The announcement that the first Preliminary Regatta on the Road to Naples 2027 for the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup will be in Cagliari, Sardinia, presents a unique challenge for the sailors. With the dates set for the 21-24 May 2026 during what is traditionally a transitional time for the region weather-wise, means that all of the teams will be eyeing the phenomena of both the Mistral and Scirocco winds that can produce interesting and challenging conditions on the Bay of Angels. Quarken has been on my radar for a while, mainly because of how they approach design and usability. The 35GT blends a clean, modern look with a hull that’s clearly built for real conditions, offering a solid mix of performance, efficiency, and usable deck space. THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS Mention code DBL for discounts on Marine Mold Construction https://ms-marine.eu/ When the chance came up to spend time testing the Quarken 35GT, I wanted to focus on how it actually feels on the water. With a strong outboard setup and a well-balanced layout, this was a good opportunity to see how the boat performs beyond specs and renderings. The team behind the brand are clearly thinking long-term. After seeing what’s coming next and what’s still on the drawing board, it’s obvious Quarken is positioning itself as a serious option in this segment. If you’re comparing boats from established American brands or looking at European alternatives, this is one worth putting side by side. For the size and price point, the 35GT makes a strong case.

Episode 24 We’ve landed in Indonesia and kicked off our adventure with a couple of weeks exploring this incredible part of the world 🌏✨ Our journey starts in Bali, where we hire a scooter and jump straight into the reality of Bali traffic. What should be a simple 23 km ride to Uluwatu Beach turns into a 1.5-hour mission, navigating busy roads, scooters everywhere, and a whole lot of chaos 😅 After soaking up the cliffs and coastline of Uluwatu, we head back and fly to Lombok to begin the next chapter of our Indonesian adventure — new island, new experiences, and plenty more to come. Come along for the highs and lows of life at sea – the joy of community, the challenge of sailing, and all the fun we get up too !!! Tarantella represents the very beginning of Nautor Swan’s story: the shipyard’s first yacht, a 36-foot Sparkman & Stephens.A yacht that still draws a subtle, meaningful line to today’s Swan 128, designed by German Frers. That connection is not about dimensions, but about DNA. The Swan 128 took shape through a journey guided by an owner with deep sailing roots — a Maxi sailor, highly demanding, deeply focused on performance under sail, and actively involved in racing. Coming from a motor-yacht background, his vision naturally combined comfort with true sailing efficiency. A balance that feels instinctive, because it has always been part of Nautor Swan’s identity. From Tarantella to the Swan 128, the philosophy remains unchanged:performance, comfort, and an uncompromising passion for sailing — carried forward, generation after generation. @antoniovettese @nautorswan_official . #Swan128 #NautorSwan #MaxiYacht #LuxurySailing #SailingExcellence

We’re inspecting the running rigging on our steel sailboat Alaskan Gypsy, and what we found is honestly sketchy. Some of this line is 15–20 years old, heavily worn, UV damaged, mildewed, and absolutely not something I want to trust while hanging 60+ feet above a steel deck. Before replacing our radar and climbing the mast, we needed to take a hard look at what’s actually holding us up. In this video: • How to inspect old sailboat rigging • Identifying dangerous wear in double-braid line • Why aging lines fail (UV, chafe, mildew) • What sizes we need to replace (½” and ⅜”) • Budget-friendly ideas for sourcing replacement rigging • Real-world Alaska conditions that accelerate wear This is part of our ongoing sailboat refit as we work toward making Alaskan Gypsy a fully functional, safe sailing vessel again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 👇👇👇👇👇 www.patreon.com/SunshineExpress
Sailing vessel Tapatya This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. When you’re working far from your shop, battery systems matter more than brand loyalty. I’m restoring a steel boat in Alaska, and after traveling 1,000 miles with a limited tool kit, I made a mistake: I brought the tool… but not the right battery. That problem led me to test something I honestly didn’t think would work - a universal power tool battery that claims to run both Milwaukee and Makita tools (adapters available for many other brands too - DeWalt, Craftsmen, Black & Decker, Ryobi, Worx, Bosch, Porter Cable . . ). In this video, I put the CEENR / PD Nation universal 18V battery through some tests: • Milwaukee and Makita tools • grinders, sanders, drills, impacts, routers, lights, and a vacuum • charging phones via USB • working around saltwater, cold, and remote conditions This isn’t a lab test or a spec-sheet review. It’s what happens when you actually rely on one battery to keep your tools running when replacements aren’t readily available. I’ll show what works, what doesn’t, and why I’m impressed with this system. If you work off-grid, on boats, in shipyards, or just hate owning five different battery systems - this one’s worth a look. Thanks for watching, – Scott I signed up as an affiliate with Ceenr so if you think you want some for yourself click this link and I'll get a few percentage points of your order. The only reason we've been able to get this far is from the support we've received from strangers (now friends) and all of the positivity online...but mostly because we're in a loving relationship - doing this together. However, this project has proven to be one of the biggest challenges for our relationship, with Josh often chipping away alone, and Phoebe in the saloon above editing the videos. With 8 days remaining until splash day, we're (tiredly) ticking off some of the last remaining jobs on the engines...together! From winning nine world titles to heading deep into the Southern Ocean aboard a 40 footer, from taking an F50 foiling cat fully airborne to the next generation of round the world racing for everyone, this week we take a look at four very different corners of the sport, starting with Ian Williams’ incredible ninth win in the World Match Racing Tour. How did the defining day play out? Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the scale the fleet of Class 40’s competing in the Globe 40 race are heading to the most remote point at sea where the International Space Station provides the closest access to other humans. We take a quick look at SailGP’s opening event where the local ‘doctor’ has been causing a few breakages, injuries and hairy moments, before turning our attention to the new 72 footer that you could be racing around the world in 2027. Could this be your new ride? CHAPTERS & LINKS 00:29 World Match Racing Tour 04:30 Globe 40 race 06:08 SailGP in Perth 07:00 New Clipper Yacht
In this video Harken Engineers and two sailors on the British sailing team discuss the new system. This year, the entirely new Harken ILCA vang system makes its debut. All three components are upgrades from our existing system that remains the ILCA/Laser Class standard after more than 20 years. The upper block is now a 25mm Fly Block with stainless balls and a unique pin shaped and angled to remain in place even under zero tension. The middle double block is in fact a Zircon Fiddle Block with a unique twist (we call it the 'twiddle' in Pewaukee). The lower unit is also distinctive. Every sheave is larger in diameter for more power and wider for less friction, so the unit will better enable today's increased vang loads. -- Visit Harken 👉 https://bit.ly/Harken_

In our previous video, we talked about all the people we met who were choosing to bypass Portugal because of the threat of orcas. Maybe we were naive, or maybe we’d romanticised it too much — but looking back, we’re not sure it was worth the risk…
