In our role of #ATM system supplier for COOPANS Alliance, the leading example in Europe of an industrial partnership with cooperation between multiple air navigation service providers (#ANSP), #Thales provided the site to perform the SESAR3 Joint Undertaking PJ18 4DSkyways real-time simulations at our #SkyLab - France. Our goal is to reduce the controller workload by introducing enhanced conflict detection and resolution tools, both horizontally and vertically, that will, in combination with artificial intelligence, provide ATCOs with a conflict-free trajectory and thus lead to increased safety and capacity. Furthermore, we are proud to be addressing - and even anticipating - the upcoming paradigm shift in the involved operational procedures and working methods by investigating the intensive use of CPDLC complex clearances by the Executive Controller or the Planning Controller which will pave the way for further automation, as well as the integration of EPP monitoring in the #ATCO radar display.

Joël Flinois, Product Line Manager for Thales’s Training & Simulation activity, was among the keynote speakers at a September 2021 European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)/Halldale Group series of talks about Immersive Technologies in Aviation Training. His presentation focused on how helicopter pilot training can benefit from the use of so-called Mixed Reality capabilities, which position real views of cockpit instruments in a fully virtual environment. The online event was part of EASA's ongoing campaign to drive the modernisation of simulators and training devices with a view to integrating new technologies that enable more compact and more affordable systems. Joël Flinois's talk sought to highlight that while VR is well-suited to single pilot light helicopters, an extra dimension is needed when looking forward to the new generation of helicopters that integrate complex avionics systems and touchscreen interfaces.
October 2021 France 3 Auvergne news report focused on the UAS100 long-range drone, featuring footage of the half-scale prototype and interviews with the Thales and Issoire Aviation players involved in setting up the partnership - which progressed from the initial idea to first public flights within the space of just nine months. Video reproduced here courtesy of France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Thales is developing a UAS-based ILS inspection solution to supplement manned flight checks. The ILS solution provides real-time localizer and glide slope measurements that eliminate ground checks, reduce hazardous flight inspection maneuvers, and potentially extend periodic flight check intervals. It’s payload agnostic, satisfies airworthiness requirements, performs high-precision data collection and analysis, and can run cloud-based reporting services. In April 2021, Thales and the Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research Alliance (NUAIR) conducted live trials on runway 10 at Syracuse Hancock International Airport utilizing Thales’ sUAS-based ILS inspection solution for calibration and maintenance of ILS infrastructure.
The air traffic environment faces very high variability and complexity levels, from peak seasons dense traffic to lower uncertain traffic. Only an accurate and reliable information enables Flow Management Position to react soon enough to any traffic demand & capacity imbalances. TopSky - Flow Manager helps FMPs take the smartest decisions to solve traffic imbalance by anticipating the most accurate traffic demand and weather information. #ATFM #TopSkyFlowManager #ATM #ATC #AirTrafficManagement
