Wenig Wind verlangte 2025 den Seglern bei den Boddenetappen einiges ab. Das Rennen nach Lubmin musste kurz nach dem Start in der Flaute abgebrochen werden. Samstag ging es dann direkt nach Gustow, da nachlassender Wind angesagt war. Die Sonne kam auch noch raus und so wurde es dann doch noch ein ganz schöner Segeltag auf dem Greifswalder Bodden. Sonntag ging es dann für uns schon wieder in heimische Gewässer. Danke an die Ausrichter für die schöne Veranstaltung.

This video covers the build of the structural box beam in the master cabin. There is 5mm of unidirectional eglass being applied to both hull and box beam, so there is A LOT of fibreglass in this lamination. Because of this, Shayne is going to infuse this part. There is a lot of work in preparing the existing surface, building the foam box frame, and preparing for infusion. Actually, it was a week's worth of work, and as you can tell from the thumbnail for this video, the infusion did not go to plan. We knew that there was a risk that if there was a leak anywhere between the hull and the box beam we were installing, then there would be a vacuum inside, and it would collapse the beam. So, grab your drink of choice and sit back for 33 minutes of engineering tech talk finishing with an infusion implosion that should please the more geeky members of our audience out there. Spoiler alert - it was not all doom and gloom as Shayne was able to rebuild the box beam afterwards - however, that explanation is for the next video. After an early start in Swanage, Dorset, we set out for a casual wander along the coast. We didn’t expect to go far… but the path led us through a lovely stretch of woodland and eventually to Durlston Castle, about a mile down the coast. The castle itself was closed (and we stumbled across a parkrun on the way!), so we turned back to Swanage. This video marks the end of my sailing season. I visit Vonitsa before heading into a marina in Preveza where the boat will rest for the winter. Looking back, it has been an incredible journey of 2,340 nautical miles, starting just outside Venice, sailing down the entire Croatian coast, back into Italy, and finally into Greece, heading past Corfu to end in Preveza. Every mile was powered by the sun, without plugging in once. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. After two months at sea, we’ve left Stockholm, Sweden behind, crossed the Baltic, and entered the Atlantic through the Kiel Canal. On the way, we even traded sailboats, selling our old 33-foot cruiser and buying a 37-foot Bavaria, better suited for the seas ahead. ⛵️ In this video, we explore the remote island of Helgoland, known for its dramatic cliffs, birdlife, and intense rafting (boats tied together in huge clusters). From there, we sail down the German coast and into the Netherlands to take on the famous Standing Mast Route, a pretty surreal experience where you guide your sailboat like a car, passing through cities, under countless bridges, and even mooring right in the middle of town. We take you through that experience, how we came through it and the lessons we learnt so we hoepfully never have to do that again.... The good news coming out it though is that the systems that Portofino helped to create with Italian steering specialists are available for everyone to use and mean that Manual Emergency Tillers can be a thing of the past and never be needed again.... It is amazing stuff and even been approved by the certification bodies and if the steering ever dies on the Portofino, the steering wheel in the helm station will be where the "emergency" steering works from - SO MUCH BETTER THAN MANUAL STEERING FROM THE TRANSOM!
