On our last episode, we left Brunswick, Georgia, with no real plan for where we’d stop. This time, we kept heading north toward Charleston—and boat life had a few surprises waiting for us. A loose water maker hose emptied our tanks into the bilge, leaving us with a lot of water to make and a long overnight passage ahead. Steve was seasick, so I took the helm, made jambalaya underway, and we each took a watch through the night. By morning, we were tired, relieved, and almost to Charleston. We anchored near the USS Yorktown, but soon discovered why the anchorage was so quiet: once the boat traffic picked up, the waves came from every direction. A rough night, a badly stubbed toe, and a $65 dinghy dock didn’t stop the boys from heading over to explore this incredible World War II aircraft carrier. If there’s one of our podcasts to watch or listen to, this is the one, as I was finally able to catch up with the Snorkel Venture Big Boss himself, Ben Stokes, at his home in sunny England. I don’t say “sunny” ironically, either. As it was October, I was expecting grey skies and soggy shoes, but it was a stunning day in the English countryside. Ben and I sat down and sipped on delicious English ales and talked about the beginning of Snorkel Venture and the ethos Ben and his lovely wife Sarah–who also holds Big Boss status–have worked hard to maintain. Our convo, of course, gets interrupted by multiple callers, all of whom try to force Ben to jump back into touring again after having settled comfortably into domestic bliss. We then talk about some of the big challenges with starting a snorkel travel agency before we move on to what Ben sees for the future of Snorkel Venture. In this episode we sail the water way to Rome up into the River Tibern where our summer berth are but we also rent a car to do some sightseeing in the surroundings of Rome of the beaten turist track we visit an amazing aviation museum and Emperor Hadrians villa without the normal crowds at the turist hotspots in central Rome. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. After an unforgettable time exploring Ibiza, we continue our journey west towards the Caribbean, crossing to mainland Spain and dropping anchor in the beautiful coastal town of Calp. Cruising life is always full of surprises, and one of the highlights of this leg of the adventure was meeting up with friends who kindly drove us to the supermarket so we could stock up on much-needed provisions before continuing our voyage. From Calp we sailed south towards the Mar Menor, but our plans were suddenly put on hold when a bridge breakdown prevented us from entering the lagoon. Sometimes cruising is all about patience, and this unexpected delay was just another reminder that life at sea rarely goes exactly to plan. Once through the Mar Menor, we set course for Gibraltar. With almost no wind, this became one of those passages where the engine did most of the work as we motored across glassy Mediterranean waters, enjoying the peaceful conditions and reflecting on how far Ula has come on her voyage to the Caribbean. ► The world's largest in-water sailboat show opened its doors on Thursday, October 15, on the shores of Chesapeake Bay in the United States. With more than 150 sailboats on display and some 500 exhibitors, the Annapolis Sailboat Show confirms its status as one of America's major boating events. Our team is on site to discover the latest multihulls at this 2026 edition! ► Arriving for the second day of the show, we immediately rediscovered everything that makes Annapolis so special: packed docks, enthusiastic visitors and an exceptionally friendly atmosphere. Gray skies and somewhat unpredictable weather? After some 15 years of walking these docks, we know perfectly well that a few clouds have never discouraged American sailing enthusiasts! Some visitors are looking for their next multihull, others are preparing for a winter cruise in the Caribbean, while others have simply come to discover the latest models. All are taking advantage of the opportunity to step aboard the boats on display and meet the builders. ► Multihulls Out in Force! Our first observation: multihulls are particularly numerous and varied this year. Alongside the large cruising catamarans, smaller models are also well represented, notably with trimarans from Corsair and Dragonfly. There's something to suit a wide range of sailing plans, from sporty day sailing to long-distance cruising. A few changes to the show's layout are worth noting due to redevelopment work in Annapolis Harbor. This episode starts with me leaving the Flinders Island Group in barely a breath of wind, crawling along and watching the clock as I try to reach my next anchorage before sunset. It’s one of those classic Far North Queensland days where patience is everything… until the wind finally arrives. When it fills in at around 20 knots, ARGO comes alive and I’m suddenly moving at a much better pace. Along the way I hook another cracking Spanish