Remote and beautiful. The Solomon Islands are part of the coral triangle, and hosts an incredible biodiversity, however, it surprisingly remains one of the least dived areas of the world. After visiting chief Raymonds village, and after having the children bombard the boat, we set sail to find our next dive destination. Leru cut. The most well-known dive site in the Solomon Islands. This canyon cuts almost 100 meters into Leru Island, and with the walls rising high above the waterline, the light beams shine into the chasm. We quickly found we were in for a treat. Introducing: Spica! A Norlin 34 that was specifically designed to sail the famous Gotland Runt race in 1977. Andy needed to sail the boat from Herräng Marina down to Rosättra, a part of the Baltic archipelago North of Stockholm. We sailed from Katákolo, at the mainland of Greece, to Keri at the island Zakynthos, and from there to the famous Shipwreck Bay, that we had all for ourselves, and without the notorious swell! ✍️Il fait encore nuit, l’épais ukungu bouche toute la plaine et le froid vivifie nos visages encore un peu ensommeillés, mais nous étions réveillés bien avant notre alarme matinale, d’ailleurs, Tchoupi s’est levé au moins trois fois pour être sûr d’avoir rechargé tous ses appareils vidéo ! Trop excité par le programme de notre journée qui va nous mener à deux cent kilomètres, au Mkomazi national Park, puis au pied de ce massif volcanique aux neiges éternelles, le Kilimandjaro ! Par la piste ocre et bossuée de notre arrivée, notre chauffeur, prudemment rebrousse chemin ! Pas le choix, celle que nous devions emprunter aujourd’hui est impraticable depuis la dernière mousson. L’aube se lève, les habitants s’activent, les enfants en bord de route marchent vers leur école, la vie est partout et par nos fenêtres, l’Afrique défile ! Nous roulons vers notre « voyage », traduit en swahili par notre « safari » ! Voir la vie sauvage en vrai ! Nous l’avons déjà côtoyé il y a quelques années en Afrique du Sud et quel privilège de pouvoir l’approcher de nouveau ! Sous l’effet de l’aride chaleur, l’air qui remonte du sol semble trembler ! Dans notre véhicule, au pas, tous aux aguets, nous scrutons la brousse couleur savane qui s’étend sur plus de trois mille cinq cent kilomètres carré. L’incertitude de voir l’animal a quelque chose de palpitant, de fascinant. Nous pistons, écoutons avec attention, la quête nous fait vibrer, à qui l’attribution de la première détection ? Attentive aux moindres frémissements, derrière le pare-brise poussiéreux, je me languie, mon cœur s’emballe et comme touchée par la grâce, la première créature se manifeste ! L’apparition est brève mais nous l’avons tous vu et sa robe gris roux recouverte de fines rayures blanches sur ses flancs nous aide à l’identifier, c’est un koudou ! Ça y est, nos yeux se familiarisent, ajustent leurs recherches, s’accordent à faire la bonne mise au point et nous en voyons de plus en plus…. En plus grand nombre viennent les zèbres tout de noir et de blanc vêtus, puis c’est au tour des girafes et de leurs coups démesurés de nous émerveiller, les impalas, gazelles, babouins et voilà l’éléphant, majestueux de puissance ! Mais nous n’allons pas nous mentir, celui que nous voulons tous voir, celui sur lequel nous sommes sur les traces, celui qui est vénéré dans toute l’Afrique, ce félin, ce fauve emblématique, ce carnassier de la jungle, c’est le Roi Lion ! Nous le savons ici, quelque part, lui nous a certainement entendu, très probablement vu aussi, mais c’est lui qui décide, et aujourd’hui, le souverain se camoufle et nous ne verrons pas l’ombre de sa crinière ! Devant la calotte glacière sommitale de la montagne étincelante, l’assommante route ne peut avoir raison de notre enthousiasme ! Le mont Kilimandjaro nous fait l’honneur d’avoir dévoilé son blanc manteau. Nous recevons cette immense faveur comme une offrande de la nature, le symbole de l’Afrique empreint nos mémoires ! D’ici, nous sommes qu’à quelques kilomètres de ce sommet, le plus haut de ce vieux continent, dans la municipalité de Moshi, un des plus grands centres touristiques de la Tanzanie. Isa