We’re in the Wrangell, Alaska shipyards with Alaskan Gypsy, our 80-foot steel motor-sailer under full restoration. The weather’s cold, the fairing compound won’t cure without heat, and my big diesel furnace rental quit—so I pulled this new Vevor portable diesel heater straight out of the box and put it to work. This isn’t a studio review; it’s a real-world torture test. I run the heater nonstop for a full week in a drafty paint tent, measure temps, fuel burn, and reliability, and share what I actually think of it after living with it. Full disclosure - Vevor sent me this heater at no charge, but I have purchased quite a variety of their products before including an earlier model portable diesel heater that I intended to install on our first steel motor-sailer. I haven't installed it yet because I started using it as portable heat on my job sites warming things like the tool shed and the sauna I was building... I didn't want to leave it on the boat it worked so good. Vevor has set up some links for the heater, and other options and a 5% off code. If you have any questions about the heater please comment below. Vevor Diesel Heater: https://s.vevor.com/QTYFE1 Other Options: https://s.vevor.com/QTYJCR (5% Code: VEVT5) In this video: • Vevor diesel heater unboxing & first impressions • Setup and initial start-up without reading the manual 😅 • Emergency use heating a full-size boat tent • Overnight fuel-use test and heat output results • 7-day nonstop performance report • Pros, cons, and whether I’d buy another one It’s cold, wet, and dirty in the shipyard—but this little heater helped keep me fairing in a T-shirt at 38 °F outside. • Intro – why we need heat in the Wrangell shipyard • Unboxing the Vevor diesel heater • Accessories, exhaust, and setup overview • The shipyard problem – big heater failed • First ignition and warm-up test • Fueling, preheat cycle, and first hot air • Full output test inside the paint tent • Overnight results – 10 hours on one tank • 38°F outside, T-shirt weather inside • Week-long continuous run results • Final thoughts – cost, noise, heat, and durability #Vevor #DieselHeater #ProductReview #AlaskanGypsy #BoatRefit #ShipyardLife #SteelBoat #DIYBoat #HeaterTest #WrangellAlaska

After months of hard work preparing our sailboat and settling into life aboard, we finally cast off the lines and leave the marina for our very first day sail in Moreton Bay as liveaboard sailors! This is a huge milestone for us — the moment we took our floating home, Astrid the Wombat, out for a sail as we get ready to take off and sail around the world full-time. We’re Gav and Shezz, an Australian couple who swapped land life for life at sea aboard our 1990 Beneteau Oceanis 430. In this episode, we share the excitement of leaving the dock, raising the sails, and feeling that first rush of wind as we start preparing for long-term cruising. It’s our first proper sail since becoming liveaboard sailors, and the start of the next big chapter in our adventure — gearing up to explore the world by sailboat. Join us as we navigate through the beautiful Moreton Bay, Queensland, and get back into the rhythm of sailing — from checking the rigging and trimming sails to enjoying the incredible views and the peaceful sound of the ocean. Moreton Bay is the perfect place to shake off the dock lines and start dreaming bigger. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s really like to live aboard a sailboat and prepare to cruise the world, this channel is for you. We share the real side of liveaboard life — the learning, the laughter, and that amazing sense of freedom that comes from chasing the horizon. Subscribe to follow our journey as we get ready to sail around the world — one day sail, one anchorage, and one adventure at a time. It's been two years since our first sail in @SailingAstridTheWombat actually that means it's been a year and a half since our first sail ever. That's right a year ago we bought this Beneteau Oceanis 430 and pulled the sail up for the first time ever when we brought her home. A sail that stretched 700 nautical miles from Townsville in Far North Queensland Australia to Moreton Bay in Brisbane Queensland. We are now preparing to move onboard and to sail around the world. Join us to see the challenges as we continue to learn to sail, prepare our boat and make changes so our boat feels like a home. We are moving onboard in just a few weeks so our sailing dream is getting closer and closer. Fidèle à sa conviction profonde de prouver qu’on peut naviguer autrement, grâce à une énergie 100 % renouvelable, le skipper de MSIG poursuit sa route, à la lumière du jour et la seule force des éléments comme moteurs. Free boats are never really free. That one-euro deal comes with years of sweat, setbacks, and sleepless nights. Every patch of rust, every rotten piece, carries its own story. After two incredible months sailing through Vanuatu, this passage from Ambae to Port Vila marks our last sail through these “Islands of Fire and Sea.” 🌋🌊 It’s a journey through volcanoes, coral reefs, and calm anchorages — the kind of sailing that reminds us why we chose this life. This episode captures our final days under sail before preparing Te Tāiko for the passage to New Caledonia — a moment of transition from one island nation to the next, and a reminder that the sea always connects the stories we live. As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song . I’m officially on the hunt for the boat that will take me around the world. In this episode, I visit three possible contenders for the Golden Globe Race — each one with its own story, quirks, and surprises. From full-keel classics to boats that might need more love than I can give, I’m trying to figure out what makes the perfect GGR boat. Spoiler: it’s not an easy decision. Which boat would you pick? ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology. We sailed to one of Greece’s most overlooked islands — Naxos — and uncovered ancient secrets hiding in plain sight. From the legendary Cave of Zeus to abandoned Jesuit monasteries, stone bridges in ghost villages, and timeless terraced hillsides, this island feels like stepping through a portal into another world. This is a cinematic exploration of Greece that most tourists will never experience. Along the way, we swim in crystal-clear waters, hike through ruins, and reflect on the legacy of the Catholic Church, the Ottoman era, and the forgotten architectures of the old world. There’s a strange beauty and melancholy in these places — where gods were once worshipped and empires once ruled. This is part sailing log, part spiritual travelogue, and part historical rabbit hole.
