Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. She's happy to be back in the water and first we go to Town Basin Marina, which is lovely! Then more fun - Kawau, Wahake iskands, Rongitoto volcano and Auckland! For couple of nights Westhaven marina - the biggest marina in Southern Hemisphere becomes Aquarius home. We say "au revoir' to our friend and begin our journey up north towards Opua, stopping in Marsden bay Marina and finally checking out and leaving beautiful New Zealand for Fiji. Join us! Our water pump died so we find a well on one of the islands to wash up and clean ourselves. The water has a bit of a taste to it but we dont care so I grab a 100 litres so we can live another week or so on the boat. Margarida is spearing more fish and catches us all dinner as well as getting us some coconuts for a treat. We also rig up a slackline. We come back down from Scotland to London then the south to the coast of Dover and onto the ferry to France. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a camper in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

In this episode we voyage north from Morehead City, NC, up Adam's Creek, and into the Neuse River/Pamlico Sound waterway. While traversing the Neuse I have some time to organize my thoughts and to think about what works needs to be done on the boat to equip it to fulfill our dream: 1.) safety issues- having an emergency tiller extension fabricated so that it can reach the cockpit 2.) anchoring & marina life- a windlass and a new anchor base, refrigeration connected into battery bank, water tanks, water heater, et. 3.) traveling and cruising more effectively- lines leading to cockpit for mainsail and reef points, anchoring the baby stay, dinghy motor, etc. Watch and see if I have forgotten anything! VIDEO KEY POINTS Make sure your mask is tempered glass, and not acrylic. Most masks are tempered and will have the text “Tempered” written in small font somewhere on the glass itself. Move the flame over the entire surface of the mask without staying in one spot for too long. If the glass gets too hot to touch remove the flame until it cools down or else you run the risk of damaging the rubber skirt. Fog and soot are normal and can be washed out later with baby shampoo and water. Repeat the burning process if your mask continues to fog up on your dive or snorkel.

Unique diving around the Galapagos Islands. Watching the wall of hammerhead sharks in Wolf and Darwin was one of the most impressive experience I ever had. To play with the sealions is so much fun. To be honest, the whole experience over- and underwater is worth the effort like cold water, crazy currents and all the money spend. Rescue on the Reef ! In this episode we rescue some local fishermen who have been stranded overnight out on the reef . We help them to fix their outboard engine and send them safely on their way. We arrive in Port Denerau and are invited to a random kava session after chatting to a local villager on the bus. We reprovision at the local markets in Nadi and treat ourselves to a Mojito and a curry in one of the posh marina restaurants. We take you to Pulau Asu, one of our top destinations in the western islands of Sumatra, where we spend a few days with Mama Silvi in her family-run beach home. She was there when both the tsunami and then more earthquakes hit the island in 2004/5 with some interesting geological results. As you'll see from the footage this is a rather special place. Hoffmann's Cay Blue Hole is probably one of the coolest Blue Holes in the world!! This blue hole is in the Berry Islands in the Bahamas and we spent the day hanging in the shade of the cave, jumping off the small cliff, and even diving with a turtle!!
