Alright everyone! Episode 28 is on and this time we'll let you know a bit about what it takes to prepare for an Arctic expedition. We will be sailing to some of the most remote parts of the planet and beeing self sufficient is mandatory! We will need to get our boat in tip top condition and also we'll step in to some very unfamiliar territory. Guns! And we don't know anything about guns! In order to step on land outside the settlements of Svalbard, we are obliges to be carrying a rifle for Polar Bear protection. So if we want to be able to rent a rifle, we will first have to prove we are able to safely handle a fire arm. Also on this episode, we finish installing our Schenker 60 watermaker, fix our Rutland Wind Generator and some other maintenance jobs. We left Barcelona behind and headed towards Gibraltar, sailing under light winds. But although we thought it would be an uneventfull trip, it turned out very emotional with a lot going on. We have never seen that much marine life in such a short period of time. We also had fresh fish caught under way and in what seemed a short time, we where making landfall in Gibraltar. The whole experience was awesome. Sailing a cat for the first time in open waters and beeing part of a diferent crew, gave us a lot more life baggage for further adventures. And then just after arriving in A Coruña in Spain, we decide to join the crew from SV Joy, a Lagoon 420 Catamaran that will depart from Barcelona and go to the Caribbean. We will give you some insights on the boat and our experience all together! But before we depart, we can´t forget to show you a bit of our time in Spain! Coruña is an amazing town and we had an amazing time there! The food is delicious with all the tapas, and the beer is good and cheap! It was paradise, but all that eating and drinking comes at a cost! We´ll show you our training routine and how we hope not to gain the extra weight from all that eating! We continue our crossing of the infamous Bay of Biscay. All goes really well until it doesn´t anymore. After fixing what was broken we continue sailing in to Spain and finally make landfall after four days and about 500 nautical miles. It is an amazing feeling to acomplish such a journey and we where feeling very proud of ourselves. Spain did not disapoint us but let´s save that for a future episode as there is much more to tell as you see in the very end of the video! After some more rainy days in France, we get some last minute maintenance out of the way, and head out to sea again! As the bad weather in France was not letting us move, we went back to Brazil for a month to work and see family for a bit. It was amazing beeing back on our local beaches, surfing and havimng a great time! As we where there, we heard Captain Bryan, Brady and the whole SV Delos crew had arrived not long ago and where literally in our doorstep! We couldn´t hold ourselves back and went over there to meet them! We had a great time with them, but had to leave soon as there was a lot of work to do and our flight back was getting close. After a great time in Brazil, it was now time to head back and prepare for Biscay! We where really nervous as we had never left Kauana for a whole month sitting on the water unatended. We left Bolougne Sur-Mer and sailed to Cherbourg on this episode. The sail was almost perfect excpet for a strong squall in the midle of the night that scared the sh** out of us. The weather in Cherbourg was horrible and there was no forecast to keep on heading south, so we took our time to fix a bunch of stuff that needed fixing and also eat all the good stuff that France has to offer... Cheese, whine and Baguettes... After geting stuck in Cherbourg for a couple of weeks, the time has come to fly back to Brazil. We had scheduled this flight a long time ago, and although the objective was to have crossed Biscay Bay before that, we didn´t make it that far and had to leave Kauana in Cherbourg. In Brazil we had a lot of work to do, but instead of boring you with all those office hours, we´re showing you the bright side of Brazil, filled with beachlife, roadtrips and all sorts of sports. Somehow it hapened that the Delos crew was actually right at our doorstep and we went on a mission to try and find them, but that´s on the next episode. Thanks for watching guys!! On this episode, we go through a complicated sail all the way in to Calais, in France, right in to the English Chanel. Things get a litle more interesting as we have to wait outside the port until a swinging bridge is opened after the huge tide variation. We enjoy some French breakfast with some Nutella croissants and Larissa gets crazy feeding the seagulls. The weather was so nice that we ended up enjoying the beach and the summer for a litle longer than we should, and things got nasty the next day! We sailed out in to bad storm weather, because the forecast was underestimating things. Also in this episode… We’ll show you how to raise our sails in strong winds putting a reef in the main sail as we do it. We left Germany towards The Hague in Netherlands and we fell in love with the city. Our stay was so incredible that we decided to spend a few more days. In this episode, we overcome our fears and set off in the middle of the night towards the NORTH SEA. The Elbe river showed a little of his power and made the passage the most brutal we’ve ever had. Very strong winds combined with currents, waves and giant ships, for sure it was quite an experience. After, the sailing became so good that we extended our passage further south until we reached the summer in The Hague.
