The weather forecast has been showing limited wind for the past couple of days and many of our sailing friends have been taking the opportunity to motor back to Florida while the ocean is calm. We too are preparing for our crossing, but don't feel the need to be rushed back into reality just yet. We have been slowly making our way across this breathtakingly flat ocean, taking in the absolute unreal beauty of not knowing where the horizon meets the sky, and thinking how surreal it feels to be completely alone in this moment of time. Words truly can't express the feelings we felt on May 10th, 2017. We still can't believe how tremendously remarkable it was for us to go on our epic sailing adventure to The Bahamas and we have felt so blessed to have videos like this one to help remind us of how special and rewarding this journey has been for us. Drive With Me Today I decided to give my Twizy 80 a good wash and cleanup and try to get rid of the dust. I gave the Twizy a run out to Eynsford in Kent. A good 20 Mile round trip but easy on the battery in the summer. It was an enjoyable run but a bird did a big poop onto my windscreen only 30 minutes after washing the car. Thanks ! I recorded the journey with 2 Gopro Session 5, and the very last shot was using an Insta360 One X I recently upgraded the Twizy with a Powerbox V2 and will go into more details in my next Twizy Vlog. I also have made a mains voltage reduction box to allow the Twizy to be charged when the mains is at its peak voltage, and over the 220 vac maxiumum. More details in the next vlog. Well it's been a month at anchor behind Miami South Beach, and the infamous Miami heat (not the basketball team) has arrived. I took some refuge in the air-conditioned gym, but my membership has expired and it's time to head north anyway. Which means I have to reverse the tricky process of sailing through three sets of bridges while managing rather swift tidal currents. Once out into Biscayne Bay, I have only to wait for a favorable wind shift to head offshore for the Chesapeake Bay. We sailed our last bit to Lakka on the north end of Paxos. Spent some nights on anchor and experienced our first thunderstorm passing by. Seemed a bit scary with this metal mast pointing to the sky. We did not research what to do when that happens and our data plan ran out. So we basically freaked out and wanted to go home. Instead we stayed on the boat and filmed parts of it. After a thrillingly close finish, Harm Müller-Spreer’s Platoon crew clinched the first regatta title of the 2019 52 SUPER SERIES season, winning in Menorca by one single point this afternoon. Second placed Provezza, who led into the last race, missed out on the overall win by just four seconds. Platoon finished strongly, super consistent tactician John Kostecki pushing the risk-reward equation more through the second half of the eight race series. Armed with excellent all-round speed across the event’s varied wind conditions – from six to 18 knots – Platoon delivered a 2,2,1 from the last three races to narrowly eclipse Ergin Imre’s Provezza. It is Platoon’s first regatta title since they won the Rolex TP52 World Championship in 2017 in Scarlino, Tuscany. Had Provezza only been able to close down Bronenosec in the final sprint to the finish line of the last race today, then it would have been a different story. But the Turkish-flagged team have to be content with their significant improvements on what was a barren 2018 season when compared to their 2017 season, when they were regular podium contenders and won the Puerto Portals regatta. It is a welcome one-two for designs from the Judel/Vrolijk design studio, the first time in the eight year history of the 52 SUPER SERIES that Judel/Vrolijk designs have taken both top spots. The defending champions Quantum Racing could not continue a 2,1,1 momentum over the previous two days, and with a seventh and sixth today, Doug DeVos’s crew finish third. Koh Racha Noi is a uninhabited island about 20nm away from Phuket, Thailand. Many day tourists come swim in the clear water, snorkel over the nice shallow corals formations and enjoy its beautiful white sand spit. Before they arrive around 10am and after they leave by 4pm, this paradise is accessible to our Sailing Schipperkes and what better place than this to continue they training of our 3 puppies! Life is full of opportunity… and just when I needed it, the door opened and in walked Alex Blue from Delos. She brought me so much joy during a week-long double-handed sailing adventure (just her and me). It was magic! Not long after she returned to Delos. She reached out to me to pass along a request. The Sailing yacht Hurrah (Oyster 65) was about to depart from the Caribbean for Newport RI. Her captain and crew wanted to have some fun along the way and was looking for someone with good vibes who would be reliable for night watches to join them — ME! Here I am, a crew member on a stunning sailing yacht, about to sail up the east coat of the United States. Wow, how cool is that :) I’m feeling deeply grateful for this life. The good news is that I will be a much better sailor in a few weeks. The bad news is that I will not have access to wifi and our episodes will be a bit erratic until I return to the world of internet connectivity. Thank you for your patience and support. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. We were also very sad to see the destruction caused by hurricane Irma to the BVI s. We saw first hand the devastating aspects of this catastrophic event in this beautiful place. SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners. The Nordic Tugs 42 design is one of the most popular versions of this very capable trawler tug. Nordic Quest, hull 117, is well into the production run and she benefits from many of the improvements developed by her predecessor sister ships. She is a two stateroom and two head boat. Nordic Quest is operated from the raised pilothouse, so you are up high and forward in the boat with a commanding view. There are opening doors port and starboard for convenient access to outdoors. The visibility is excellent in all directions. Smart Plug shore power connections are just outside the starboard pilothouse door. Behind the comfortable Llebroc helm chair is a bench seat area for guests and crew to take in the surroundings making it easy for the family to be involved with underway activities. The navigation display panels are installed overhead and forward and there are two large Furuno displays. The helm dash area has a clever tilt up access panel for inspection and servicing wires and the steering system. The engine control is single lever and you have a bow thruster joystick.
