Well, actually its not an island, we are officially at a reef, but the sandbank is always there, so I proclaim it an island. This is such a cool place. A place of life and death. We were not there in time to witness life. But death equally held awe and beauty. Duff reef is a turtle breeding island. It is rarely visited and therefore essentially protected by its own location. We were moved to have the privilege to visit this little spot on our planet. A place like this has to have a catch right? And it did. The anchorage was not a very hospitable. We didn’t doddle for days. One night was unfortunately enough. Enough in the sense we should have installed seatbelts to keep us in bed. Monster side swell kept us airborne most of the time. Quickly we were off to the next island group. Welcome Fulanga! At the very south east of Fiji it is upwind from everywhere. We were so thrilled to have the weather and the time to visit there with Ashley's Mom. Fulanga is special place. A welcoming place. A place of shy and wide smiles. Of beautiful people who set themselves apart by adopting the cruisers that dare to venture there. Tui and his sister, Koro, adopted us and allowed us a few special moments with their family. You will have to stay tuned for the next episode as we really immerse ourselves in the village. We are slowly making our way deeper and deeper into the South Pacific. It’s a far cry from New Zealand and although we love them both, we sometimes feel we are on borrowed time. Perhaps it is we are between periods of our lives. Perhaps it is we are just passing through this part of the world. Our constant is our home, Nahoa. Three years out cruising and we are lost. We know exactly where we are, but we are unsure of our future and even our next destination as plans are changing constantly. And so life goes. Even in paradise there are ups. Amazing inspirational days and downs. When you have doubt. When you don't know your next purpose. I suppose we are human after all. But suffice it to say we aren’t ready for this crazy journey to end anytime soon. So not to worry, we will continue to see what this entire world has to offer…. wherever that may lead us on this beautiful journey aboard NAHOA.

After our three-day crossing from Greece to Sicily, we stretch our legs by hiking up Mt Etna, an active volcano. While waiting for a weather window to Messina, we explore Riposto town and nearby Taormina. We gatecrash the pool bar at the 5-star Capo Taormina, the setting for Luc Besson's classic freediving film The Big Blue. El gets inspired and goes for a freedive to check out the underwater caverns and wildlife. Uma das coisas que sempre defendemos no #SAL é a divulgação da cultura náutica à população. Mas o que exatamente significa isso? Para nós significa dar os meios e o conhecimento para que as pessoas usem o mar, os rios e lagos e tornem isso parte do seu cotidiano. Alguém que usa a água desta forma, não joga um saco plástico em um rio e acha que ele vai sumir, por exemplo. Ter um grande número de pessoas que sabe pegar um barco e chegar a outra margem com segurança, gera em uma sociedade com empresários que enxergam em um rio uma "rodovia" como nenhuma outra. Um líder público que sabe adriçar uma vela, entende que fecha esta mesma “rodovia", ou melhor, hidrovia quando constrói uma ponte baixa. Por isso, quando o Itaú nos convidou para conhecer um programa que ensina a 240 crianças da rede pública de São Paulo como velejar, o Veleja São Paulo, achamos que merecia ser mostrado. Foi muito interessante a reação deles quando contamos que morávamos em um veleiro Aqui na Guarapiranga aprendi a velejar, voltar aqui é sempre nostálgico. Foi aqui também que aprendi o que uma represa, rio ou qualquer outro corpo de água navegável é capaz de fazer com as pessoas. Se a vela foi capaz de me transformar tão profundamente depois de adulto, mudando tanto minhas prioridades na vida. Imagine o que isso tudo pode significar para alguém mais jovem. 5th and final day of the PA Consulting RS Feva European Championships. Day 10 of the RS Games was an emotional one! The final day of the PA Consulting RS Feva European Championships went down to the final race, with three points splitting the top three boats it was a a nerve wracking day! As you looked around at prize giving it was overwhelming clear that the RS Feva Class is incredibly special, from its family teams, 50% boy/girl participation, truely international racing and genuine friends for life. Huge congratualtions to our new European Champions, Tom & Rupert and Pheobe & Rachel! Thank you to PA Consulting Group for your support!!

Yesterday we visited Mount Rushmore but left too late to complete the remainder of our 11 ½ hour road trip. After a later stop in Bismarck, ND we continue on without a hitch. That is until we arrive at the border of Canada. In true to our luck form the border crossing site #10 had unknowingly to us been closed, on the Canadian side, two days prior. Why you might ask? Because they found asbestos in the building. This caused us to retrace our steps South and take a gravel road approximately 20 miles away to the next crossing. At the border they search the car, standard protocol for crossing the border in a car owned by someone else. The border patrol agents were very thorough but polite. Once we get through we reach our final destination. Winnipeg, Manitoba to meet up with some boating friends from Florida. This is just the beginning of The Boat Life, Canadian Edition. A leaky marine head can be a very shitty situation. At one point during our shakedown cruise around Lake Michigan, (thanks to a combination of rollicking seas, a leaky hand pump, and plain ignorance) we ended up with toilet water where it SHOULDN’T be — outside the bowl. Thankfully it was mostly contained in the shower pan, but nevertheless, this experience only confirmed what we had already decided: The marine head and holding tank gotta GO. We take you step-by-step through removing our head and holding tank, unbox our new composting head (the C-Head), and talk about why we picked it over the other popular composting toilet, Nature’s Head.
