I`m having summer fun while waiting for my boat to be inspected. Part of that fun is being in the water rather than ON the water. Also, I have been looking to the sky to increase my understanding of clouds and what they convey to a sailor. On my way to my hometown, I stopped for a few hours in Hiroshima where I had never been before. A somber few hours but meaningful. And lots of fun with the family celebrating Kande`s birthday. I am usually ON the water so it was great to be IN the water. After strong easterly winds keep us Dartmouth longer than planned we finally set sail again and enjoy a fast sail on our way to Plymouth. We spend a night at anchor on the way, sail off anchor and then head up the river Tamar. We watch the Navy do some fast boat driving and shelter from a storm opposite some submarines when all of a sudden an air attack warning causes us to think the world may be about to end! We spend a couple of nights in a marina thinking it would provide somewhere safe and peaceful to wait for weather to pass so we can head to the Isles of Scilly and but quickly realise that some marinas can be much more rolly and uncomfortable than an anchorage. We finally set off for Scilly only to turn back after the coastguard puts out an unforecast severe gale warning! Eventually after several long grey testing weeks our luck changes and we set off along the coast for Scilly. #sailinglife #liveaboard #sailingadventures #sailing #storms

Our anchor lid is so soft that you cannot stand on it in order to work the ground tackle. Why is it so spongy and weak? In this episode we open up the lid and take a look inside. After 9 months in the Pacific finally back in a place where we can find really needed spare parts for our boat! The Pacific is a challenge, our only supply shop is our stock on board Thula. After several gas leakage troubles with our fridge, even having a specialist in French-Polynesia (Ep. 65) on board not being able to find the culprit, Ilja buys an own refill kit & explains how he refills our fridge until the leakage is found. Trial and error! One more step to independency. Crossing the Pacific with one solar panel due to a regulator that caught fire, we killed our old service batteries. So here we go...special battery delivery to Thula, a visit at Panama City's farmer's market with exotic offers & chats with a native selling handcrafted goods of his people, the Embera & Wounaan from the Darién. This video was shot in April 2021, during an assessment trip onboard The Seven Seas aiming to create a new MPA in Lucipara Islands in the Banda Sea and to follow up on the new MPA in Serua island which was created during our first Epic trip. At sea for a whole month, we traveled more than 1.000 nautical miles, diving in some very remote areas. The expedition started in Sorong and ended up in Labuan Bajo. During our adventure we dove in Raja Ampat, Pisang Islands, Ambon, Kaimana, Triton Bay, Komodo and Banda Sea. I was lucky to visit and dive for the first time in Tayandu and Lucipara, which will probably become new diving routes added to the classic ones. In this short movie, you will witness the beautiful landscape of some of the areas we visited and of course some of the marine life that we encountered. Follow along this weekend as we go on a Caribbean Poker Dinghy run! This charity event raised funds for Petite Calivigny Yacht Club’s youth sailing program. There were about 80 poker players and we managed to raise $2000. The funds allow more than 20 Grenadian girls and boys to learn how to sail every Saturday. So cute. We call our little boat “Baby Bongo” and it's a different kind of boating...it does a pretty great job of zooming us around on the water. Having a dinghy is actually a really cool thing- it gets us to places we couldn’t get to otherwise. Lauren found her epic watermelon sun hat at a random shop in Carriacou and the knockoff Ray-Ban sunglasses were picked up in Saint George's for a steal at $5ec, lol. Ryan's pirate hat...well he got that in Israel during Purim way back before Covid times. Thanks guys so much for following along! We are taking requests and we have some non-alcoholic ‘mocktail’ drinks coming your way!

We head off for the long walk up to the historic forts on Magnetic Island. It’s worth the hike, if only for the amazing view from the top. On Sunday we take a look at the little market on the beach. Then it’s time to say goodbye to Magnetic Island and do a short sail to the mainland to Rosshaven Marina and the beginning of our stay on the hard to do boat jobs on Nutshell. Thanks for watching. EP 187: The BEST shower we've TAKEN 🚿 | Travel the Caribbean We headed off on an off roading adventure with our friends Andrea and Alejo from the Youtube Channel Living Hakuna (Go give them a follow) It ended up being a very slippery and muddy ride with a lot of laughter in between. We showed them around the south part of Grenada and the place we would potentially haul our our boats. The following day we headed off to one of the highest waterfalls in Grenada, Mt Carmel . It was absolutely breath taking and the water was the perfect temperature. After grabbing a spring water shower and a good swim we headed off to a isolated beach for some lunch and a good chat, once arrived home we got invited to a good old charcoal braai which we absolutely couldn't refuse with new awesome friends we met playing volleyball. Sailing into trouble, the day we almost got arrested - Ep 115 As you will see we were very naughty Kiwis when we first visited Hamilton Island. We had hired a golf cart and where off exploring the island when the boys jumped off the back and ran alongside the cart as we drove along one of the back roads. We didn't actually see much wrong with this. It was boys having a bit of fun, away from the crowds and hurting no one other than maybe themselves. Security saw it as very black and white. We got our wrist slapped and escorted to the buggy hire to admit our crimes. We are stoked if you take the time to watch our journey. Even better if you take the time to 'like', 'comment' or 'share' (or all of the above) our YouTube videos. These are free things that help us enormously. Thank you! Rob, Rachel, Finn, Declan, Ivan https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis BACK STORY In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob decided to row a tiny seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and Rachel purchased Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 16 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis
