Hello friends, It's been awhile. The Starship Friendship vanished suddenly into almost complete silence. A rogue wave and very long story was unfolding beneath the waves. Novel times indeed. That tale is more than I can share now. But this video has been awaiting release for some time. This episode was produced while I was crewing aboard sailing vessel Hurrah. Almost all of the raw footage captured along our journey was safely stored aboard the Starship many miles away. The footage on my laptop was all I had to work with. This episode is about our Christmas in the Caribbean. A small chapter of our journey held up until now. There are still many great sailing stories resting within the old footage and I hope to revisit them someday. For now, this is it... Out of chronological sequence - yet set for the season. Surprise and happy holidays! Original description: We didn't do anything cool this week ;) Unless you think crashing cruiser parties, stalking the anchorage, and dancing to rad and funky songs is cool. We had a little fun and hope you will enjoy it too. The reality is, it would have been way more entertaining it I had filmed the aftermath! This is boat life, sailing life, and all that crazy awesomeness that happens when you least expect it. If you want to crash a cruisers' beach party, visit Martinique... listen to the cruiser net broadcasts, and show up uninvited! They will love you. Live, love & Sail Season Alpha Big shout out to those of you who encouraged us to do this, and especially to our first Patreons who have been so inspiring and encouraging! Barbuda's Frigate Bird Colony is the largest in the western hemisphere. Located in the capital of Barbuda, in the large Codrington Lagoon, it is only accessible by boat with a tour guide. In this episode we explore this natural paradise with George, a knowledgeable local host and guide. The Frigate birds nest here and travel between the Caribbean and the Galapagos islands. It's a relatively short sail from Antigua to Barbuda. Visitors also Fly-in by helicopter or plane. Ask for George around Cordinton or find another guide to take you on a small boat tour of the sanctuary which contains over 170 species of birds in addition to the more than 5,000 Frigate birds. The Barbuda Frigate Bird Sanctuary has an estimated population of 100,000 birds. Episode 42 Season Alpha -- ........................................

It's the off-season and Barbuda is about as chill as it gets--we love it! Codrington is the main town on the island, which is part of the country of Antigua and Barbuda. The town was founded by Christopher Codrington in 1685. The entire island was evacuated in September 2017 after damage caused by Hurricane Irma. Today it is still recovering from the storm, but maintains a rich culture and remarkable natural beauty. In this episode we search out provisions, find George to book a trip to the Frigate rookery and confirm that the guard dogs at the ruins of a local resort are indeed ferocious! Barbuda is one of the 2 major islands of the Caribbean nation Antigua and Barbuda. It is known for its pink- and white-sand beaches like reef-lined Spanish Point, and North Beach. In Codrington Lagoon, there is a Frigate Bird Sanctuary. Codrington, is laid-back little island village. Area: 61.99 mi² Elevation: 125' Population: c. 100 (formerly 1,638) (2017) Largest settlement: Codrington In this Episode, we explore the secluded beaches of Barbuda, and snorkel and enjoy the peace and tranquility of Coco beach. There's a high-end beach resort on the south side, that looks awesome. It's mostly incredible tents with a central bar, pool and dinner space. There's an open air gym, all kinds of sport toys, and cool bonfire pits set up at ideal spots along the otherwise untouched beach. Guests fly in on a seaplane. They are picked up by a boat that can drive onto the beach. The manager says they opened in January. They are selling lots and plan to develop the beach. We swam to an outside reef and the snorkeling was pretty good. The wind was light and the swell was pickling up, wrapping unobstructed around the entire island. We're rocked on our anchor with the sound of the waves crashing on the distant beach. After a few days in heaven, we fired up the engine and motor-yachted to the main village. One the way, we practiced setting up the spinnaker pole and cruised comfortably down-wind, wing-to-wing! Music: Be Svendsen Episode 40 Season Alpha