mackerel, and I take you through the whole process — bringing it aboard safely while solo, then filleting it later to stock up on fresh meals for the days ahead. There’s nothing quite like catching your own food on passage. I also show how I adjusted the reefing line to get it working better with the mainsail, explaining the tweak and why it makes a difference when sailing alone. After discovering that Salloo’s windlass was seized, we made the decision to pivot our plans. Originally, we intended to move Salloo 400 nautical miles north from the Gold Coast to Gladstone, where we planned to complete the refit. Instead, we decided to bring our sailing catamaran, SV Emma James, 400 nautical miles south from Gladstone to the Gold Coast, and now we are headed back to Gladstone to bring the sailboat south to the Gold Coast. Before we leave Salloo, we spend some time measuring the accommodation level and starting to work out the new interior layout. The current layout has five cabins, three showers and two toilets. Our plan is to transform this into three larger cabins, two showers, two toilets, a dedicated office and laundry, and plenty of storage, including a much larger master cabin and space for guests, making the space usable for us. This was, without a doubt, one of the hardest days we have experienced since setting off on our liveaboard sailing adventure — and the sail that brought Shezz to tears. Leaving Mackay Marina in Queensland, Australia, we knew the conditions were going to be challenging, but nothing quite prepared us for what was waiting offshore. As we headed north, the sea state quickly deteriorated and we found ourselves battling 3.5 to 4 metre standing waves, strong winds and incredibly rough conditions. This was some of the most intense sailing we have experienced so far on our journey around Australia. For anyone following our liveaboard sailing journey around the world, this episode gives a very real look at what life at sea can actually be like. Sometimes it is exhausting, uncomfortable, emotional and downright frightening — especially when you're living aboard a sailboat and the ocean decides to turn it on. With conditions becoming too difficult to continue safely, we made the decision to seek shelter overnight at Brampton Island. After a rough and emotional day at sea, getting safely anchored and having the boat protected from the worst of the conditions was an enormous relief. The following day brought a completely different side of Queensland sailing. We continued north through the spectacular Smith Islands, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Great Barrier Reef, before making our way to Shaw Island, where we finally dropped anchor for the night. This episode is a reminder that cruising and sailing around Australia comes with incredible highs and some very difficult lows. From rough seas and standing waves to stunning tropical islands and remote anchorages, this is the reality of our journey as we continue sailing north and working our way towards the Torres Strait and, eventually, Indonesia and beyond. The 606nm Rolex Middle Sea Race starts and finishes in one of the most spectacular harbours in the world with its city’s shorelines dominated by massive 16th Century, 60 metre high limestone fortifications and bastions. There’s even a real cannon used for the starting gun, fired from the Saluting Battery on the fortifications high above the start line in Grand Harbour. In this introduction Crosbie gives an overview of the race, the fleet and the expected conditions. Note that the weather briefing which came after we shot this intro suggests the building southeasterlies from Sunday onwards combined with a 2 metre seaway could be earlier and stronger, making things very tough going for the middle to lower fleet as they head south for Lampedusa Island. @RolexMiddleSeaRace_

Is Bora Bora really the ultimate paradise of the Society Islands? 🌴⛵️ We spent two weeks there, and since we explored the island with our own boat rather than staying in a luxury resort, our experience was naturally quite different. Honestly? For us, the Instagram hype is just that — hype. There’s a lot of tourism, restrictions everywhere, and almost everything comes at an extra cost. The underwater world is beautiful, of course, and certainly more spectacular than the Mediterranean. But watching sharks and rays being fed to create that perfect tourist experience left us with mixed feelings. And then we discovered Maupihaa Atoll. ❤️ Stunning beaches, no crowds, an incredibly kind local family, and an underwater world that took our breath away. A little piece of paradise in the middle of the Pacific — the kind of place that reminds us why we love sailing and exploring remote places so much. After nearly five months in French Polynesia, it’s time to say goodbye. We leave with full hearts, countless memories, and deep gratitude for the incredible time we’ve been lucky enough to spend here. 🌊 Join us on our sailing journey!
