The end of the current metal work which comes with fabricating the bronze floors we are installing in Arabella is finally nearing its end. These structural members tie the frames to the centerline and whether they be wood or metal, are one of the most important parts of the build. We have put a lot of time and effort into fabricating these and are really excited to get to installing them in their home. The most complicated of these floor timbers are the ones in the stern that are going to be supporting the engine beds. The engine sits level with propeller shaft and therefore needs to be supported at that height (about 2 feet/ .6 m up from the keel timber) which meant for some tall and strong floor construction there. As the engine provides propulsion for the vessel, that force needs to be transferred into the hull as opposed to moving the engine. To transfer that energy, it is crucial to make sure the engine is securely connected to multiple frames (otherwise these could crack under the force). This is why the engine sits on engine beds that are connected to the frames via the floor timbers and connects 4 frame pairs together. These were a lot of fun to figure out and make but we are very much looking forward to installing these and getting back to some woodworking. Our first anchoring experience for the season was interesting. A huge low pressure came in over the Salish Sea and we were right in it. We had picked a safe anchorage but didn’t expect that the dinghy would capsize with the outboard on it! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. The weather gave us some challenges making our way down the coast of Australia towards Sydney. After spending a lot of time creeping through the inshore channels, heading out to sea was a bit of a shock to our systems, especially when we were caught in an un-forecasted storm. I am so thrilled to share this experience with you! 3 years ago I started this YouTube channel, because I wanted to make videoes about my sailing journeys around the cold waters of the North Sea. Freebie has been at anchor for a few weeks, and in that time period we've lost a lot of sleep worrying about dragging anchor. It seems that our fears were warranted as we drug multiple times in those few weeks. Aside from getting hung up on sunken engine blocks, our 200' of chain and 35 pound mantus seemed to do nothing for us anytime it blew over 15 knots because of the poor holding. It was time get out of that anchorage before we drug to shore. We found an affordable private dock here in Marathon, FL and we're sleeping much better at night now. If you're looking for affordable dockage in the keys, I encourage you to post in local facebook groups like we did. It's all fun and games in the exotic Caribbean island of Dominica. In this episode we make the 36 hour sail from Grenada and arrive into a mountainous island covered in rain forest and dense, tropical jungle. The first thing we do is take a trip via rowboat up the enchanting Indian River where scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 were filmed. Annapolis Yacht Club May 22nd. The good sailing fortune continues on the Chesapeake as PHRF 0,1,2, J105, J80, Etchells, Harbor 20, J30 duke it out on another perfect night on the water.

Menorca has been good to Azzurra when the 52 SUPER SERIES has visited in the past. In 2016 they turned a corner at the Menorca event to convert a bad season to a clear win the last event of the season in Cascais. And in 2017 the Italian-Argentine team clinched the season-long series title, partying long into the night in Mahón. Today the Roemmers’ family team made a very strong start to the 2019 52 SUPER SERIES with a second and first from the first two races to jump out to a clear early lead at the Menorca 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week. In light winds, just six to 11 knots of patchy breezes, it was the brand-new, straight-from-the-wrapper Bronenosec that took first blood in Race 1, Day 1 of 2019, to give Russian owner Vladimir Liubomirov the best welcome back to the world’s leading grand prix mononhull circuit after a year out. With Croatian sailing hero Sime Fantela, the 470 Rio gold medal winner, promoted to the helm on what was his first ever 52 SUPER SERIES race, Bronenosec led all the way round the course to take the first winning gun of a highly anticipated season. Azzurra started best in the second contest, nailing the pin end of the line to be sure that they – like Bronenosec in the first heat – could not be challenged at all after the windward mark. While the three-time circuit champions Azzurra had a standout day, the 2018 champions Quantum Racing made a modest start to their title defence with an eighth in the 11-boat fleet in the day’s first race followed by a fifth to lie seventh overall. The forecast light sea breeze failed to materialise today for the 11-strong fleet of TP52s at the Menorca 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, and so racing had to be cancelled for the day. The standings remain the same with Azzurra (Alberto & Pablo Roemmers) leading the results table by four points ahead of Platoon (Harm Müller-Spreer) after Tuesday’s two races. It may not have been a good day for competition but a new initiative to help clean up the seabed around the race docks in the host marinas recovered a significant amount of discarded debris and rubbish thanks to the team’s divers and local divers.
