We are super excited about building our bimini! We got the frame off an old fishing boat we plan to mount our solar panels on it and wanted it strong enough to walk on. The material we built our bimini with is called Expanded PVC Foam Board. We found it at a plastic supply shop. For the first time in SailGP's history a team was sent off for dangerous driving as the umpires issued a black flag but this was only part of the action in Plymouth. In the face of a tricky weather forecast the event delivered way more action than many had expected including boats speeds hitting three times the wind speed and fleet racing that turned inside out with every race and often leg by leg. Plus, there was controversy aplenty over that pivotal decision and the repercussions that followed.

Since leaving the fast paced land life behind, we knew we needed to slow down or burn out. We have learned so much since being on our sailboat, but we are still learning to slow down after all this time. We get a lesson in that after we visit the Ridge to Reef Farm here in St. Croix. We went to meet Nate and hear his story on how he started the Ridge To Reef Farm and what he has accomplished on this small island of St. Croix. Learning that over 90% of the food on St. Croix is imported, Nate is trying to relieve that with his farm and help of surrounding farms. We learned about how important a watershed is and how his is helping to provide local schools with fresh, organic produce. We learned about Chaya and brought some of this lefty green that we have never had, back to the boat for dinner. While at the farm we tasted a preview meal of the Slow Down dinner they were hosting this week and we extended our stay in St. Croix to attend the 6 course meal. It was such and experience. It's time to work on the bulkhead which separates our salon and cockpit, and we're going all out on extra fiberglass re-enforcements. Although *both* sides will get beefed up a little bit, in this episode we focus on the inner facing side of the bulkhead, which will be the entrance to our two queen bunks in the hulls, and will be the aft portion of our salon on the bridge deck. In this episode we prepare for a big storm coming with 30 knots expected wind predicted to blow for four straight days. We move anchor spots and then Bill gets to work on a boat project. Before the blow hits we decide to resolve an issue we’ve been having with our code zero furler. Our boat is currently rigged with a spinnaker halyard that exits on the starboard side of the mast. Our bow sprit (where the furler attaches) is angled to the port side of the boat. The swivel for the top of the code zero furler is jamming on the headstay as we try to furl it. While the mast was down in Annapolis we added a block to the port side of the mast and cut a new exit for the halyard. Today’s mission is to remove the spinnaker halyard and rerun it through the port side blocks. Of course this is easier said than done and requires several trips up the mast. Bill tries to run the halyard alone but eventually has to call In the reinforcements, Brian from SV Delos. The boys attempt to pull the halyard through with several different tools but are having a hard time catching the messenger line. Will they win the battle?! The wind starts to build in the evening and by the next day the anchorage is completely transformed with big choppy waves and a strong wind blowing Calico Skies around. We aren't looking forward to the change in weather but there's nothing we can do but grin and bear it. We double check that the anchor is set and then hunker down, hoping for the best.
