Ein Leck, das uns (leider) noch die nächsten Monate begleiten wird – wir zeigen, wie wir es entdecken, eindämmen und was das für den Alltag an Bord bedeutet. Damit nicht genug: Es wird technisch. Wir installieren unsere Cyclops Rig Sensoren und zeigen die ersten Messungen – Rigg-Load, Spannung, Kontrolle, Daten direkt vom Mast. Wer auf Performance, Sicherheit und Trimm steht, kommt hier auf seine Kosten. Und weil Strom auf Langfahrt alles ist, geht’s an die Energieversorgung: Wir versuchen einen Zeus High Power Alternator einzubauen (Spoiler: “versuchen” ist das richtige Wort) und montieren außerdem zwei Zeus Regulatoren – mehr Ladeleistung, stabilere Bordelektrik, weniger Stress. Wind? Leider eher Mangelware. Viel Motoren, wenig Segel-Action. Und wenn ihr auf Fangfotos hofft: Kein Fisch – aber immerhin jede Menge Erkenntnisse, Upgrades und echtes Leben auf dem Boot. We just took Eoti from Daytona Beach to Titusville, navigating the Florida coastline and observing local wildlife. We saw dolphins, raccoons, deer, and so many different deer that it was hilarious. Entering Daytona, we saw a 4-foot shark breach fully out of the water. Fast Escapes & Island Days With the Fastnet on the horizon and weather windows to catch, Simon and Tracey slipped away for a short but perfectly timed summer break aboard Dazcat 1495 Hissy Fit. What followed was a quick pre-race getaway to the Isles of Scilly - short hops between islands, relaxed cockpit dining, and time ashore exploring some of their favourite corners. Departing the Helford River, the cruise began with a moment that perfectly set the tone. Simon spotted two boats from his past: a beautiful (and allegedly fast) Nigel Irons cutter, and Dazcat 14 Lady Bounty, perhaps the very first Dazcat he worked on, back when he was still on the tools. Seeing both boats looking so well was a genuine pleasure, and Simon’s quiet delight at crossing paths with his own history was a joy to watch. Out west, Hissy Fit did what Dazcats do best - making the most of short weather breaks to deliver big rewards. Island-hopping, calm anchorages, easy walks ashore and unhurried evenings in the cockpit defined the days. Simon’s boundless enthusiasm for anything floating, splashing or moving with the tide set the tone, while Tracey found her happy place among beautiful anchorages, good walks, and the welcome comfort of a warm cabin when the deck turned a little soggy. A compact cruise, full of all the good bits a holiday should have, and the perfect reminder that even in the run-up to a major race, there’s always time for a little Dazcat magic.
