Although we were able to capture a lot of this on film, like seeing the curvature of the earth from the summit and the shadow cast off the mountain, this video does not do this magical place any justice. Everyone needs to experience the fresh scents of cedar and the crispness of a cloud as it passes through you on your way to the summit. Just make sure you're in good climbing shape and have done a few climbs at similar elevation before attempting this one. We should mention the converted bunk we will be making inserts for is for use only while in port. We will be using the quarter berths while underway. As mentioned at the beginning of episode 42, we will be powering this boat with a small electric outboard as a true auxiliary engine and we will have two 12ft sweeps as a 3rd method of making way. Continue sailing a boat we loved but did not need from a size or power perspective. Or go all-in on our dreams of living a sustainable, minimalist life while continuing to sail the world. Sure, our path is unconventional (meaning we downsized instead of upsized) but we aren’t the first sailors who felt smaller & simpler was better or that there is no need for a diesel engine with today’s technological advancements in electric engines & battery capacity. This is our dream and we plan on sharing it in the most straightforward and honest way possible - like we said from the get-go. As we found out from a lot of Episode 30’s comments, some of YouTube’s ‘sailors’ don’t seem to agree with our minimalist, no-rush, nature-first approach to sailing. Another overnight offshore passage in the books. It seems every passage we do ends up being around 80-120nm total, which means a portion needs to be at night. Luckily we both enjoy night sailing and can never get over the stars we see along the way. This time we rode out the back edge of a cold front that allowed us to cruise downwind averaging 6.5kts with just our headsail. We arrived safely to Marco Island after 18hrs of sailing and an hour of motoring to prepare for our next leg of the journey. Here we’ll be provisioning, doing yearly engine maintenance, finishing the cockpit teak and going aloft to fix a spreader – all within a week. Oh, and we’ll be filling out the paperwork required to enter our first international port! Hope you all are as excited as we are to finally enjoy the fruits of our labor. From our anchorage in Charlotte Harbor, we are awaiting our weather window to head 'south'. No concrete plans, just destinations. And we'll be finishing up projects all along the way.
