We serviced the Meissner winches and had our fuel and fuel tank polished. The engine ran well and we thought we were good to go so we headed for points south. Au travers de nos yeux de débutants, la vision de ces loups de mer nous semblait extrapolée, car notre liberté nous l’avions ! Mais aujourd’hui, nous comprenons mieux ! Ce n’est évidemment pas de la liberté en pleine mer qu’il est question, ce dont il est question c’est des interdits de plus en plus nombreux qui régissent les escales et restreignent de plus en plus les navigateurs. Ces défendus obligeant, sous peine d’amande, d’être dans les clous ! Tout cela bien sou-vent plus, par fin économique que par priorité écologique, et c’est en cela que notre liberté en bateau s’amenuise ! Bien entendu, lorsqu’il s’agit de règlementations pour protéger la nature, nous ne pouvons qu’approuver, mais malheureusement cette cause est bien trop souvent un prétexte pour encaisser sans contrepartie. Prenons l’exemple de Marigot à Saint-Martin, le sujet de la sauve-garde de notre environnement est bien le premier indiqué sur les objectifs du port, parfait ! Sauf que, sous couvert de cette thématique, des sommes de plus en plus importantes sont demandées aux plaisanciers sans scrupule de mise en danger des navires. En témoignent, la situation gps d’une grande partie des 80 emplace-ments, complètement inappropriée pour abriter des bateaux et les anneaux de ces bouées carrément inadaptées à l’amarrage ! Puisque nous en sommes à parler mouillage, il est grand temps pour nous, de nous consacrer sérieusement à notre guindeau, la sécurité de Blacky en dépend et par la même, notre sérénité. Notre treuil actuel, bien qu’ayant joué son rôle depuis la naissance de Black Lion, montre des signes de faiblesse, il ne nous inspire plus confiance. Et Saint-Martin, côté français, plus précisément à l’ile marine, est l’endroit idéal pour le changer à prix relativement raisonnable. Pour ce qui est de l’installation, soyons clairs, heu-reusement que mon Tchoupi n’a pas besoin de mes conseils ! L’épontille aurait pu risquer gros ! Lancés dans les travaux, après notre souci sur la barre de direction, très certainement dût à une corrosion galvanique, une inspection minutieuse s’impose sur tous les points pouvant subir le même dommage. Et dans ce cas, ce que nous devons vérifier en priorité, ce sont les fixations qui combi-nent aluminium et inox. Ces deux métaux, considérés comme assez résistants à la corrosion indépendamment l’un de l’autre, peuvent s’ils ne sont pas bien isolés entre eux, engendrer de graves problèmes, comme celui qui s’est produit sur notre bras transversale. Échaudés par cet incident, notre bout dehors n’aura d’autre choix que de débarquer ici, pour être remplacé par son homologue que nous avons pris soin d’isoler de toutes liaisons inox. Pour ce qui est de notre crémaillère manchonnée, elle, rece-vra un soin tout particulier de la part de mon capitaine. Renforcée avec des bandelettes de tissu de verre et recouverte de résine époxy, la réparation a toutes ses chances de tenir dans le temps ! Autre chose qui nous tenait à cœur, changer les dumpers de nos moteurs pour des neufs, que nous n’avions pas à Carriacou et remplacer les boulons de nos Saildrive par des boulons de haute résistance, pour être totalement tranquille sur notre motorisation. Une vraie usine notre Black Lion ! Réparations, rénovation, fabrication de mes sacs en toile de gennak, et maintenant, installation de notre nouvelle antenne Starlink. Nous avons craqué ! Nous nous sommes laissés séduire par SpaceX et ses milliers de satellites placés en orbite terrestre basse.

