2010 Lagoon 400 - 4 Cabin/2 head version
We sail from Sanibel Island to the Dry Tortugas. Jordan pulls an all nighter with strong winds and choppy seas. We wake up to a large pod of Atlantic Spotted dolphins playing in our bow wake and arrive at Fort Jefferson, an abandoned fort which is now an incredible National Park at the very tip of the Florida Keys.
We try our hand at geocaching for the first time on the island of Cayo Costa in Florida. Our plans to travel South come to a stall in order to try and fix our never ending issues with our dinghy outboard. Chef Naja cooks up some mean pancakes. Welcome to our channel, Marina Rats! We anchor at Egmont Key and explore Fort Dade; an abandoned military fort which is now a national wildlife refuge and state park. We untie from the dock and take off for the first time on Brighter Days.Our first spot we anchor is Emerson Point. We test out the dinghy which hasn't been used for a year and navigate through the icw for the first time and check out a beached sailboat.
We move into our new traveling home, a 40 ft Lagoon 2010. The kids are happy to be in a bigger space. Naja gives a little tour of our tiny home on the water and Jordan begins the first of many boat projects, fixing the fridge.
We sail to San Diego and find out there are no anchorages or slips available. Also, some big changes are ahead!
We sail south in order to escape the smoke. We anchor at cool little spot in Mission Bay between the harbor and beach. The kids get to try ut surfing for the first time. Bodhi goes paddle boarding and get to stretch his legs on the beach. Jordan and Taj snorkel in Avalon.

We decide to sail north towards the Channel Islands and Santa Barbara. As you can see in the video, the smoke from the wildfires becomes more and more prominent the further North we sail. Silly Sea Creatures with Naja and Taj: Bioluminesence. A little buddy comes and visits us at our guest slip in Oxnard. And being 5 years old can be a challange with limited space to move around.
Jordan's dad joins us for a week sailing around Catalina Island. The kids learn about catching their first fish and decide that maybe they like the fish in the ocean better and on a hook. Jordan rock runs in crystal clear blue water at Little Harbor.
Found a catastrophic crack in the backstay Chain plate while polishing the stern. Thank goodness I noticed this while at anchor as we would have likely lost our mast on our downwind run from Avalon to San Diego in a few days! Thanks to Charley Canby here in Avalon for the use of his fabrication shop.
Back on the boat after picking up our 7th crew member (episode 9). Jordan tuns 33. Uncle Avi joins us for a weekend in Catalina. The kids begin virtual school and we anchor 3 times in foggy conditions in the middle of the night.
We take a quick trip back to AZ and pick up our 7th crew member, Boatymcboatface, our 90 lb lab who doesn't know how to swim. Jordan and Shira get a little work done. Boaty gets some swimming classes. And Jordan builds a new boat table.
We are a family of four learning to live on our 39 ft sailboat with two kids, Bug the Chihuahua, Boaty the sinking lab, and Beans the cat. Life as we know it has been turned upside down so we decided to take off and explore via sail! Our living space has decreased in size from 2000 sq ft to 250 sq ft, the kids schools are going remote, and the cat is learning that the chihuahua is not a rat. We definitely have our hands full with this new lifestyle in tight quarters! Our little videos are made for family and friends old and new. We head north towards the Channel Islands and discover our bilge has filled up with water! The kids learn about Navanax Inermis or however you say it... Our family has decided to quit our jobs and rent out our house on the mainland to pursue our dreams of sailing the world and living on a sailboat with our two kids, two dogs, and cat.....during an epidemic. We bring the adventure with us wherever we go!
