The spectacle of an AC75 at speed in flight is breathtaking but to learn to fly these boats at speeds that have rarely been achieved has meant that teams have had to climb a near vertical learning curve. The technology is new, as is the concept and even the language that the crew use to communicate, so how do the crews handle an AC75? Matt Sheahan talks to foiling supremo, multiple world champion, former America's Cup sailor, Olympic gold medallist....you get the idea....Nathan Outteridge who has been studying these boats and the way that they are sailed since they were first launched here in Auckland. It's a fascinating insight, in fact so good that we have made the feature in two parts as we simply couldn't bear to leave any of it out. We had to get back to doing a few boat jobs after all of our fun and frivolity of last episode and we introduce what we think is our biggest investment on the boat yet… a Hydrovane. Adam has been raving about this piece of gear for at least two years and it’s been on our upgrade list since then but as usual, there was always something more important to do first! Until now. So after a building a template for a fabricator to make up and then receiving a fantastic hand me down chart plotter and radar (unfortunately with broken cables) we were stuck in a bit of a holding pattern, waiting on the next step or parts to arrive… so the only thing to do was to go for a spearfish! And for once, we (Adam) actually caught ourselves a little feed! História do Veleiro Lumar 2021 Finalmente compramos um veleiro, já faz tempo que estávamos buscando um que no agradasse tanto pela segurança como estado de conservação e que ao mesmo tempo fosse viável em nosso orçamento. Acreditamos que nada é por acaso, na nossa última investida conhecemos o Leandro que virou um grande amigo, ex dono do Fenix, um Thaiti 16 que nos chamou muita atenção porém ainda não era o momento certo, além de não termos todo o valor proposto estava começando a pandemia e era nosso primeiro mês morando de fato em Florianópolis. Neste primeiro contato com o pessoal da vela de Florianópolis conhecemos também o Luis, outro amigo que já velejava bastante na lagoa da Conceição a bordo do veleiro Santa Fé cujo dono Walter iríamos conhecer mais tarde. No final não fechamos o negócio com o Leandro, porém a amizade era inevitável, as semelhanças entre o nosso estilo de vida e a dele eram muitas. O tempo passou o Leandro vendeu o Thaiti e a nossa busca por veleiros não parava. A cada semana fazíamos uma boa pesquisa nos anúncios atrás do melhor negócio e também, alguns amigos, às vezes, apareciam com uma ou outra oportunidade. Nesse contexto surgiu o LUMAR, um veleiro com história e muito robusto ideal para nossa necessidade. Logo entramos em contato com o Faustino, o então dono do Lumar e marcamos uma visita. Primeiramente vimos o barco na marina do Lessa e gostamos muito, ele estava em uma carreta de encalhe atrás de uns barcos maiores em reforma fazendo com que o pequeno Lumar quase não aparecesse. O Faustino fez questão de nos mostrar todas as qualidades que o barco possuía além de contar histórias de navegadas incríveis do Lumar . Como no dia da visita ao barco, o motor e algumas velas extras, não estavam lá, no dia seguinte, marcamos de nos encontrar na casa do Faustino com a ideia de analisar os equipamentos que faltavam e já aproveitar e contar um pouco da nossa também. A partir de então já estávamos sentindo que o Lumar era o veleiro que estávamos procurando. Após uma negociação chegamos a um bom acordo entre as partes e foi então que uma semente brotou. Exatamente no dia 15-01-2021 pela manhã foi feito o contrato de compra e venda. Agora era oficial, tínhamos um veleiro... mas não ia ser tão simples, pois deveríamos baixar o mastro e colocar ele em um caminhão para transporta-lo até Florianópolis o mais breve possível. No dia 18-01-2021 por volta das 9 horas da manhã o Lumar chegou no centro da lagoa em Florianópolis. Rapidamente baixamos o barco de cima do caminhão e logo ele já estava flutuando nas águas da lagoa da conceição. Realmente foi muito importante ter a ajuda dos nossos amigos de vela aqui de Floripa... (Luis, Chris, Andre) para subir o mastro e finalizar o trabalho com êxito. Agradecemos a TransAguiar pelo cuidado no transporte do barco e também a Avelisc pelo apoio fundamental de nos deixar ficar atracados no píer deles por um bom tempo. Sem palavras pelo trabalho e ajuda de cada um!!! O Lumar então passou sua primeira noite em águas catarinenses no centrinho da Lagoa... Neste janeiro de 2021 está fazendo 1 ano que começaram os nossos primeiros apoios na plataforma do apoia-se. A campanha “o nosso sonho não é individual”, esteve efetivamente funcionando a partir de janeiro de 2020 sendo arrecadado um valor total 3170,90 reais, que foram investidos inteiramente no nosso primeiro veleiro. Nós sempre acreditamos na união de pessoas solidárias que buscam um mundo mais integrativo. Desde o início sabíamos que não ia ser fácil fazer as pessoas entenderem essa busca de recursos via financiamento coletivo, porém com muita dedicação e horas em frente ao computador tivemos que aprender de tudo um pouco para poder compartilhar com todos os amigos essa forma diferente de juntar dinheiro. Tínhamos um sonho, um objetivo específico, comprar um veleiro... eis que chega o momento, e agora gostaríamos de agradecer cada centavo apoiado, vocês foram MUITO importantes, confiaram e colocaram fé em nosso sonho e isso é demais!! With nice weather but no wind, we slowly make our way up the Delaware Bay and across to the Chesapeake Bay, then south to Annapolis. Lack of wind also means sunshine, warmth, and epic sunsets it seems! The views are breathtaking, we hope you enjoy them!
