One way we prepare for a serious crossing is by taking apart our nesting dinghy, lifting the 2 halves aboard the boat, and secure it to the forward deck. This is a much safer way to sail when there is a possibility of encountering large seas, high winds, or conditions that would threaten to flip or sink the dinghy if we towed it behind the boat. Another benefit is that we sail a bit faster when the dinghy is on the deck instead of being towed. We go anywhere from 1/2 to a full knot faster with the dinghy broken down and stored on the deck. The process of lifting and securing our dinghy to the deck takes about an hour from start to finish - and also the same amount of time to reassemble and launch it again when we arrive at our new destination. In this video, we'll show you how we disassemble, lift, and secure our nesting dinghy on the deck of our boat. Thanks for watching!! Ben, Tambi, & Molly | S/V Sandflea | "SAILBOATSTORY"

I get the question all the time what does it mean when a catamaran is "Not For Sale to US Citizens While in US Waters." I thought it would be a good idea to put together a quick video answering the question. Turtle tagging , Island Hopping & Hatching Clams This week we island- hop on our way towards the mainland. We spend a few days at the stunning island of Makogai, where we get a tour of the Giant Clam Hatchery and also get the chance to see some turtle tagging by the researchers from the University of the South Pacific. We overnight at the stunning Naigani Island and pick our way through the reef system to Nananu -I -Cake . Our plans to dive Bligh Water are thwarted by the weather, so we move on towards Denarau. We are Jo and Rob, a slightly crazy husband and wife team, who decided on a whim to sell up and set sail . We had no prior sailing experience when we bought out 40ft catamaran 'Double Trouble' , but hey, mere details right? We moved onboard in January 2017 and have been learning ever since. We love our life , both on and under the oceans. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment ,so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. No fishing rods for us . Join us for fun and games as we set off around the world at walking pace. 👏Credits: Thanks to 'Shure ' microphones for voiceover sound. 🎼Music: DT Theme tune - 'Happy' by MBB https://soundcloud.com/mbbofficial Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... In this episode of Sailing Zephyr we have our first guests on-board Zephyr. They teach us how to trim sails and we have an amazing day out on the water. We leave the USVI and head for the BVI's. First stop is Jost Van Dyke where we meet our friends Zane and Shivani. Later that week we head to Anegada. A truly magical island. Following Simon Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/finding_simon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/findingsimon Website: http://simonstiles.com/ Asking Simon - Who are you? I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

Multimasted sailboats fall into different categories based on the size and position of their masts. Schooners have a taller aft mast, while Ketches and Yawls have a smaller aft mast. In general, if the aft mast (also called a Mizzen) is forward of the rudder post, it is called a Ketch; aft of the rudder post is called a Yawl. While these sailboats leave much to be desired while sailing into the wind, they are amazing machines with a little secret hidden up their rig when sailing off the wind! Getting to really know a place is when you have gotten to really know the people. For me it's most notably Peixe. One of the first guys I met who helped me fix my outboard motor and invited us to his home over six months ago. He's with again a journey to Tarafal for Easter. There we meet more dear friends we have gotten to know, and they invite us to a big birthday party. We have to get back and the return journey is arduous, but easy with Peixe as crew. He's looking into hauling out my boat in Mindelo. But I we have to wait. So me and Nat decide to go to a sheltered cove just a few miles south of Mindelo that's known to locals, but not to passing sailors. We go and discover the hidden cove few know about. We paint the topsides of our Boat and explain the costs involved. WE SAVE 8 GRAND! The ultimate DIY project https://www.sailingnandji.com In the is episode of Sailing Nandji, we make Nandji look beautiful. We have been completing some major work to our boat and as our time comes to end in the boat yard, the final upgrades are being complete. Our new motor is installed and running like a dream and now it is time to make Nandji look a million bucks! Over the 7 weeks we have been in the boat yard, we have been lucky to have Uncle help us out everyday upgrading our beloved Nandji. Every day he would roll up to the boat yard ay 9 am ready for a full days work on Nandji. A little bit every day he laboured on the topsides filling and fairing then sanding it all back to create a smooth shiny finish. The final appearance is all done in the prep and with the 200+ hours invested into the topsides, Nandji looks amazing! Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! Indian Ocean here we come!! It's a bit of a day-in-the-life sort of vlog this week, but we do deal with a cold front and a mess in the anchor locker. But wait...there's even more! We introduce you to the Ultimate Boat Cushion! Hey! I wrote a couple books and narrated some audiobooks in case you are interested. Elizabeth and I have lived in New York, but we've never had the opportunity to take our kids there - so it was quite special to sail there with them! After anchoring just outside the city in Long Island we took the train into The Big Apple and hit the main sights. But the highlight had to be the Empire State Building. Or was it Times Square and the Lion King? Who knows - but I'll tell you this, after all the amazing places we have been, the kids still say that sailing into New York City has been their highlight! POSTING DAILY ON SOCIAL: https://www.the-sailing-family.com https://www.instagram.com/the_sailing_family/ https://www.facebook.com/the-sailing-family-voyage/ ----------------- ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran named "Archer" and sharing our adventures in family-friendly episodes on YouTube! OUR ROUTE: We departed the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States and sailed down to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Australia. OUR PAST: You may remember us as "SV Honeymoon?" Ten years ago ("before kids"), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named Honeymoon halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via YouTube and, by happenstance, created one of the very first "sailing channels." We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids. FAQ: More questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website or answers to many of your questions in this 40 minute episode: https://www.the-sailing-family.com/faq https://youtu.be/jBzTUVZ5oG4 PLEASE COMMENT!: As a channel with kids on-board, we are required to actively monitor all comments, but we still want to hear from you. Tell us what you think! THANKS for watching all. Subscribe and never miss an episode! CLICK HERE TO SEE WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW: https://us0-share.inreach.garmin.com/Archer
After hiding for the storm in Gythion, the old port of the Spartans, we cross the gulf towards Plytra. Via the beautiful turquoise Frangos bay in the south of Elafonisos we round the evil Cape Maléas towards the old Byzantium city of Monemvasia.

We will discover our last chapter together with Alena Blohm. In our previous chapters, we have highlighted the problems of plastic in the oceans, its impact on the life of fishermen. We will meet now people who are committed to helping to solve the problem. They are numerous in the world; and, they are in Mumbai too. With Alena Blohm, we returned to Dharavi and meet a community working and dedicated on recycling plastic, the Green Workers, who are also supported by the association Dharavi Project. “Their work is enormous”. The Dharavi Project told us; without them the whole Mumbai would be a dump. They indeed act daily, tracking in the streets all possible plastic from the streets, beaches and dumps, they bring it in their homes where they sort it, segregate it and then sell it to be recycled. They make money by doing so, as a daily activity which is extremely useful. The association supports them, organizes and train them to better methods of waste-handling and recycling. The association also tries to give them better sanitary conditions, offering education as well, bringing thus hope to the community. The last chapter closes our global vision of plastic in the ocean. We hope you enjoy it. The solution is in our hands, we can do all things better, we in North Sails first, they are no excuses. #OceanForLife #TheMumbaiDiaries Find inspiration with the rest of our collection: https://n.orthsails.com/2ygRt30 Follow us on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NorthSailsCollection/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northsails_collection/