It might just have been another exercise, but it was a surprise to all but our sneaky captain. Good to know we can rescue a fender buoy pretty easily. Once that chore was done, we settled into a nice four hour sail from Antigua to Barbuda. Arriving later in the afternoon we opted for a safe and simple anchorage. It was a good spot for many reasons; the seaplanes, beach horses, kiteboarding, and epic sunsets were spectacular. In our next episode we explore the town and then the Frigate rookery. So much good stuff to come! SPECIAL MESSAGE: David and I are both going back to work. It usually takes me about two hours per minute to edit these videos. So, while we have another year of sailing content with the best still to come, I won't be able to dedicate so much time to the project. Don't worry, the videos won't stop, but they will get shorter and/or miss a Sunday from time to time. Before setting sail from Antigua to Barbuda, Bermuda, and then Newport, we do last minute provisioning. The trip takes about half a day to Barbuda, five days to Bermuda and four days to Newport. We must plan emergencies and the entire journey. Since veggies are our favorite (we're a mostly vegetation boat) getting to the farmers market is essential. Once the big chores are done, we do some precooking and make a few extra snacks. By the end of our day of running errands, we are ready to sail! On the Hook for Crew Overboard, Kitesurfing & Beach Cleanup Heads up, the man overboard stuff is just for entertainment. We're not good enough at it to be instructive :) After a sporty sail from Falmouth Harbor to Green Island Antigua we set anchor and settle into a few days of fun. First effort, kiteboarding! Craig practices on his foil while the pros zoom around us. It's a lot of fun. The beach and island are beautiful. We do a little #noMOOP cleanup to keep it that way. After some sun and exploration it's time for lunch aboard Hurrah. Our plan is to sail from Antigua to Barbuda, Bermuda and Newport RI. We spend a lot of time preparing the boat and ourselves. Safety is essential and so is practicing key safety protocol. While on the hook, we set up and rehearse our Man/Crew Overboard plan. We go through unconscious and conscious rescue scenarios. We hope you will enjoy our Green Island visit as much as we did! * If you'd like to sail aboard SY Hurrah, contact Oyster to arrange a charter. Doesn't look like Starship does it? That's because it is not. While David returns to his office to work, Kellie has set off on a special sailing adventure. Life is full of opportunity? and just when I needed it, the door opened and in walked Alex Blue from Delos. She brought me so much joy during a week-long double-handed sailing adventure (just her and me). It was magic! Not long after she returned to Delos. She reached out to me to pass along a request. The Sailing yacht Hurrah (Oyster 65) was about to depart from the Caribbean for Newport RI. Her captain and crew wanted to have some fun along the way and was looking for someone with good vibes who would be reliable for night watches to join them - ME! Here I am, a crew member on a stunning sailing yacht, about to sail up the east coat of the United States. Wow, how cool is that :) I'm feeling deeply grateful for this life. The good news is that I will be a much better sailor in a few weeks. The bad news is that I will not have access to wifi and our episodes will be a bit erratic until I return to the world of internet connectivity. Thank you for your patience and support. Big shout out to the handful of Patreons who have supported this project. We don't make enough to pay for the data we use - yet - but the emotional support and encouragement is incredibly motivating. THANK YOU! AND thank you all for watching, commenting, sharing, and subscribing. And thanks to David making our sailing dreams possible and for all the salty characters we've met along the way, some of whom are now like family. Live, Love and Sail

Do you like to plan your sailing trips or just go where the winds take you? It seems like every time we have an agenda, the weather suggests otherwise. With a little flexibility however, magic always seems to find us. In this episode, we sail up and down the coast of Martinique in search of a perfect anchorage. What we find are some great people and an invite to a cruisers' beach pot luck. Access to markets is a challenge, but we get lucky as usual and find what we need just in time to enjoy some lobster diving! Things have a way of working out when you are sailing, yachting, on a dinghy adventure, or just enjoying some time seaside. This is what sailing life is like. It's what being on the