Hello From The SEA !!!!! There are certain places in the world, where Sea merges into the Ocean. Due to merging of these two different water bodies, abnormal phenomenon is prevalent in that area. During our last voyage, we encountered one such geographical phenomenon " FUNNEL EFFECT " This phenomeneon results in strong abnormal water currents to prevail in that area, that causes reduction in speed of Ships transiting through that area. Selat LOMBOK Strait is a water body that connects Bali Sea to Indian Ocean. Located in between Bali and Lombok Island of Indonesia. We had to pass through Lombok Strait during our voyage from Australia to China. Where we encountered strong adverse currents. Hello from the SEA !!!!! The Yangtze River.... Third longest river in the world, Yangtze is the busiest river in terms of shipping Traffic. Our transit through the Yangtze was a quite long one. We had a Pilotage of around 21 hrs, that too in a busy river. There are numerous cargo ports and shipyard along the length of Yangtze. China's 60% of shipping transport takes place in the river. Navigating through Yangtze is itself challenging for the Ship's staff. Adequate planning and preparation is required. There were total of 5 overhead bridges we crossed while transiting through the river. That's how a SEAFARER life is. Hello From The Sea !!!!! Welcome to the Episode 4 of Horizon Tales Shipping Industry is the Back bone of Supply Chain. Around 80% of volume of International Trade in goods are carried by the Ships. This VLOG is about one such Cargo shipment. We loaded around 170,000 MT of Iron Ore from Australia and our Discharging Port was fixed in China. Bulk Carrier ships are designed to carry huge amount of Ore cargo in Bulk. Our Vessel is a Cape Size Bulk Carrier. We usually load Iron Ore in Bulk from Australian Port and discharge the cargo in Chinese ports. Trie my best to showcase the whole discharging operation and Life of seafarers druing Cargo Operation. This VLOG is about the Tropical Storm we encountered on our route from Australia to China. How we tackled it and took early avoiding actions to minimise the effect of rough weather on our ship Weather conditions at Sea changes in a Blink of an Eye. You have to be prepared for it. Technology has come a long way. Nowadays we can recieve real time update regarding any tropical storm developing in our route. This enables us to plan our voyage accordingly.
