Here's a short video of the Broadblue Rapier 550 catamaran, shot on a trip from Chichester Harbour to Lymington. Tide against all the way, but we had 15 knots of breeze and an average speed of 8 knots. Lovely weather and easy to handle with just two aboard, although we had three on this trip. Great sail in the sunshine.

We wanted to do ocean passage on the Rapier 550 'Blue Wonder" catamaran so we decided to join in with the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) in November 2021. We left from Gran Canaria and sailed direct to St Lucia. We loved the trip and it gave us some useful insights into the Rapier's speed vs comfort. Meet Mark Jarvis, Design and Production Director of Broadblue Catamarans. Watch as Mark speaks about his multihull and catamaran history. Mark has test sailed upwards of 1,000 multihulls so knows a thing or two about what works and, more importantly, what doesn't work when it comes to designing and building a catamaran that people love to sail, cruise and live-aboard. Mark has been an avid sailor from a very young age and was asked to provide consultancy service to Broadblue with a specific brief to focus on their 38' catamaran. From here, the Broadblue 385 was born and has been hugely successful ever since. This involvement developed further and, in 2013, Mark was invited to join the Broadblue Board of Directors. Mark Jarvis is passionate about catamaran design. As a life-long sailor, Mark has sailed on most, if not all, multihull brands in his sailing career. At Boat Shows particularly, he has many discussions with monohull or other non-catamaran/multihull sailors who have heard some untruths around multihull sailing. In this video, Mark addresses those top myths that he is asked about time after time. Myths debunked in this video: Catamarans are not ideal for offshore passages A catamaran is not safe or could capsize It's difficult to get multihulls to sail upwind Multihulls are hard to berth The shape of a multihull causes a lot of slamming into the water Multihulls are expensive to berth Find out more about our catamarans and our business on our other channels: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/broadbluecats/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/broadblue_catamarans/ Website: https://www.broadblue.com/ Read more about us here: Broadblue is a UK company based at Thornham Marina, Emsworth. In this video, Mark Jarvis, the Design and Production Director of Broadblue Catamarans, gives his Top 7 advantages of buying a multihull or catamarans, over other types of vessel. Remember to hit SUBSCRIBE and click the notification bell so you don't miss any of our videos Here's the top line summary: Stability at sea and at anchor. Multihulls will not roll or heel over. Safety at sea; a multihull has compartments with the boat (a legal requirement) that brings buoyancy. Access to shallow harbours and creeks; less draft than a monohull, for example, giving you access to different sailing and cruising areas. Interior space; a multihull by the very definition of the design, has a great deal more storage space and overall interior "living" space than that of a monohull, for example. Speed & Performance; multihulls generally are 20 to 40% faster than a monohull. Residual Value; prices of catamarans hold their value extremely well, even used catamarans. Ease of docking; with 2 engines, the manoeuvrability is greater than for a monohull.
