On an odd occasion I have had to film a yacht when the stabilisers are not working...but more often than not viewers have unrealistic expectations of what these stabilisers can do....

EP 186: We're sailing again.. but not on our boat? | Sailing the Caribbean Our weekend started pretty good; from starting a mango smoothie shop, to having a great braai (barbecue) on Hakuna with friends, sailing around on a mono hull which we hadn't done in ages.. we're not ones to bash mono hulls and say catamarans are better.. we believe each has their strengths and weaknesses and this sail made us confirm exactly how we feel.. it was pretty nice having a smooth ride upwind and not having that constant slamming you would most likely experience on a catamaran (unless you got a performance cat... now that's an entirely different story) the instant feedback on every adjustment you make.. Lady Africa.. definitely does not have that 🤪 We had a great time sailing with our friends on their 40ft Wauquiez. SHIPWRECKED sailboat on uninhabited Abrolhos island sailing WA - 117 How come we had never heard about the shipwreck of the Batavia before we came to The Abrolhos Islands? The mutiny and mayhem that took place on these beautiful remote islands, in 1629, is almost too incredible to believe. Now 392 years to the day we are anchored just a stones throw from where the drama all took place and get a chance to dive what remains of the wreck. This week we explain what happened to the survivors and how they were eventually rescued. We also visit the first European structure built on Australian soil, Wiebbe Hayes fort. He was the soldier that led the resistance to the mutiny and ultimately saved 46 men. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and Rachel purchased Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 16 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Everyone encouraged us to stay overnight at the mooring balls in the Warderick Wells Cay, Exuamas Land and Sea Park. We tried, but didn't know that to get a mooring ball you had to call in advance. They were all filled up by the time we called in, but we did pick up a mooring south of the most desired location. This was also quite beautiful, but added almost an extra 45 minutes to 1 hour of sailing time to get around the large sandbank that extends far out into the Bahama Bank. We enjoyed some snorkeling by our mooring area, but the hiking on Warderick Wells Cay was the highlight of the time in that space. We also flew our drone and Jeff captured some incredible footage. The hiking on the island was extensive, well marked and easy to follow. Don't miss Boo Boo Hill and make sure you write your boat name on a piece of driftwood and add it to the artistic collection at the top of Boo Boo Hill. It's fabulous to recognize so many boat names and cruisers. Surprisingly, we were able to get on a mooring ball in the desired area the next day, but we decided to move on instead. It was a long motor back to the park entrance, and we opted to see another island north in the chain. Warderick Wells is super popular and therefore, you have more boats in this anchorage than in other places. Neste episódio tive uma das mais incríveis velejadas até então, paisagens lindas, nascer do sol espetacular e até uma família de golfinhos nos acompanhou por boa parte do percurso. Tripulei um Fast 303 que é o novo binquedinho do amigo Capitão André Salvatore, barco sensacional! Participei da segunda perna desta aventura, a primeira nosso capitão fez de Angra dos Reis até a Ilha Bela, acompanhado do irmão Paulo Salvatore. Que bela velejada, não tinha como ser melhor! Chegamos no Pier 26 no Guarujá que, com toda sua infra-estrutura, viabilizou todo o processo de preparar o barco para ir á São Paulo na Represa Guarapiranga, sua nova morada. No Pier 26 pude ver e registrar vários veleiros de grande porte e yatchs, incluindo a raridade Classe Brasil e o Veleiro que já foi de Juan Carlos Abadia. Vou postar em breve, fique de olho no canal no youtube e no instagram @veleirobonaire. Sou muito grato ao Capitão André Salvatore pela oportunidade, generosidade nas lições, experiências e dicas. Eigentlich ein sehr schönes Segelrevier, doch konnten wir leider an diesem Wochenende durch erhöhte Pegelstände nicht segeln. Da der See direkt vom Rhein gespeist wird hat der Rheinpegel logischerweise auch direkte Auswirkungen auf den Wasserstand und es gab einige überflutete Bereiche, die die Zugangsmöglichkeiten einschränkten. Trotzdem ein paar Informationen zur Location und ein paar Drohnenaufnahmen…viel Spaß dabei…

The 61.5m (201.7ft) motor yacht CLOUD 9 was delivered in 2021 by Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo with stylish contemporary interiors by Francesco Paszkowski and sleek, dynamic exteriors by the yard's in-house team. The top deck has the bridge forward and full walkaround decks lead guests to the lounge, sit-up bar and sun lounging area aft. Stainless steel and glass guardrails deliver exceptional views with a sense of infinite openness and this deck space can also serve as an al fresco dining option. An elevator serves main to bridge decks. he lower deck aft is one of the stars of this yacht's show: a beach club open on three sides with a large swim platform aft and sea terraces port and starboard. Inside is a wellness area with steam shower and hammam, a dayhead, gym with sea views and a lounge and bar area. Twin 3,512hp Caterpillar engines give her a top speed of 16.5 knots and a transatlantic range of 5,000nm at her cruising speed of 12.5 knots. Zero speed stabilisers ensure comfort both underway and at anchor.

I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, I change my house batteries from 2x 200amp/h AGM to 3x 100amp/h Dakota Lithium Batteries. In the Video, I explain how I calculated my daily energy consumption and how I set up my whole electrical system on my 37 foot sailboat. I split the installation of my new power system on my sailboat Karl in three parts. This is the first part in which I install my new Lithium batteries. One last blissful trip before the baby arrives... that wasn’t exactly our babymoon! After anchoring in Key Largo, a tropical depression moves over bringing sustained winds and day after day of thunderstorms. Things don't start smoothly for our 300 nautical mile passage to Mexico. After waiting for a decent weather window we hoist sail and head straight out into the Gulf Stream. The seas are steep and confused and Baby Nugs loses her breakfast. Twice in fact :( We decide to hoist both downwind sails to stabilize Delos and gain speed, and soon are making amazing progress in a perfect 15 knots of wind. Delos and crew are in the groove and we have an incredible day of pure downwind sailing. Day turns to night and Brian brakes down the night watch rules for new crew Taylor. The moon rises and we have a fantastic night of moonlit downwind sailing before the wind changes and we're forced to drop sail and gybe to get back on course. To be continued in part 2! So here we have some simple sailing footage, as we bring Talisman from French Marigot Bay, in French Saint Martin, over to Simpson Bay Lagoon in Dutch Sint Maarten (SXM), then to Saint Croix in the USVI, and finally to St. Thomas, also in the USVI. This is all in preparation for a longer 900 nautical mile passage to Bermuda. But for the moment it’s classic Caribbean sailing, with 20-25 knot winds and typical nighttime squalls.