We head into the @royalyachtclubofvictoria4881 Royal Yacht Club of Victoria and head off to explore Melbourne by car. We visit Geelong & Queenscliff to the west, and Arthurs Seat, Fort Nepean and the old Quarantine Station to the east. After a quick sail around Port Phillip Bay, we head back in under the West Gate Bridge staying at Docklands Marina in the heart of Melbourne to celebrate Christmas and sit right under the spectacular New Year’s Fireworks show. WHO ARE WE? We’re Chris and Jo and we have been living on our Seawind 1260 since January 2019. In our first year we bring our yacht down the east coast of Australia and sail it out to New Caledonia. After cruising further north up the east coast of Australia in 2020, we decide to circumnavigate Australia during 2021 and 2022. We had previously owned fishing and water skiing boats, but after a couple years crewing in South Australia we decided to jump right in and make a sea change. The official end of the 2022 season concludes with the haul out of the boat. This year's haul out was a little earlier than normal, coming in the middle of September. Our haul out doesn't normally come until mid-October. Travel plans for October this year forced the early haul out. 2022 was a marvelous season. A Shuck’n Good Time! It has been a dream of our to get the opportunity to go to the Annapolis boat show in the Chesapeake. Josh and I have worked boat shows for years in our old industries and it was nice to finally be apart of the crowd and just take it all in. The show was amazing. To be able to walk on all of these boats that we have just seen online was a bit overwhelming. Then to top it off with being apart of the International Cruiser Awards was the icing on the cake. YouTube has a booth at the boat show where you can have a meet and greet with some of the popular channels. But this year the Young Cruiser Association teamed up with the International Cruiser Awards to host an event and celebrate all of the amazing things that this creator sailing community has done in the past year. It was hosted by Riley and Alana from La Vagabond and there were many different categories that each channel could be entered into. Crazy enough we were nominated in the category of the best emerging YouTube channel, and I’m happy to say we didn’t do to bad. SV Spear It Animal won in our category and for very good reason, you should check them out. It was so nice to be in a venue with all that creativity. So many different types of people and channels all together with one major love…Sailing! You would think that nothing could top this adventure until we made it back to Urbanna for the 65th annual Oyster Fest. This town of approximately 500 turn into as many as 200,000 in a weekend. Yes you read that right. The entire town shuts down and people come from all over to celebrate the oyster. We were told by everyone, and I mean everyone, that we had to stay in Urbanna till Oyster Festival. We now understand why. It was an overload of activity. The town was buzzing with food venders, art and crafts (oyster jewelry), beer and wine gardens, live music, carnival rides, 2 separate parades (town and Fire truck), shucking contests, and the list goes on and on. What an amazing thing to be apart of. Thank you to Port Urbanna Boatworks for making us feel like family while we were there. Jimmy and Hanna put on a 3 day customer appreciation and family get together that was bigger than anything we have have seen. They have such big hearts and we feel so lucky to be apart of their fold. Wir, Emely und Tjark, haben uns den Traum vom eigenen Segelboot erfüllt, eine Maxi 84, relativ spontan und ohne das ganz große Geld. Wir nehmen dich mit auf unsere Reise von blutigen Anfängern zu hoffentlich passablen Seglern. Getauft wurde sie auf den stolzen Namen Meera. Nach dem ersten Winterlager mit der Überarbeitung des Unterwasserschiffs, sind wir 2022 in unsere erste Segelsaison gestartet. Also kommt mit auf unsere Reise die Welt zu erkunden, für den Anfang erstmal die Ostsee. Da wir noch echte Rookies sind, müssen wir erstmal lernen zu Segeln und was es heißt abhängig von der Natur zu sein. Bevor es in die weite Welt hinaus geht, liegt noch ein Berg an Arbeit vor uns. We are about to cross an ocean, and we will be crossing it with a carrot plugging an open thru hull in our sailboat. There’s no way around the gulf of Carpentaria in our circumnavigation of Australia; it’s the large and shallow sea that is separating us from Australia's Northern Territory. This 340 nautical mile crossing will be the largest offshore sail we've undergone in the three years we've been cruising on Nakama. She may be small, but she packs a punch.
