In questo video vi portiamo a St. Kitts & Nevis, Monserrat ed infine nelle isole di Les Saintes, in Guadalupa. Ci scusiamo per l'audio disturbato in alcune parti del video, ma nel 2016 non avevamo ancora il filtro antivento per la GoPro 😊 St. Kitts & Nevis sono due isole-stato poste al di fuori delle usuali rotte caraibiche. Sono due gioiellini visitati da poche barche e i loro vulcani sono parecchio attivi. Spiagge nere, genti accoglienti e mare caldo. Monserrat (o Montserrat) è un'altra piccola isola-stato, anche essa fuori dai normali percorsi turistici dei Caraibi. La capitale, Plymouth, è stata completamente devastata dall'eruzione del vulcano Soufrière Hills nel 1995 ed è tutt'ora ricoperta da ceneri e da quel che resta delle colate piroclastiche. Tutta la metà meridionale dell'isola è ricoperta di cenere ed è inaccessibile. Il vulcano, risvegliatosi improvvisamente appunto nel 1995, viene tenuto costantemente sotto osservazione ed è attualmente molto attivo. Les Saintes è il nome di un gruppo di isole e isolotti che si trovano a Sud di Basse-Terre, nella Guadalupa. Sono un parco marino nazionale, ricche di moltissime specie marine e ideali per lunghe sessioni di snorkeling. Buon divertimento! In this episode, I join as crew to help deliver a Santa Cruz 52 sailboat from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to San Diego California. We motor sail over 1000 nautical miles against wind, waves, and current over the course of 9 days. We begin our adventure at Puerto Vallarta with planned stops at Cabo San Lucas and Bahia Tortugas to top up on diesel and provisions. Oelaba on the island of Rote, Indonesia is a pretty special little village. The men in general are away for 10-11 months of the year. They have a very long history of fishing the waters around Ashmoore reef and although this area is nowadays part of Australia the men from this village still have the right to fish there so long as they do it in a traditional way. This means no engines, electronic navigation etc. They sail their handmade boats the 300km across the ocean and stay down there fishing for around 6 months, totally isolated. Thier boats are called "widow-makers" with good reason as many never come home again. At the end of the fishing season they sail home then install thier engines and head off on a 1000km trip to Sulawesi to transport timber back to Rote. We had a really interesting day visiting this unique village. Enjoi. Simple, quick, and with easy to find ingredients as we sail through the Caribbean. Steph shows how she makes dinner quickly and efficiently while minimizing the amount of dishes, utensils and propane being used. Pan Fried Chicken - chicken breast - Italian bread crumbs - salt and pepper, paprika, granulated garlic, cayenne pepper, thyme, Old Bay seasoning all to taste - mayonnaise (enough for a thin coat on the chicken breast) - extra virgin olive oil (enough to cover the pan and area of the chicken breast) Carrots - peeled and sliced carrots - butter, brown sugar and cinnamon all to taste Poutine - frozen fries (bake as per package instructions or until crispy and golden brown) - gravy packet and water (follow directions on the packet or until desired consistency and saltiness) - shredded cheese (as much as you want!) We're loving our little meander down the coast of Florida with our crew David and Sarah. We're packing up at St Augustine and heading ever southwards, this time ending up at West Palm Beach. We're taking it easy with some smooth sailing and good weather, which is really welcome. It means that we can just get into the rhythm of sailing and family life on board. And being ready means we can eventually cross over to the Bahamas with a bit more confidence. In the meantime we deal with deceptive optical illusions of lighthouses and we make sure we can be seen at night, which, from our experience, is important. We explore one of sailing’s most sacred stops and leave our mark! In this episode we make it to 'the other side of the world' and finally get to see the boat for the first time. We begin the long and drawn out process of making the boat our own. We need to get insurance sorted, pay the final amount and get the vessel Australian registered. All the paperwork hoops taking far longer than we had anticipated and we end up bouncing around condos and casitas until we close on the vessel and can move aboard. It was a very frustrating time. We had to be patient and pass the time in a positive way all the while knowing there was a handful of boat projects we would rather be tackling. More on those in the next episode.
