We had to change our mooring lines here in Ponta Delgada. The 'proper' ones that we usually use just made sooo much noise! After talking to a local, we were directed to the following shop: Honorato Moreira & Monteiro, Lda., Estr. Regional da Ribeira Grande 68A, 9500-296 Ponta Delgada Phone: 296 385 047 Walking from the direction of the marina, the shop is just past the prison on the same side of the road. We bought several lengths of 18mm line. The rope is actually sold by weight (?) but you ask for the length you want. They measure the rope and then weigh it. It worked out around 1 euro per metre. They only spoke Portuguese, so google translate is your friend here. They were really helpful and have a wide range of boating/fishing accessories. The polypropylene(?) mooring lines are so much quieter, and have good elasticity. The boat is much more pleasant to live on 😁 We also have mooring compensators. Things can be pretty wild here sometimes ⛵💨🌊 If you love the sailing life, please SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, and COMMENT as it really helps the channel and we love to hear from you😁😁 *Thank You to all of you who support us in your different ways* ❤️ ✅ *INSTAGRAM* https://www.instagram.com/sailingnovavita/ ✅ *FACEBOOK* https://www.facebook.com/SailingNovaVita #sailing #yachting #boatlife #adventure

After four unforgettable nights in Bora Bora, it was finally time to set sail. Saying goodbye to one of the most beautiful places on earth is never easy, but the adventure wasn’t over yet. We enjoyed some great sailing at first, until the wind came right on the nose and reminded us that this is still real ocean sailing. We pushed on to Taha’a, stopped for lunch at a floating restaurant, then moved the boat out to the reef. The snorkeling at the Coral Garden was incredible, followed by an amazing dinner at a truly next-level resort. A perfect mix of challenge, beauty, and those moments that make sailing French Polynesia so special. This channel is funded by viewers like you. ► On the second-hand market for boats under 40 feet, the Lagoon 380 has become the must-have. Admittedly, this bestseller, which saw more than 900 examples built, has aged pretty well and offers remarkable comfort for its size... but for budgets just over €100,000, there are other models to consider, such as the Athena 38 by Fountaine Pajot, which offers two advantages: it is more affordable than the Lagoon and is faster under sail! ► Launched at the La Rochelle boat show in September 1994, the Athena 38 was positioned between the Tobago 35 and the Venezia 42. All the models in this second generation, designed by Joubert/Nivelt, are characterized by their blunt bows, very rounded shapes on the inside (the miracle that polyester GRP must have been for naval architects long familiar with wood, steel, aluminum, and chined bilges!) and finally the overhanging coachroof cap, which is the one feature that would be retained and still remains today. ► Lightweight and well-canvased, the Athena 38 is lively and fun to sail from the single helm station – positioned on the aft face of the coachroof, on the starboard side. Obviously, the relatively short length and skeg keels reduced do it no favors when close-hauled in bigger seas, but in all other conditions, this little catamaran will surprise more than one helmsman with its performance - which can be boosted by decent sails and the installation of folding propellers. ► The model Graham presents to us is from 2001 and is a three-cabin version - the entire starboard hull is dedicated to the owner. The nacelle offers a rounded saloon that can easily accommodate six people, a chart table/desk, and a U-shaped galley. Logically, there is only one bathroom per hull. On the starboard side, Graham has a fully equipped workshop. Admittedly, the comfort is somewhat rustic, the sill at the entrance to the nacelle is a higher than we see today, the sugarscoops are not particularly wide and the paneling is a little worn in places... but for a nearly 25-year-old multihull purchased for €115,000, the Athena 38 still has a lot to offer and, above all, can take you anywhere: An excellent base for refit! ► Technical specifications: Builder: Fountaine Pajot Architect: Joubert/Nivelt Interior design: Olivier Flahault Length: 38’ (11.6 m) Beam: 20’8” (6.3 m) Draft: 3’1” (0.95 m) Air draft: 59’ (17.85 m) Light displacement: 12,125 lbs (5.5 t) Sail area: 947 sq ft (88 m²) Motors: 2 x 20 HP Fuel: 180 l Water: 360 l Second-hand price: from €100,000 ex-tax ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Morgan 41 Used Boat Review: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sailboat-reviews/morgan-41-used-boat-test The Contessa 32 is one of the most legendary bluewater sailboats ever built — a true classic that earned its reputation the hard way. In this video, we dive deep into everything a prospective buyer needs to know: who built the Contessa 32, where it came from, how it sails, what makes it so seaworthy, and the real-world lessons learned from the 1979 Fastnet Disaster that turned this little boat into an offshore icon. We’ll cover the strengths, the weaknesses, the common problems to watch out for, and why the Contessa 32 remains one of the cheapest true bluewater-capable sailboats on the market today. If you’re dreaming of crossing oceans on a budget — or just love classic, proven offshore designs — this is a boat worth knowing intimately. In this video: • The full history of the Contessa 32 • Jeremy Rogers & David Sadler’s iconic design • How the boat performs offshore and in coastal cruising • Why a Contessa 32 survived Fastnet ’79 when so many others didn’t • What to inspect before buying one • Hull, keel, deck, rigging, and engine concerns • And whether the Contessa 32 is still a smart buy today If you’re researching bluewater boats, planning your first big passage, or simply fascinated by tough-as-nails offshore legends, this video will give you the full story. Keywords: Contessa 32, Contessa 32 review, bluewater sailboat, cheap bluewater boat, Fastnet 1979, offshore sailboat, Jeremy Rogers, David Sadler, best bluewater boats, budget cruising sailboat, ocean sailing, sailboat review, sailing documentary, sailboat buyer’s guide Practical Sailor is your trusted resource for reviews of sailboats and sailing gear. https://www.practical-sailor.com Chat with us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/PracticalSailor/