@Barefoot Doctors Sailing - this week we face the destruction of our Leopard 50 Catamaran by fire and discuss the surprising extra stresses that are involved in dealing with the legalities and liabilities that you have as the vessel owner, even if the problem was not caused by you! See amazing footage of the million dollar boat be destroyed in 5 minutes - you will not believe it! Last week, we made an amazing free offer for medical assistance to any cruising yachtie on the water anywhere in the world who needs advice if they have a possible skin cancer. We can assess the the risk and what action needs to be taken and the timeframes required! No cost, no catches, just sharing our experience for the broader good.... PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!! Binge watch and come barefoot with us as we travel and explore the planet, mostly from the water but sometimes through the minds of others as we provide aid and support where needed through the amazing TUFMINDS solutions! The free TUFMINDS program is released as a smartphone program under the Exqisit Life Foundation Charity, a registered not for profit and requires financial support to fund the free program. Shroud Cay was our final stop in the Exumas and it didn't disappoint. We loved our time there especially because we were able to reunite with our friends Carolyn and Keith. We met them the day we checked into Great Inagua. They are a lot of fun and similar to us, they are new cruisers. We all laughed as we shared stories of our mishaps and accidents in our first 6 months of cruising. The next day, at high tide, we picked them up and headed over to the mangrove river. From satellite views, it appeared that the delta of the river into the ocean looked like a pretty amazing spot to check out. And, it was extraordinary! I loved it because I could hike the ridgeline and get amazing views of the water as well as the mangrove river and but then we could also walk out on the sand bars and get great drone footage. Many thanks to Jeff for his drone shots. He did such a fantastic job! Our time in the Exumas was coming to an end which was disappointing, but we looked forward to heading north and seeing friends and family! #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects #BAHAMAS #SHROUDCAY #SHROUD #MANGROVERIVER #MANGROVE NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. We both deal very differently with being in a marina now full-time. For one of us, it's great. Finally, time to relax and enjoy the luxuries of land life again. The other one struggles a bit more to adjust from the freedom and private life at anchor to full-time marina life. Can you guess who is who? Enjoy the episode! We edit all our videos completely ourselves because we love to share the adventure, a bit of extra love by leaving a comment and/or like to the video is very much appreciated! 🤗 #lagoon42 #catamaran #sailing ---- Hi! We had the pleasure of getting some refreshing news from our Spanish friend Carlos, loyal Tiwal captain since the beginning and top contender for several Tiwal Cups. We found him in the small Ceuta bay on the African continent: change of scenery guaranteed. Carlos took the opportunity to practice his favorite sport with the Tiwal in his luggage. That day the gusts of wind between 21 and 25 knots did not seem to frighten him, even equipped with his 7m2 / 75 ft2 sail. Then followed a surf competition with his friend Jorge, who was following him with his inflatable kite in big waves. Carlos testifies to the event: “In these sailing conditions, it's a constant battle! It's like fighting Mike Tyson! Better not to capsize and to keep your weight well at the rear to avoid tipping over." In the end, Carlos had a good cruising speed of 9 knots on average,… and a good dose of adrenaline with friend! -------------------------- Subscribe for more Tiwal sailing videos : https://www.youtube.com/c/tiwal?sub_confirmation=1 Learn more about Tiwal and check out our Best Videos : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLp7rkGxzrxNpemhhNJ0kB8mHF9q0IZWBA -------------------------- ** The Tiwal 3 Sailboat ** The Tiwal 3 inflatable sailing dinghy comes in two bags that are easily transportable by car, boat and even by plane. This small inflatable sailboat is easily assembled in 20 minutes without any tools. Easy to handle, its sailing qualities will give you a thrilling experience. Very responsive, stable, and comfortable in light winds, the Tiwal 3 is dynamic in more challenging conditions. Whether you’re sailing solo or double-handed, it is perfect for your adventures at sea or on a lake! Boat of the Year Award | Best Innovation | by Sailing World U.S.A. "The thing was a blast. I couldn't believe how well it sailed. You could have some serious fun with this, especially in big breeze." -------------------------- ** The Tiwal story ** * The Birth of Tiwal * As a girl, the first time our founder Marion Excoffon was told, “No!” by her father when she asked to use the family boat, her life as an inventor began. It was then she started dreaming of building her own craft, an ambitious feat that would come true years later. On the road to creating an innovative high-speed vessel for everyone from kids and first timers to expert sailors who want to test limits, there were a number of prototypes, failures, challenges and headaches. But, if there’s one thing Marion’s known for, it’s her sailor’s grit! * Combining Fun & Technology * The award winning Tiwal concept is easy assembly and storage - maximum fun and performance for watersports and activities. A Tiwal isn’t your average dinghy! Our design is the result of tons of coordination, talent, and technological savvy. * A Growing Global Community * For our community of Tiwal skippers (more than 2,500 worldwide!) all this innovative design means their focus is fixed on the pleasures of watersports and having tons of fun on a responsive sailing craft. With excellent upwind and downwind abilities combined with high-speeds, Tiwals are a part of both fun and professional performance. The Tiwal 3 received the Boat of the Year (Best innovation) Award 2014 from Sailing World in the USA and the Red Dot Award, with recognitions, accolades, and smiling faces continuing to join together on the waves worldwide.
