VLOGMAS Day 2: Back in April our refrigerator compressor went out. We had to order a new one from West Marine, which cost about $850. They are pretty expensive, but it is WELL worth it to us. I can't even imagine having an ice box all the time! We went through so much ice! This is by no means a "How To" video, but I'm still hoping it can help someone. It was a relatively easy and self explanatory installation. What an amazing place to dive! Bottlenose dolphins, manta rays, napoleon wrasses, and sharks on most dives! Schooling barracuda, and so many other fish! We spent our week diving with 6 Passengers and had a blast.

Parti il y a 6 jours de la Trinité-sur-mer sur son tour du monde à l’envers, Yves le Blevec est en passe ce jeudi de doubler le Cap Vert. Sous une chaleur accablante, il bricole une climatisation de fortune avec les moyens du bord. Les conditions météo, toniques et instables les quatre premiers jours, sont désormais beaucoup plus clémentes. « C’est vraiment agréable de pouvoir prendre mon rythme et m’approprier pleinement le bateau (et ce défi) dans de telles conditions », confiait Yves ce matin. Le skipper Actual vient de toucher les alizés, il trace à près de 20 nœuds au large des îles du Cap Vert, cap sur le Brésil. Tout va bien à bord de l’Ultim rouge et noir. Après une petite semaine de course, Yves est passé de l’hiver à l’été, il a négocié une dépression et sa traine orageuse, une dorsale et ses calmes… Il est en approche du pot au noir. Par chance, cette zone de convergence intertropicale est très réduite en ce moment « le ciel va se couvrir pour Yves, lorsqu’il va croiser au large du pot au noir, en deuxième partie de nuit prochaine, mais il ne devrait pas être gêné du tout par ces turbulences », souligne Christian Dumard son routeur. Life becomes a bit more domesticated this week as we cruise along the southern coast of Menorca. The island is full of pure 'Cala' magic and waters bursting with glistening silver mackerel. We also find other wildlife bar the marine meal-quantifying type, with chirping birds accompanying the sunset and random little tortoises milling around on shore!! All in all, this is hands down one of our favourite islands thus far and the most time we have spent on one island all up, especially considering its size… The laid-back, low-touristy vibe suited us SUPERBLY as we came to the end of the summer in the Mediterranean. Non è sempre facile trovare un compagno capace di piegare il gennaker. C'è una bella differenza tra lasciarlo ammucchiato nel suo sacco dopo l'ultima ammainata e piegarlo per bene... L'ideale è di trovare una giornata soleggiata con una brezza leggera, perché se c'è troppo vento il gennaker (o lo spi) rischia di rovinarsi sbattendo. - Si comincia per risciacquare per bene la vela in modo di togliere tutto i sale. - Poi si issa sulla barca (io lo metto testa in giu) per farlo asciugare. - Una volta ammainato meglio fare un controllo per veder se non ci sono dei buchi, in questo caso le ripariamo (prossimamente un video con i procedimento). - Possiamo ora piegarlo

At first I used tape but found out it was possible to buy a cover to close off and seal the hole. It was found at the german site www.svb.de and called "decksdurchführung" the price for the complete cover kit was 42 US dollars.

Yes, it's painful to drive away from the boat after it's been such an important part of our lives for the last 9 months. What the heck is it about boats that gives them a kind of human quality? I mean, we call the boat "her" and "she". Why is that? It's tough to explain the bond that you form with a boat, but none-the-less, the bond is certainly there. For whatever reason, it's that bond that makes it difficult to drive away and leave the boat behind. Lastly, we make a spontaneous stop at my Grandparents house. She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