Wie lässt sich familienfreundliches Segeln mit dem Einhandsegeln kombinieren? In meinem 2.

In this episode we sail to Arbatax and take a closer look at the "reef" at our botten after we been lifted on to the hard. We also rent a car and make a roadtrip up in the mountains. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Day 18 of our Atlantic crossing, and it finally feels like the dream we’ve been sailing toward. Warm air, calm seas, a perfect sunrise, and that deep sense that land is getting closer. Morning coffee, miso soup, and a rare moment of stillness after days of motion. We juggle fuel management, let the engine rest, and soak in the peace of sailing under main alone. As the sun sets, we throw out a fishing line, play with the dogs, and wind down with lentils, fresh avocados, and surprisingly good produce for nearly three weeks at sea. The cockpit turns into a floating movie theater with a projector, popcorn, and a little Christmas spirit creeping in early. We read poems, attempt riddles, laugh at ourselves, and reflect on what it means to spend Christmas mid-Atlantic. And then—finally—the Leeward Islands appear on the chart. Two more days. Almost there. 🌊Go Follow Aiyana! @PiratePrincessChronicles 🌎 FOLLOW OUR CROSSING LIVE @PredictWind Tracker: https://www.predictwind.com/tracking/EvaSailing08282023?3DIcons=true Want to see more about our new Dinghy?! In our last episode, reshared a nail biting 40 minute chase off the coast of Brazil, a suspicious boat that later turned out drug runners. This episode is the aftermath. We break down what happened, what we learned from our encounter, and how it changed the way we think about sailing safet, piracy risk, and self-defence at sea. This is an honest discussion about how cruising sailors can better prepare for the unexpected. It's about knowledge, awareness, and preparation. Whether crossing oceans, coastal sailing, or dreaming of life aboard. We sail overnight from Syracuse in Sicily to Valletta in Malta, where we moor alongside friends for the first time. We take the dinghy across town to the post office, where we pick up a very special parcel. Of course, we can't miss Valletta's historic old town. Join us as we explore the narrow streets of the city, nestled between the sea, walls and history.

Epic Navigator Welcome to Epic Navigator In this video, we are sailing in Antiparos, facing 40+ knots of headwind, during an extreme docking maneuver that leaves zero room for error. This is real-life seamanship, not theory. What you’ll see in this video: Our first approach and the mistakes we made How strong headwind can be the most challenging for Cyclades Why standard docking techniques fail in extreme conditions Letting the boat drift with the wind instead of fighting it Using anchor tension to regain control and reposition the boat The final successful approach, explained step by step ⚓ This is the kind of situation every skipper may eventually face — especially during charter sailing or Mediterranean strong wind conditions.
