I have been slowly working on my new Multi-hull Proa "Anole". The rig is a design I tried in one of my previous videos. After extensive testing of both remote controlled and free sailing models, I get to work on the real boat. Check out the latest of this new sailing vessel and see if it works as good as I think it will.

In this episode, we continue our End of 2022 Adventure. Prior to departing for Avalon, we discovered the windlass motor was failing. We cancelled our original plans to sail to the northern Channel Islands (including San Miguel Island). Our alternative plan is to sail to Ensenada, Mexico. We have a Small Craft Advisory calling for 15 to 25 knot winds and 8-10 foot waves. All day Wednesday and extending into Thursday morning before tapering off to light winds. We choose to take a route near San Clemente Island, further offshore to keep us along the wind bands for better sailing. Weather conditions remain favorable and we have an excellent sail to Ensenada.

After spending three weeks in Greece, we sailed to the east side of Sicily. We're getting more comfortable with sailing, but that doesn't mean that sailing is always comfortable. We had some really rough seas on the last leg of our trip, and it was pretty miserable for everyone on board. Poor Ruby got it the worst. We spent a few days in Messina, Sicily. Messina is directly across from the toe of the boot in Italy. We were heading through the Strait of Messina on our way to Stromboli Island when we came across a huge pod of dolphins! The kids had the time of their lives swimming and sea-bobbing with the dolphins. It's such a blessing to share these experiences with my family. Stromboli has one of four active volcanos in Italy. We were told that if you go to there at night, you can actually see the lava blasting out! We were not disappointed. Stromboli feels like classic Italy. The setting and food were terrific, and we had an awesome night watching the volcano erupt. Thanks for watching this week. We're heading to the west side of Sicily next. I hope you'll join us!

AdvantEDGE, skippered by Andrew Jones from the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club, was second across the line and Damien King’s MRV was third. Michael Spies, the skipper of Maritimo 11, accepted the prestigious Heemskerk Perpetual Trophy today which is awarded to first place overall on corrected time on AMS, the handicap category which had the largest number of entrants in this year’s race.

This episode opens in the gorgeous Honeymoon Cay in the Sea of Cortez Mexico where Bill and Grace have just recently reunited after a 4 day separation. Grace had jumped aboard Delos to help out when our friend Kazza was sick. Now she's back, and better, so it's time to celebrate because it's her birthday and with 3 buddy boats here that means only one thing . . . a raft up! We try a couple of different maneuvers before the boats are snug and secure and then we waste no time getting into party mode. We use all of our floating toys and enjoy the afternoon hanging out together. Later Brian grills some juicy burgers and we enjoy cake. As the sun sets we jump off the boats and cool off in the beautiful clear water here. This anchorage is the prettiest we've seen so far!!! The next morning is one rude awakening as a giant storm has rolled in over night. It's come in earlier and stronger than forecasted and the heavy winds actually rip one of our solar panels right off of our bimini top!! We quickly separate the boats and pick up our stern anchor which is dug in really deep. Its a rainy morning but finally the weather settles overnight and the next morning we are off, this time attempting to outrun a hurricane that has formed and is moving in. Our strategy is to run North to try and get above the hurricane box where we are ensured. Unfortunately we encounter some gnarly conditions and thunder and lightening plague us all night. We are making very little progress so we change directions to escape choppy seas and wind on the nose. At the exact same time we get a low oil engine alarm and then have to tack our way towards the safety of an island without the help of the engine. We decide to rest for a few hours and wait for the wind to shift but first we address the engine which ends up - thankfully - just needing oil. We test it before heading out a few hours later and see the latest models show a shift in the hurricanes path. Transat Cap Vert / Martinique - J1, 2 et 3. AIS, énergie et nav de nuit. On y est. Parti le 18 septembre du Cap d'Agde, nous sommes arrivés à notre point de départ : Mindelo. Jusque-là, l'idée centrale était d'avancer, d'avancer pour arriver à Mindelo à temps, pour traverser l'Atlantique avec la bonne fenêtre météo. Même si cette escale, Mindelo, a été un temps touristique, puis un temps de préparation technique, l'idée de la traversée était toujours présente. Un grand saut dans l'océan avec un point de non retour équivalent à 10% de la durée totale de la traversée. 1,7 jours, on dira 2 jours.
