After looking around for quite some time we finally find a tinny at the right price and go ahead and purchase it. We need an aluminium boat for The Kimberley. Unfortunately Peanut 2 won't survive a crocodile attack! Magnus takes the new tinny for a test and discovers that it is riddled with holes! So, it gets a great deal of TLC over the next few days. Then it’s time to re-launch it to test that everything is OK. What happens next is very unexpected and quite scary! We are sailing back to Lanzarote and firstly visit Marina Puerto Calero. Then we carry on to Arrecife and are having a look at the island's capital. Furtheron we are sailing to Caleto del Sebo on La Graciosa. Time has stood still on this island and we can enjoy a little of the original primeval nature of the Canary Islands. After sailinmg back to Marina Rubicon we take a rental car and are having a look at the inner part of the island. Amazingly, very good wine thrives on Lanazarote. Of course, we also pay a visit to the Timanfaya National Park and the house of César Manrique. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. 25 - 30 KNOT WINDS and 10 FOOT WAVES as we CROSS THE GULF STREAM! This week our world sailing adventure begins in earnest as we leave the United States for the forseeable future and head for the Bahamas! We had a narrow weather window to hit to avoid being delayed by another week to 10 days and the forecast looked lively but good. However, as the Gulf Stream has a tendency to do, it took us for a ride! After flying here a few days before, I went back to the same place a little later in the day, in the hopes of finding good onshore wind, to generate good soaring conditions for paragliding. My family dropped me off at the top of the cliff, and as the road down is very rough and we only had a simple rental car this time, I didn't know how I would get back up, when I took off. The paragliding flight itself is a full, almost uncut video, so you can really enjoy the authentic flight experience. I fly along the amazing cliffs in the Fazayah Bay, and really enjoy the fascinating view of them. At the end of the flight I land on the deserted beach and then hope I will be able to come back up again to the top of the cliff, where my family is waiting. Fazayah Bay in Oman is an amazing spot for paragliding. And the possibility of landing on a deserted beach after the flight, makes it all the more special. Well, here it is....our first video, Ep. 1 as we are ready to leave California, our friends, family, school, the community and town we love so much and head to Florida to await the arrival of our sailing catamaran and the start of a sailing experience of a lifetime! 3 years ago we sat down as a family and shared a dream that we all wanted to see come true. A dream that we take a window of time in our lives to do something truly special together, an extended sailing trip, an adventure that would stay with us till the end of our time. To laugh, and explore, to learn and grow as individuals and as family. To strengthen our bond respect and appreciation for one another. We went to lots of boat shows, looked at and sailed many different brands and types of boats in search of the one that we would call our new floating home, one that would safely and comfortably take us across oceans to new destinations filled with new languages, foods, cultures, religions, traditions. We pinned our dream on a board (we named it our Dream Board) that we would all see everyday as we came or left our home. We put a timeline, dates, thresholds we needed to meet in order to make the dream a reality. For us, identifying the boat, a Leopard 45 sailing catamaran, built solid, sleek, comfortable,…..truly a beautifully designed boat is what made it all feel “real”, as if we had just put a flag in the ground, focusing all our energy and passion towards our ultimate goal. A reminder that life is short, that seasons, weeks, months and years would pass and that it was up to us to make our dream a reality. And with that…….here we are, packed up and ready to go! We’ll able to look back on our "Dream Board" and honestly say “we did it”! There are lots of unknowns and new experiences ahead. In this episode we prepare for Hurricane Dorian. We spend the days leading up to the storm planning - First by scoping out protected anchorages, and then by considering how best to manage potential storm scenarios. Besides just storm strength alone, there are several variables at play with the trickiest being wind direction which is predicted to shift significantly over the course of the storm. Die anspruchsvollsten Abschnitte über die Alpen (Innsbruck – Brenner) kann man mit der Bahn abkürzen und die Strecke von Toblach nach Cortina D’Ampezzo auf dem Radweg entlang der einstigen Bahntrasse ohne Schwierigkeiten radeln. Die letzten zwei Tage geht es bergab und flach dem Meer entgegen.

Weiter geht’s es dann an den wunderschönen Kreidefelsen vorbei nach Hiddensee. Dazu aber mehr in Folge 3.
