Being in Trinidad right now, there is an element of watching the news and keeping abreast of geopolitical events, due to the tension between the United States, Venezuela and Trinidad. From up our mast we can see Venezuela, so it's much closer than many around the world may realise. After touching on our experiences and through being here, it's back to boat work, continuing with the construction of our custom carbon fiber yacht tables! Now that they've been spray gel coated it's time to start sanding (YAAAAAAAY.....). As always with boat life, things don't go 100% smoothly, but in the grand scheme of things it's just another step in our catamaran repair and upgrade journey. 👉 SUPPORT THE STORY TELLING ⛵ Gain access to our member only area: https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/join-in 😎 Tip jar: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Canon R50 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Back up is a Canon 200d. Action scenes and small blogging is done with an Insta 360 Ace2. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also use an Insta 360 and have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over several days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have limited communications with the outside World. Join us in this incredible episode as we set sail through the stunning waters of Moreton Bay and experience a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with whales up close from our liveaboard sailboat. As full-time liveaboard sailors preparing to sail around the world, moments like these remind us exactly why we chose this lifestyle. Whether you're passionate about sailing adventures, fascinated by marine life, or dreaming of travelling the world by sailboat, this episode delivers all the magic of ocean life in one unforgettable day on the water. In today’s sailing vlog, we take our cruising sailboat out into the beautiful blue of Queensland’s Moreton Bay for what we thought would be a casual day sail—until a pod of whales decided to join us. Watch as we navigate under full sail, maintain safe distances, and use proper seamanship while witnessing these incredible giants glide through the water. For beginner sailors and sailboat owners, this episode also offers valuable insights into real-world sailing conditions, wildlife awareness, and what it’s like to handle a liveaboard vessel when the unexpected happens. Our channel is all about the liveaboard sailing lifestyle, exploring the world, and sharing the highs, lows, challenges, and pure joy of life afloat. If you’re curious about offshore cruising, ocean passages, marina life, anchoring techniques, or simply what it’s like to live on a sailboat full-time, you’re in the right place. We document every step of our journey as we prepare for our circumnavigation—one bay, one island, and one adventure at a time. This Moreton Bay sailing episode is packed with real sailing footage, close-up whale activity, and stunning views that highlight why so many people fall in love with the idea of travelling the world by sailboat. If you love sailing videos, yacht life content, cruising vlogs, whale encounters, marine wildlife, or dream of starting your own liveaboard journey, this video is for you. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and follow along as we continue our journey toward becoming full-time world-cruising sailors. From day sails and boat projects to offshore passages and island exploring, we’re excited to take you with us on every mile. Thanks for watching and welcome aboard! It's been two years since our first sail in @SailingAstridTheWombat actually that means it's been a year and a half since our first sail ever. That's right a year ago we bought this Beneteau Oceanis 430 and pulled the sail up for the first time ever when we brought her home. A sail that stretched 700 nautical miles from Townsville in Far North Queensland Australia to Moreton Bay in Brisbane Queensland. We are now preparing to move onboard and to sail around the world. Join us to see the challenges as we continue to learn to sail, prepare our boat and make changes so our boat feels like a home. We are moving onboard in just a few weeks so our sailing dream is getting closer and closer. Today is a big moment for the Spirit Formula 40 Trimaran project. After three years on the hard at Portland Yacht Services, Spirit is finally back in the water — and moving under her own power again. In this video, I take you step-by-step from the yard, off the dock, out through the Casco Bay Bridge, and into Fore Points Marina. It’s the first time Spirit has slipped her lines in years, and clearing that bridge means we now have a long, open runway ahead of us. Next stop: Boston. In this episode, we face the hard truth of just how challenging sailing in Brazil can be! Follow us as we head further north towards Recife, making a pit stop at Porto de Suape for a much-needed break. But what was supposed to be a quick rest turns into a serious challenge when Excelsior runs aground. Her portside keel gets lodged on a massive, uncharted coffee rock within the channel. As if that wasn’t enough, our friends on TAO end up stuck in the mud too! Now, we’re stuck waiting for the tide to shift and get us free. Will we make it out unscathed and still reach Recife, or will this turn out to be a bigger setback than we planned for? Tune in to find out! Help Us Grow!

Sailing from Tasmania to New Zealand – 1200 miles across the Roaring Forties. Three weeks of storms, calms, lightning, seasickness, technical failures and unforgettable moments with albatrosses and dolphins. The toughest but most beautiful passage of the last five years.

BLACK FRIDAY BOOK DEAL: FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING: https://bethecaptain.com After 90,000 ocean miles, four Pacific crossings, losing a forestay, a knockdown, and a catamaran literally splitting in half… I’ve realized something nobody talks about: Most of the danger offshore doesn’t come from storms or gear. It comes from the mindset mistakes that every sailor makes without realizing it. Today we’re breaking down the 6 hidden fears that quietly sabotage your sailing, wreck your judgment, and stall your cruising dreams before you ever leave the dock. This video is NOT about gear, checklists, or fancy upgrades. This is the stuff that actually matters when everything is going sideways offshore and everyone is looking at YOU. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN THIS VIDEO • The six fears that kill more cruising dreams than money or storms • Why you rush when things go wrong (and how to stop it instantly) • The “fight or flight” trap every sailor falls into offshore • Why gear isn’t seamanship — and what actually is • How fatigue rewires your brain and destroys your judgment • My “Law of Compounding Chaos” (L&A January Issue) If you’ve ever wondered why some sailors sail offshore while others stay tied to the dock, these 6 mindset shifts are the difference. GET THE BOOK. BE THE CAPTAIN. My #1 goal with this channel is to help you become the calm, confident, capable captain your crew trusts when it matters most. That’s why I wrote Be The Captain: a field manual for real-world offshore judgment and leadership. Tässä tarinassa jatkamme matkaa Gräddöstä kosteassa kelissä, koska haluamme pitää kiinni tavoitteestamme ehtiä Kööpenhaminaan ajoissa. Purjehdus vie meidät Merikarhujen tukikohtaan Särsöön – mutta perillä odottaa yllätys: satama on aivan täynnä eikä sinne mahdu edes väkisin. Onneksi. Koska juuri sen ansiosta löydämme läheltä unohdetun vaihtoehdon, joka osoittautuu koko reissun todelliseksi helmeksi. Hyppää mukaan tähän siivuun matkaa, jossa huonolta näyttänyt tilanne kääntyy lopulta täydeksi voitoksi.
