In this vlog we set off on our next leg across the Indian Ocean, an 800 nautical mile sail from the Seychelles to Mayotte! The passage is not known to be an easy one as the compression zone near the top of Madagascar is notorious for some gnarly conditions. The strong southeast trade winds hit the landmass of Madagascar, compress to create strong wind, huge seas and the area is nick named the “Jaws of the tiger.” In the end, we have a beautiful passage overall and arrive in Mayotte, which is technically part of France. Mayotte still feels very much like east Africa until you find a bakery! Real Time Update: We made it to Richards Bay, South Africa!!! My arms have gotten bruised and banged up from all our test fits with the cockpit seats - but now it's time to permanently bond them down! We start the episode responding to a popular question of "When are the engines going in?" Then Matt does some trimming to our swim step, which will eventually let us get in to glass that area from the inside. We get a very nice care package from Total Boat - AND THEN - it's time to bond the seats in!! After a week of trimming, adjusting, and sanding; I come away a little bruised, but still in high spirits. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. On mixe le tout et on obtient sans peine, le rap de la bouée ! Ajoutez à ça, les dommages collatéraux : un sac de nœuds, des brulures au corail de feu et une échappée intempestive de gennak. Vous vous retrouvez aisément avec le pack complet, du mouillage nominé aux plus pourris de l’année ! Bénéfice de cette nuit agitée, nous partons plus tôt vers de nouveaux horizons. À partir de cet instant, l’aventure reprend ! Bienvenue en Guadeloupe, aux abords de la partie ouest de cette île papillon, Basse Terre. Malgré son nom, la belle, tout en relief, déploie une végétation épaisse, en haut de laquelle le volcan de la soufrière exhale ses émanations de souffre. Un phare fièrement érigé, un slalome entre des flotteurs de casiers et nous voilà arrivés à Rivière Sens, escale officialisant notre entrée. Hors ces formalités, le bourg étant sans trop de centres d’intérêts, nous poursuivons vers Malendure. Plus exactement, mon petit mari, poursuit seul, moi, je dors ! Protégée, la réserve marine Cousteau, dont les îlets Pigeon font partis, représente 1000 hectares de parc national. Ici, même si le corail n’est pas un des plus beaux, les poissons nagent en paix. Zens, ils sont tellement habitués à être observé sans ne rien risquer, qu’ils s’exposent volontiers à mon vidéaste enchanté. Cette nature est inspirante, enivrante. Elle donne espoir en l’avenir de notre planète. Si seulement l’Homme pouvait inspirer une perspective autant optimiste ! Toutefois, rien n’est perdu ! On veut y croire, comme tous ces rêves qui se réalisent et dieu qu’ils sont nombreux. Une aspiration forte à vivre autre chose, une envie irrésistible d’expériences nouvelles, un projet que vous avez en tête depuis des années, un livre que vous venez d’éditer. Tout est réalisable, il faut juste s’en donner les moyens et faire le premier pas…Une fois lancés, il suffit simplement de se laisser guider et c’est ce que justement nous faisons quand il est question d’aborder un nouveau pays. Pour ça, nous avons différents supports, à commencer par la bible des navigateurs, Destinations et Escales de grande croisière de Jimmy Cornell. Tout y est référencé, enfin du moins les points les plus importants. Et pour des mises à jour, comme à l’heure actuelle avec la pandémie, on peut se référer à Noonsite, son site enrichit par toute une communauté de navigateurs. On capte une scène de vie ! Les gestes séculaires des pêcheurs se perpétuent, demain, ils recommenceront, et nous, nous serons ailleurs. 8,8 milles, tout au nord, nous arrivons au bourg mignonnet de Deshaies en concordance avec un superbe rayon vert. Il est dit que Des Hayes comme son nom s’écrivait à l’époque, était une terre de flibustiers. Blacky mouillerait-il à l’emplacement d’un corsaire ? Qui sait ? Peut-être ! De nos jours, la petite commune semble vivre des jours paisibles. Un petit port de pêche au ralentit, quelques commerces, une régate saintoise et un bien-être paisible. C’est dans cette ambiance que nous vivons notre dernière étape en Guadeloupe. IT'S OFFICIALLY OVER after 5 months sailing from France to Ibiza so we are officially ending our season today. We feel the weather is getting colder and colder by the day, the ocean is not as predictable as in the summer becoming very dangerous at times, so it is time to declare our season officially over ! We spent 3 weaks in Ibiza exploring beautiful places and discovering a side of the island we did not know to exist. We want to came back next season and explore even fruther the northern coast of the island. For now it is time to make the 70 miles crossing to VALENCIA in Spain where we will spend the winter time and unfortunatelly that means, no more sailing this season for us!
