Our first overnight passage on our new Catamaran, Trade Runner. Pittwater south to Eden, NSW is about 240 nautical miles and we picked a pretty mellow wind for this one. There is a good south running current about 15 miles offshore so we sailed out there and stayed in it all the way south. A really smooth sail with some exciting fishing and both of us arrived at our destination feeling pretty good without the "hangover" that we normally get from a passage like this. Sailing from the west towards the east in the Caribbean is always an interesting exercise, Especially after weeks of strong winds. The shallow waters of Bocas del Toro make it sometimes quite a challenge to leave as the waves can be pretty nasty. Again BE FREE is flying over the Caribbean waves on the last sail from Bocas to Shelter Bay marina in Colon. We are on a schedule as Gee has a flight to catch going back home to Europe. Entering the breaker walls of Colon surfing 14 knots into the bay and entrance to the Shelter Bay Marina. This time it was also quite a challenge docking stern to with 27 knots of wind on our side. Dinghy cruising Adventure to Broughton Island sailing surfing and a capsize.

This episode opens with Bill cleaning the rudder stuffing box with a wire brush in an attempt to remove years of corrosion in preparation for new packing material. Next, Bill switches gears back to our new arch project and continues to remove items from the stern of the boat to prepare for the new system to be built. He is working on dismantling the wind generator which having been up for five years and 25,000 miles is very stuck. With the help of Big D the three inch diameter, 13 foot high pole is lowered and removed and the blades are carefully removed from the generator. Next Bill works on a project that has been going on in the background continuously since the refit of Calico Skies began - That is the remediation of the blisters on her hull. Bill and his friend Big D first cut the fiberglass to shape for all blisters requiring only one layer of glass and similar in shape. Next the epoxy is mixed and the glass is laid on the blisters. Later, the process is repeated for deeper and irregularly shaped blisters, some requiring specialized templates. After the glass is laid it is left to set for a couple of days. Bill returns after some time to scuff away the 'blush' resulting from the curing of the fiberglass in preparation for sanding. He also checks on progress with the arch which is with the welder and beginning to be bent. After some more days of sanding and a triumph for Grace when she successfully flags down the water truck Bill and Grace leave Mexico and head for the US. A quick trip to NY to empty an old storage unit follow, plus a visit with family and later friends before the duo finally arrives back to AZ to pick up the new rudder for Calico. It was shipped to a Patron's commercial address, an aviation engine repair shop. We are treated to a quick tour before taking our new rudder back to Mexico. Back at the boat yard the most important first step begins: Dry Fitting the new rudder. It does not immediately seem to fit so Bill sands the new rudder bushing to help with the fit. Next a team works on angling the rudder shaft perfectly so that it can slide up into the shaft. The new shaft must fit in precisely because the old rudder bushing was worn but now there is no give. In questo video parliamo di coordinate geografiche! La prima cosa da considerare è che la terra non è rotonda bensì è un sasso deforme che prende il nome di Geoide: è soltanto associata al concetto di sfera perfetto perché altrimenti sarebbe stato impossibile trovare su di essa un dei sistemi di riferimento efficaci. Cosa intendiamo per sfera perfetta? Vuol dire che praticamente se la tagliamo passando per il centro otteniamo un cerchio massimo di 40.000 km, questo in qualsiasi direzione effettuiamo il taglio. Quindi 40.000 km è la sezione massima ottenibile sulla sfera terrestre. Partendo da questo presupposto cerchiamo di comprendere in che modo è stato realizzato il reticolo geografico. La prima cosa che dobbiamo fare è andare ad identificare sulla sfera terrestre dei riferimenti perché essendo una sfera perfetta in realtà non ha nessun tipo di riferimento. La Terra ruota su se stessa ed ha una velocità periferica massima di 1668 chilometri orari, questa velocità decresce allontanandoci da quest'area di massima velocità, fino ad arrivare a due punti che sono gli unici due Punti Fermi della sfera terrestre i nostri Poli. Si immagina poi che i due poli siano attraversati da un asse denominata asse di rotazione terrestre: allora i due poli con l'asse di rotazione terrestre rappresentano il punto di partenza per la realizzazione del reticolo geografico. Il primo taglio il primo taglio passerà per il centro e sarà perpendicolare all'asse di rotazione terrestre. Il circolo massimo ottenuto prende il nome di Equatore. Dall'Equatore andiamo poi a tagliare parallelamente andando a trovare tanti cerchi minori quindi sempre più piccoli mano mano che ci allontaniamo dall'Equatore. Per creare un reticolo geografico dovremmo anche tagliarla verticalmente. Quindi che cosa facciamo? Prendiamo altri piani e facciamo intersecare la sfera passando per i poli in questo caso otteniamo quindi delle sezioni verticali. Le sezioni ottenuto saranno tutti i circoli massimi. In questo caso però non li consideriamo circoli massimi bensì semicircoli massima. Una metà è viene denominata Meridiano l'altra metà viene considerata antimeridiana. Quand'è che chiamiamo un semicerchio Meridiano E quando lo chiamiamo antimeridiano in realtà dipende esclusivamente da dove si trova l'osservatore.

Nach einer Woche auf dem Atlantik feiern wir Bergfest. Mittlerweile haben wir uns an die Wellen gewöhnt und es ist auch wärmer geworden. Endlich! Allerdings bilden sich jetzt immer Squalls, dunkle Wolkenberge mit viel Wind und noch mehr Regen. Zumindest meistens. Manchmal saugen die Squalls auch den Wind auf und es ist plötzlich Flaute. Besonders bei Nacht eine unheimliche Begegnung der dritten Art, da man die Biester nicht kommen sieht. Immerhin segeln wir tagsüber jetzt meistens mit dem Parasailor - und kommen unserem Ziel immer näher. Nach Tagen ohne auch nur ein Schiff auf dem AIS zu sehen, taucht plötzlich eine Yacht direkt hinter uns aus dem Nichts auf. Der Name lässt auf einen Franzosen schließen. Zwei Boote, eine Richtung, das heißt: Regatta!

Carénage d'Oxten 2 ans après. Bilan très positif de l'antifouling Orange Marine. Nous n'avons pas d'affiliation avec Orange Marine , ce n'est pas un placement de produit. Un passe-coque de changé. Nouvel évier. Bateau sortie de l'eau le Vendredi à 10H et remis à l'eau le Samedi à 11H merci aux personnes du chantier pour leur disponibilités. Nous avons eu la chance que le port accepte de nous faire un passage du pont de l'Eure à 14H . Le bateau glisse, c'est impressionnant la différence. Nous sommes prêts pour la saison.
