After repairing our cracked and broken rudder and filling osmotic blisters on our skeg it's time to dry fit the rebuilt rudder. This rudder weighs a TON and is not easy to move around, let alone lift straight up. It's time to get the rudder installed on our sailboat for the last time. This involves fitting the gudgeon or shoe and checking the bolts that will support the rudder on the skeg. We are a family preparing to sail around the world in our electric sailboat. A really exciting hike, with some spots of rope-supported climbs. Unfortunately we experienced fog on top of the mountain-range. Nevertheless we enjoyed this trip a lot.

We leave Exmouth and continue to head north, past Carnarvon and end up at Karratha and the second brewery of the drive across the top of Australia the North West Brewing Company. The roads are very empty and there aren’t many people around. It’s hot in this area of Australia and many of the caravaners and RVers headed south long before we started heading north. In this episode we visit the island of Amorgos in the Cyclades. We hire a scooter and visit the Chora. After a trip round the island the scooter we have hired breaks down in the middle of nowhere! We eventually get a replacement brought out to us and go diving around a ship in Shipwreck bay which was featured in the film "The Big Blue". This was a week to remember !! After a few days of preparation on the Sophisticated Lady, the arrangement of small and large things to make the boat suitable for navigation (things of everyday life as in a normal sedentary family home) and the efficient and functioning navigation tools, we were able surf the waves of the sea !! Great success 🎉🎊🎉 !!!! As always, there are some unexpected events, setbacks and inconveniences to be faced but the emotion and joy, after months and months, of being able to have the opportunity and the freedom to raise the anchor and unfold the sails is priceless! .. The wind conditions, from 17 to 20 knots, and the beautiful sea !! The sun to light up our day. Great output: sailing only for the passion of sailing without a precise destination !! This is our great spirit .. finally re-emerged after a long mandatory hibernation !! Great desire for freedom and to feel alive !!! Our lady has behaved very well !! Worthy of its name !! We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. In this episode, we are preparing our boat to receive its new keel, but that doesn't mean a simple sanding here and there... it means a lot of breaking and removing of big pieces that will need to be rebuilt before the new keel gets installed. Removing the rudder was quite an adventurous activity. Nobody got hurt, but don't try this at home.