et Charly, ont réservé au Rau Eco, une organisation fondée par trois jeunes de la région, complètement en adéquation avec les valeurs de Vaolo. Du haut de leurs vingt ans, ils prônent la sauvegarde de notre planète et font partager leur passion en faisant découvrir leur forêt qu’ils protègent avec ferveur ou encore leurs rizières qu’ils défendent avec dévotion. Dans un respect admirable, cette jeunesse consciente de l’ulcération qui ronge notre Terre, se bat tous les jours, en éduquant, en soignant, en replantant et en essayant de bâtir un monde plus beau pour leurs enfants. Immergés dans ce sanctuaire des esprits de la forêt, on ne peut qu’être sensible à la générosité sans limite de la création. Les Colobus guereza en sont témoins ! Leur environnement s’amenuise et pourtant, n’est-ce pas lui qui fournit les herbes médicinales, la nourriture, l’air pur, l’eau douce, les sols sains ? Les Hommes ont-ils perdu la tête pour détruire sans se soucier de l’avenir ? Les chaggas, peuple bantou vivant en contreforts du Kilimandjaro eux aussi en sont conscients. Isolés dans leurs villages, ils cultivent dans les traditions et simplement, protégés par les bienfaits de la cascade Materani prennent soin de ce Monde ! No this is not a repeat of an earlier video, sadly it is another example of how not to go downwind in a big breeze. Call it what you like, a, Chinese gybe, an uncontrolled gybe or a death roll. What ever you choose to call it, it's never fun to wipe out like this. The team of GTR was leader the heat 7 for the 2020 Frosties regatta when a puff of close to 30 knots caught up with the crew on the first downwind leg. At first it looks like Team GTR had been able to save it after the initial gust hit. Sadly they did not have enough sheet tension to keep things on the straight and narrow. The relief was only temporary, 10 seconds later the Chinese Gybe could not be avoided with a slow roll which broke the spinnaker pole. I am happy to report that everyone on Team GTR made it a shore safely, even the mast man that tried to hope off just before the wipe out looking like he was more interested in taking a bath than help the crew recover from the uncontrolled gybe. Usually a days racing with an outcome like this would get me down, after the year we have had in 2020 no one was complaining. Much better to be out sailing even if you wipe out rather than sitting at home in a COVID lockdown. Thanks for watching another Bottom Up Boats production.

(il y a un peu de vent au début mais ça se calme). Petite anecdote: quand j'ai eu terminé la chanson, quelques personnes s'étaient attroupé dans le sentier et tous m'ont demandé de rejouer une autre chanson! Sailing ORIZON - Segeln im Mittelmeer... Die nächsten Tage stehen die Inseln Ithaka und Kefalonia auf dem Plan. Aber es kommt anders... Am Abend in der Vathi-Bucht bei Ithaka checkt Andi die Wind- und Wettervorhersage und entdeckt ein sehr großes Tief, dass die nächsten Tage auf die ionischen Inseln treffen soll. Die Windgeschwindigkeiten in Böen werden mit über 100 Knoten angegeben, die Zugrichtung über Kefalonia und Zakhyntos. Ithaka scheint uns nun nicht mehr so klug und wir ziehen wieder nach Lefkas in die sehr schöne Bucht Ormos Desimi. Wir beobachten weiter den Windy und laut diesem entwickelt sich das Sturmtief zu einem Medicane! Das ganze sieht heftig aus und so beschließen wir spontan vor diesem Ding zu flüchten. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The islands of Ithaca and Kefalonia are on the agenda for the next few days. But it turns out differently ... In the evening in Vathi Bay near Ithaca, Andi checks the wind and weather forecast and discovers a very large low that will hit the Ionian Islands over the next few days. The wind speeds in gusts are given as over 100 knots, the direction of pull over Kefalonia and Zakhyntos. Ithaca doesn't seem so smart to us anymore and we move back to Lefkas in the very beautiful bay Ormos Desimi. We continue to watch the Windy and according to this the storm low develops into a Medicane! The whole thing looks violent and so we spontaneously decide to flee from this thing.
