salut les loulous ⚓⛵ Ce matin, j’ai commencé la journée par une petite lessive improvisée, les pieds dans l’eau tiède de ma grande bassine. Un moment simple, rythmé par le clapotis . Plus tard, je me suis attaqué à mon vieux masque de plongée, fidèle compagnon depuis plus de vingt ans. Avec les moyens du bord un morceau de chambre à air je lui ai offert une seconde vie. Une réparation de fortune, mais pleine de satisfaction. J’ai pris le temps de vérifier les réparations effectuées en navigation, notamment les drosses de barre. Tout semble tenir bon, et cela me rassure. Le temps est splendide aujourd’hui, alors je me suis laissé tenter par une balade dans le désert du Cap-Vert. Les paysages sont à couper le souffle : vastes étendues silencieuses, lumière éclatante, et cette sensation de liberté absolue. Un décor brut et magnifique. After months of life in Luperón, Dominican Republic, it was finally time to move on… and take on one of the Caribbean’s most notorious crossings — the Mona Passage. We set sail for Puerto Rico on a 47-hour, 245 nautical mile passage, pushing through a double overnight sail with little sleep and sea sickness, and light wind. Landfall didn’t exactly go as planned… Our first stop in Rincón turned into a rolly anchorage, forcing us to keep moving. We pushed further south to Boquerón — and finally found what we needed: ✔️ Calm waters ✔️ A real night of sleep ✔️ A stunning beach and vibrant town From there, things got a lot more fun — paddleboarding in strong winds and even wing foiling. I pay more attention to wind direction than wind strength. Here in our side tied slip at Fernandina Harbor Marina, it’s the west by northwest winds that give us pause. They race across the shallow bay, piling up whitecaps and rocking the floating docks and boats. This night, the cold northwest blasts hit 45+ knots, turning the evening into something between uncomfortable at best and downright hazardous for those that did not make the proper preparations to their boat, for it is these boats that endanger the others. At just 5 feet long, this handcrafted 1941 Bugeye model isn’t your typical pond boat. Built and restored by shipwright Captain Neal Parker, this miniature Chesapeake classic is constructed with the same care, detail, and techniques used on full-sized working vessels. Like her full sized version, which were originally carved from logs, the scale model is too. Impressive! Originally, Bugeyes were iconic workboats used for oyster dredging and scallop dragging on the Chesapeake Bay—rugged, purposeful, and unmistakably beautiful. What makes this model so remarkable is that it captures all of that history… in just five feet. From the bowsprit to the stern, every detail tells a story. And in the offseason, while most boats are hauled and covered, craftsmen like Captain Neal are keeping maritime history alive—one model at a time. His has repaired models from all over the world and some reside in the Mystic Seaport Museum in Stonington, Connecticut. He's the real deal.
