Light winds made for constant sail changes on our Atlantic crossing — until squalls rolled in and it was all hands on deck. From spinnaker jibes to battling a stubborn sock, we worked hard to keep moving, with Brodie proving his strength on the heavy lifts. Along the way, we hauled in a barracouta on the handline (which Chui was quick to inspect, licking his lips) and spotted countless floating shortfin squid — a sobering sign of the bycatch left behind by enormous Chinese fishing fleets. Between baking scones during rainy mornings, hanging laundry under the sun, chasing rainbows after cleansing downpours, and savoring golden sunsets on the blue Atlantic, this passage had it all: ⛵ Spinnaker sailing & halyard checks 🌦 Sudden squalls & dramatic weather changes 🎣 Barracouta catch & sobering wildlife encounters ☀ Peaceful moments on the open ocean 🥐 Rainy-day baking aboard If you dream of blue-water voyages, want a taste of life at sea, or love real sailing adventures, this episode takes you right on deck with us. ⛵ Come sail with us on a wild adventure along Namibia's legendary Skeleton Coast! In this episode, we explore the rugged port town of Lüderitz, where we’re warmly welcomed by the local community and invited to take part in the lively LüKa Karneval celebrations. We then head inland to visit the hauntingly beautiful ghost town of Kolmanskop and encounter the legendary wild desert horses of Garub. From there, we sail north along the dramatic Skeleton Coast, seeking shelter in the remote and stunning Sandwich Harbour, where the desert meets the sea in spectacular fashion and we’re surrounded by incredible local wildlife. As the journey continues, we navigate through thick fog and arrive in Walvis Bay to provision and prepare for our upcoming Atlantic crossing. But before leaving Namibia, we go in search of one final desert adventure. Though flooded roads and a lack of 4x4 rentals force us to skip Sossusvlei, we discover a breathtaking alternative — the granite peaks of Spitzkoppe. 💛 A heartfelt thank you to the kind and welcoming Namibians who made this journey truly unforgettable. 📸 Photo credit to @BOKEH for the LüKa Karneval shots featured in this video. 🧭 Sailing | Namibia Travel | Ghost Towns | Wildlife | Desert Adventures | Overlanding | Atlantic Crossing Prep 👉 Like, comment, and subscribe to follow our sailing life and off-grid adventures around the world! #SkeletonCoast #NamibiaSailing #Kolmanskop #Luderitz #SandwichHarbour #WalvisBay #Spitzkoppe #WildHorses #AtlanticCrossing #SailingVlog #TravelAfrica #LukaKarneval Timestamps: 00:00 – Intro 00:45 – Sailing into Lüderitz 03:30 – Ghost towns & wild horses 07:15 – Karneval in Walvis Bay 11:00 – Seals at Sandwich Harbour 14:20 – Road trip to Spitzkoppe 18:40 – Reflections & local thanks

Join us aboard Sailing Excelsior as we set off from East London, heading south along South Africa’s dramatic and unpredictable coastline. What begins as a dream passage—calm seas, spinnaker sailing, and unforgettable encounters with sharks and one of the largest dolphin pods we've ever seen—soon becomes a test of seamanship. Brendan braves an icy dive to scrape barnacles from the hull before we settle into an overnight spinnaker run. But things take a turn on day two when an un-forecast cut-off low pressure system sweeps in, bringing 30+ knot winds and building seas. Forced to prioritize safety, we make the tough call to divert to Port Elizabeth. Will we make it into port safely? Note: Apologies for glitchy transitions and poor voiceover quality. Due to the loss of our MacBook we had to use a new editing program that isn't up to scratch. We'll be exploring other editing software options soon. But in the meantime, thanks for bearing with us while we navigate the tech setbacks and keep the episodes coming — however rough they may be!
