This time on Distant Shores we have something a little different for you - a behind-the-scenes look at the design process taking place for the new Enksail Orion 54 aluminum sailboat, the big sister to our Orion 49. If you are interested in boat building and boat design, we share a recent video conference we had with Ronald van Enkhuizen, the general manager of Enksail Yachts, where we discuss how the design of the 54 is taking shape, go over early design drawings and make suggestions based on our experience sailing over 17,000 nm on the Orion 49. To illustrate our recommendations, we show video clips that relate to topics in the discussion that we filmed on location on our current Atlantic circuit. After watching the video, we encourage you to give your input and make suggestions too. #boatbuilding #boatdesign #EnksailOrion54 00:00 Greetings and Introduction 01:57 More enquiries about a larger Orion so pre-production is beginning 02:32 Drawings comparing Orion 49 to first version of Orion 54 03:55 Pilot salon suggestions 05:57 3D design of Orion 54 exterior 07:02 Orion 54 keel construction plus 3 rudders 08:10 Experience at sea, 18,000 nm and 3 ocean crossings with Orion 49 09:20 Lower salon or additional cabin on Orion 54 11:50 Design features for best visibility and sun protection 12:28 Building a boat is an enjoyable and interesting process 15:09 Good collaboration working on this design together, more to come! 16:59 Invitation to give your thoughts and suggestions in the comments 17:10 Check out Enksail Yachts new YouTube Channel to follow more boats in build. ⛵️ Our Boat: Enksail Orion 49 aluminum sailboat with variable-draft swing-keel https://distantshores.ca/about-us/the-boats/ ⛵️Yacht Manufacturer: Enksail Yachts / Gebroeders van Enkhuizen Yachtbuilding https://enksail.gebrvanenkhuizen.nl/en/ 🏝️ Sail Away Weeks - Join the Crew! I showed up expecting my new $1.5M electric catamaran to be finished… but something wasn’t right. The boat looks nearly complete — and honestly, it’s incredible to see how far it’s come. In this video, I take you inside the Island Spirit factory for a full walkthrough of the latest progress. But there’s one missing component that’s keeping everything from being finished… I’ll show you the entire boat first — then reveal what’s holding it up, why it matters, and how long the delay might be. After that, I switch gears and start getting the Highfield dinghy fully rigged and ready to go so we’re set the moment the boat is finally delivered. 👇 Let me know in the comments: Would YOU wait another month for everything to be done right? Baking bread is probably not something one thinks about when sailing, but I have found that Sailboat Life is allot more about eating, than it is about sailing. You gotta eat. Can you make fresh baked bread on a small sailboat? I am using an ancient Einkorn flour. Einkorn is an ancient, unhybridized wheat with a nutty flavor, rich in nutrients (lutein, B vitamins) and higher in protein than modern wheat. It has weak gluten, making it easier to digest for those with sensitivities, though it is not gluten-free and unsuitable for celiacs. It requires less water in baking and is ideal for rustic bread, cakes, and cookies. In this video I talk about and then make some bread on my 32' Sailboat with my dog Buster at my side. We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. Sailing Indonesia, Anambas Islands sailing, navigating shallow reefs, boat life vlog, sailing family Liveaboard sailboat life, reef navigation sailing, sailing without charts, cruising Southeast Asia, off grid island life Sailing through the Anambas Islands in Indonesia comes with incredible beauty—and real challenges. In this episode, we navigate shallow reefs, explore remote islands, and experience true liveaboard sailboat life. After exploring Moonrock Bay and EcoSymbiosis in our previous episode, we continue our journey through Anambas, slowing down to enjoy the raw beauty of island life. From crystal-clear waters to vibrant coral reefs, this is what sailing Indonesia is all about. We spend the day diving and snorkeling in untouched reefs, while Gaurav takes on freediving lessons with Aaron from SV Moyana. What started as a chance meeting has now turned into family at sea, making this journey even more special. But sailing in Indonesia isn’t easy. While navigating from Moonrock Bay to Terampa, we face a sudden mainsail issue when the clew pin breaks mid-sail. Out here, in remote waters, there’s no quick fix—you rely on your skills and teamwork. Navigating shallow reefs in Indonesia is one of the biggest challenges for sailors. With outdated charts and unpredictable depths, we often sail using Google Maps and visual navigation—with Vaidehi guiding from the bow to safely pass through reef-filled waters. Back in Terampa, the reality of boat life kicks in—boat repairs, daily chores, and managing essentials. With no washing machine onboard, we hand over a month’s laundry to a local service, adapting to life in remote island communities. This is off-grid sailing life—unfiltered, unpredictable, and deeply rewarding. 👉 Subscribe and follow our journey as we sail across the world, one island at a time. 📸 Instagram: @thereevaproject 📘 Facebook: The Reeva Project #SailingIndonesia #AnambasIslands #BoatLife #Liveaboard #SailingFamily #ReefNavigation #Freediving #OceanLife #SlowTravel #TheReevaProject

