It's hard to top the enchanting Indian River we explored in last week's episode but our discovery of an incredible waterfall just inland from our anchorage here in Dominica might be the islands best surprise yet. It's our last bit of tropical jungle exploration before setting off on a short sail to the nearby French island of Iles des Saintes of Guadeloupe. In contrast to Dominica, on Iles des Saintes we find a quaint main town filled with French restaurants and shops. Once there, we load Calico Skies up with wine and cheese and then have a good ole time searching for wifi on the nearby beach resorts. This week we have the boatyard back out to the boat to continue with the painting of the coach-house repair. If you recalled a couple of months ago, we had done some repairs to the support wall inside and had the boatyard plane some of the old fiberglass off and then lay new glass up to the coach house wall and onto the roof. Then I put the port in, and we wanted to ensure that the leak had stopped before we had them come back out again and paint. They came out and prepared and painted the first coat on the surface. It needs a second coat yet, but progress is happening for sure. I will also share that I gained a few pounds while off the boat and up here in New Jersey. So, I went back to my 'tried and true' where I am making smoothies and having them as breakfast replacements a couple of times a week. I have a great and simple recipe that is easy to make, and I share it in this weeks episode. Additionally, we go on a tour of a small organic farm where I pick fresh berries for the smoothies. This farm belongs to my aunt and it was cool to go visit it again as I have not been there in about 40 years. Thanks for watching everyone!! We finally leave La Paz for the last time and make our way towards Cabo San Lucas which is where we will check out of Mexico for good. On the way we take the last opportunity to clean Nutshell’s hull before we embark on the South Pacific Crossing. Cabo San Lucas is a heaving town, with loud music, party boats and plenty of people. Eco-friendly antifouling Q&A with Capt. Brian and Senor Brady. We sit down and discuss the results of our eco-friendly antifouling experiment. Brian starts off with a little recap of what we did during our haul out in Grenada, and why we made the decision to try and find a paint that did not rely on traditional antifouling agents. We show the results of Delos sitting at 3 weeks, 5 weeks, and 7 weeks without moving, and compare those results to boats around us with hard copper, ablative copper, homemade copper-epoxy, and copper coat. Finally we scrub the bottom clean and start sailing regularly again and show how the effects of water over the hull make a difference in the growth on Delos’s hull.