water full-time is like. It's boat life in Martinique. Live, love & Sail Episode 35 Season Alpha Music: Ludovico Einaudi LOVE STARSHIP FRIENDSHIP? Living aboard a sailboat is one of the coolest experiences we've shared. It's our home and just like a house or apartment, it requires maintenance. We spend a part of every day doing chores and upkeep. In this episode we find AND fix a problem, go for a casual dinghy adventure and stop briefly in the biggest city in the windward islands. We edited this episode to capture and share the vibe of sailboat life. It's calming and relaxed, just like our life aboard the Starship (most of the time). We hope it will give you a sense of what it's like to cruise around Martinique in the Caribbean. Live, love & Sail Episode 34 Season Alpha LOVE STARSHIP FRIENDSHIP? ABANDONED YACHTS EVERYWHERE -- Ever experience a hurricane? Wonder why sailors flee to "hurricane holes" or far north or south to escape danger? Think you can weather the storm? Think again... In this episode we tour the wreckage of yachts caught and killed by nature's fury. Martinique - This French island keeps a lot of the character of her motherland with French villages, each with their own little church, scattered throughout the island. Hypermarkets, fashion boutiques, and cafes are easy to find - even in tiny costal villages. Mountainous, with and black and white sand beaches and numerous safe harbors, Martinique offers easy cruising for sailing enthusiasts. Christofer Columbus landed here in 1502 and commented that Martinique is the best, most fertile and most charming spot in the world, and that his eyes could never tire of contemplating such lush greenery. At the northern end of the island, which is only 19 miles in total length, is mount Pele'e - a volcano with recent and devastating action. In 1902 it erupted, killing nearly every inhabitant of the city capital Saint Piere below. A mixture of lava and superheated gases and vapor wiped out almost 30,000 inhabitants almost instantly leaving the capital is ruins Highlights of our visit include visiting the Clement rum distillery, exploring the windward side by elective moke, cleaning up a historic coastal trail, and exploring the surf, sand, and entertainment with friends and family. After sailing from France along the Euro-Atlantic coast to Gibraltar, then to Tangier, Madeira, Savage, Canaries, and Cape Verde, across the Atlantic Ocean to Saint Lucia, now we are in the Caribbean, ready to explore paradise. Our first mission is to Martinique, to an isolated anchorage where navigation is sketchy and the holding is unreliable. We didn't fully appreciate how uncomfortable we would be there, but we made the best of it and did some exploring anyway. After one restless night, we sailed to Saint Anne's and said goodbye to our wonderful friends and family crew. Time to cruise the Caribbean! Just the two of us. Inside the Starship This is a follow up to our EXTERIOR TOUR (https://youtu.be/lfh_AmYKZLs). In this video we take you inside the Starship Friendship! From just a year ago to today our lives have changed dramatically. After selling all the material things we had worked so hard for, we bought our catamaran and set sail to see the world. So far, we've covered thousands of miles, learned to sail, seen things from a special perspective, and enjoyed living in our ocean home. We hope you will enjoy our interior tour. Don't forget to watch the exterior tour too! https://youtu.be/lfh_AmYKZLs Welcome aboard the Starship! Buying the Starship was the smartest move we made in this process. There are new boats and old boats and the time between to make adventure happen is precious. We wanted to set sail right away? and we needed to have a parachute (just in case all our dreams were really just wishes). Turns out, we love this life, just like we knew we would, and we love our boat too.  We have lived aboard our boat for almost a year. Life is much different today that it was back then. At the beginning of our journey, we had some tough choices to make about our boat/home purchase. Originally, we were looking at blue water monohulls, but the boats in our price range needed surveys and survey reports suggested a lot of work and time on the hard. In the end, we decided to buy a Lagoon Catamaran. We didn't know each other very well and we had limited sailing experience. It seemed wise to buy a manageable and popular boat that would be easy to learn on and (just in case) in demand if we decided to sell. It turns out that the Starship is awesome and we love her.