Make Your Own Offshore Sails and Save Thousands: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sails-rigging-deckgear/sails-canvas/make-your-own-offshore-sails-and-save-thousands/ How long do sails actually last? Sailmakers often say cruising sails last around 10–15 years, but what happens when you discover a sail that’s nearly 50 years old? In this video I head to the sail loft to inspect the sails on my sailboat Lady K and uncover a surprising piece of sailing history: a genoa that turns out to be the original sail from 1980. That discovery raises an important question every sailor eventually faces when maintaining a sailboat — how long should sails really last? We break down the lifespan of Dacron sails vs laminate sails, why cruising sails can sometimes survive for decades, and the real factors that determine when a sail needs replacing. From UV damage and stitching failure to sail shape and performance loss, this video explains what sailors, cruisers, and boat owners should know before ordering expensive new sails. If you’re wondering whether your mainsail or genoa is worn out, or how to extend the life of your sails, this deep dive into sail longevity will help you understand what really happens to sailcloth over time. how long do sails last, sailboat sails lifespan, dacron vs laminate sails, when to replace sails, sailboat maintenance, cruising sailboats, sailboat genoa, sailboat mainsail, dacron sail longevity, sailing tips, sailboat gear, sail loft, sail inspection, cruising sails vs racing sails, sailboat ownership, sailing education Practical Sailor is your trusted resource for reviews of sailboats and sailing gear. https://www.practical-sailor.com Chat with us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/PracticalSailor/

I'm actually using the Leaf Two Razor with only one blade fitted into the razor head. I've loaded the blade closest to the top cap. Thus leaving the blade position closest to the exfoliation bar empty. I'm performing a head shave, adopting a two pass approach. I believe that I've cure the problem of the razor jumping and skipping. The Leaf Two did cause me to bleed though. Come along and see how I got on. Please consider subscribing to my channel. ⚓ Catamaran docking in full-electric mode — sheltered forward cockpit (center of gravity) → https://www.windelo-catamaran.com/en/an-innovative-forward-cockpit/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=description&utm_campaign=harbor_maneuvers_w54&utm_content=top_line Learn how to handle catamaran harbor maneuvers with ease aboard a Windelo 54 (same fundamentals across the Windelo range). In this tutorial, we demonstrate real docking situations and close-quarter maneuvering, showing how full-electric propulsion delivers smooth control, instant torque, and near-silent operation in marinas — for a more comfortable experience on board. One key Windelo difference: a sheltered forward cockpit positioned near the boat’s center of gravity. That means better stability, clearer feel at the helm, and excellent visibility for confident low-speed handling in tight spaces. 🔹 In this video: • Catamaran docking techniques (step-by-step) • Harbor / marina maneuvers in tight spaces • Full-electric advantages: silence, comfort, precision • Managing wind and speed at low RPM • Twin motor control & fine adjustments 🌊 Why dock in full-electric mode? Quiet operation, instant torque, less vibration, more confidence during docking and marina maneuvers. Tekne sayesinde ise ulaşılması zor koylara giderek doğanın tadını en saf haliyle çıkarabilirsiniz. tekne, yat, motoryat, yelkenli, lüks yat, tekne turu, deniz yaşamı, boating, yachtlife, yachting, sailing, boatlife, deniz, marina, kaptan, deniz keyfi, yaz tatili, mavi yolculuk, tatil, keşif, adventure, luxury lifestyle, sea life, ocean vibes, boat tour, yacht tour, travel, keşfet, viral, trending, keşfetteyiz, reels, youtube, shorts, tekne tanıtımı, yat tanıtımı, motoryat tanıtımı, yelkenli tekne, tekne inceleme, boat review, yacht review, denizde yaşam, lüks yaşam, tatil vlog, travel vlog, deniz manzarası, sahil, koylar, turkuaz su, summer vibes tekne, tekne tanıtımı, yat, yat tanıtımı, motoryat, motoryat tanıtımı, yelkenli, yelkenli tekne, boat, boat tour, boat review, yacht, yacht tour, yacht review, yachting, boating, sailing, boatlife, yachtlife, deniz, deniz yaşamı, denizde yaşam, marina, kaptan, mavi yolculuk, yaz tatili, tatil, seyahat, travel, travel vlog, vlog, keşfet, keşfetteyiz, viral, trending, reels, youtube, shorts, lüks yaşam, luxury lifestyle, deniz manzarası, koylar, turkuaz su, summer vibes tekne, yat, motoryat, yelkenli, bot, şişme bot, tekne turu, tekne kiralama, yat kiralama, deniz, deniz keyfi, deniz tutkunları, boat, boating, boatlife, yacht, yachting, yachtlife, sailing, sea life, ocean, marina, liman, kaptan, seyir, denizde yaşam, mavi yolculuk, yaz tatili, tatil, gezi, keşif, adventure, travel, travel vlog, vlog, lüks yaşam, luxury lifestyle, sahil, koylar, turkuaz su, güneş, yaz, summer vibes, keşfet, keşfetteyiz, viral, trending, reels, youtube, shorts #balıktaysanözgürsün #automobile #tekne #tekne #boating #teknedeyaşam #fishing #sailing #olta #deniz #boatlife #balık #balikpapan #balıkavı #balıkavı

This is the final episode in our haul-out series – the last push to get ARGO ready for the water again. After all the sanding, antifouling and maintenance work in Episode 2, we tackle some of the bigger structural jobs that have been waiting their turn. First up – fixing soft spots in the deck. It’s a long, awkward job in extremely tight spaces, but absolutely worth it. The result is a stronger, more solid deck and the peace of mind that ARGO is in great shape. We also complete the diesel tank repairs, including installing new fuel hoses so everything is running clean and reliable. With the engines sorted and the tanks repaired, ARGO is now in great shape mechanically as well. But… it wouldn’t be a haul out without a surprise. An unexpected job pops up (as they always do), extending our time on the hard by another week. Boats, hey! While we’re there, Jason makes the most of it and services the clutches, so everything is in top shape and ready for the season ahead. Along the way we tick off a number of other smaller jobs that always seem to appear when the boat is out of the water. After weeks of work, ARGO is now clean, strong and ready to sail again – and we can’t wait to get back out there and kick off sailing Season 3. Thanks for watching.
