Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America. Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not! Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild #adventures and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible. We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life. And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure. In order to access the bulkheads even further, we have to rip out more walls in the cabins of our hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran. We find more and more damage as we tear the boat apart one cabin at a time. We also do all of our last minute prep work before hauling out in next weeks episode, where we have to straighten this 15 tonne, 45ft catamaran before we glass her back into place. This series will show never before seen footage of how we straightened and strengthened a 45ft production catamaran, in order to be able to complete a circumnavigation. Located in Linton bay, in Panama, we meet our fair share of challenges trying to rebuild this boat from the bulkheads up... The COST of cruising ESCALATES. We're faced with a BIG repair and an associated big price. Our generator gave out a few months ago...while it still ran, ever since a hard overheating, it wouldn't stay running more than a few minutes. We debate the necessity of the generator and whether the expense is worth it...then dive in. But...surprise...it's not going to be a simple solution and the price keeps going up while our time in Antigua ticks down. Enjoy!! And be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT EVERY FRIDAY! Cheers!! We finally found a weather window to leave Porto and continue our trip to the South. There was little wind but we didn’t want to wait any longer. The waves were 2-3 meters at the moment, which was already more than enough for me. In a few days the wind would pick up but the waves would be higher too, so no thank you. After spending the entire morning dodging fishing flags we decided to sail further away from the coast. The rest of the day was pretty boring; there was not much we could do because we were rocking on the waves. We passed by Lisbon in the afternoon. We thought about stopping in this beautiful city but decided not to eventually. We didn't want to be stuck here for weeks because of the weather and we had to get to our appointment at the shipyard to get our sail drive repaired. We tried our code 0 for the very first time and saw lots of dolphins on this trip. We were welcomed to the South of Portugal with a beautiful sunrise. It was beautiful to sail along the southern coast of Portugal. We recognized a lot of the places we visited before with our camper. The sea was super smooth until we reached the bay of Lagos. We arrived in the Marina of Portimão around noon. Turns out we would only be staying there for one night. We had planned to have the boat hauled out in Portimão to fix the sail drive. But we were now told to go to Lagos to have this done. The trip to Lagos was amazing! The weather was great and the sea was calm. We got to enjoy our lunch on the front deck while admiring the coast of Portugal with its beautiful beaches and caves in between the rocks and cliffs. By the time we arrived at the boatyard, the wind picked up a lot. It was a challenging situation to dock the boat in a narrow space, close to another boat and with wind gusts up to 20 knots. After a few tries and the help of almost all of the boatyard staff pulling ropes and shouting directions, we got her on the hydraulic lift. But just as she was out of the water, we heard a huge bang, saw smoke coming out of the trailer and oil was spraying everywhere. This was going to take a lot longer than we expected. Make sure to SUBSCRIBE to our channel if you want to join us next week to see what happened at the boatyard. Thank you for watching!!
