Back in 2016, one of our good friends and supporters agreed to buy and lease us this amazing IMOCA 60, with the support of team founder Pierre Casiraghi we started the campaign and decided to call her Malizia. The goal was the Vendee 2020 to have a Monaco flagged boat and a German team in the race. After the big race, the team did an intensive refit and in June 2021 we sold her to Romain Attanasio. If being given a free icecream at the side of the road isn't the sign of a great day exploring Wales, i don't know what is. If waterfalls, pine trees, flowers and rolling landscape appeals to you, this is the video to watch. We start the day by driving into the Black Mountains to seek out Llyn y fan fach. After deciding against a swim, we hike directly up to Picws Du at 749m. After getting caught in a downpour, we then head through the Glasfynydd Forest. This was probably one of my favourite areas of Wales i have ever been to. My Subaru loved the long roads stretching for miles amongst the forest. After attempting to find the Usk Reservoir, we then headed to the smallest stone circle ever- Cerrig Duon and found an enchanting waterfall nearby which we couldn't resist swimming in. The final stop of the day was another waterfall along a two mile trail near the Cwm Clydach. The swimwear was wet from the previous swim so a little skinny dip was had! Ooosh, its the most liberating experience. I hope you all enjoy! This week we start sailing to the Tuamotu islands, and it’s a race with our two friends to make the slack tide of the atoll in Raroia. Sailing with two other boats that are both faster then Merewether, we have to push her to the max to keep up. This makes for an uncomfortable sail. The constant splash from the ocean and the banging of the boat as she heads into it almost breaks more then just our spirits. Our beloved hydrovane gets a good beating when the wind hits 32 knots and is about to snap off. Tensions are high. After the three day race we finally see the atoll. Lining up the entry to the pass, it has to be passed during slack tide due to the rushing current all other times. Kieran is loving life, almost flooring the throttle but only moving 1.5 knots. We were still enjoying the boat life in Martinique to the fullest; sunshine and crystal clear water is all you need here. But after some time relaxing in the Bay of Saint Anne, we were itching to go out sailing again. We decided to go on a day trip to Les Salines, just around the corner. And a few days later we decided it was time to discover some other places in Martinique before we had to leave. We prepared to sail along the west coast of Martinique. Our first stop would be in Anse d’Arlet, after about 2,5 hours of sailing. It was a relaxed, sunny and calm trip. We dropped our anchor a little south of Anse d’Arlet, in Anse Chaudiere and tidied up the boat before enjoying a beautiful sunset. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

Les Antilles, le mythe, le rêve pour des milliers de navigateurs aguerris ou non, mais les Antilles qu’on se le dise, derrière le doux bercement des alizés, le soleil infaillible toute l’année et les paysages de carte postale, peuvent être impitoyables et surtout terriblement sournoises en bateau. Car avant d’atteindre les baies protégées et les plages de sable blanc, bordées de cocotiers, entre les îles, il y a les chenaux ! Et les chenaux, nous nous en méfions. Ils peuvent être violents, voire très violents. La cause, le vent qui peut sous effet venturi forcir et surprendre. Pour cette raison, mon capitaine préfère, une navigation sous vent léger. Et pourquoi se priver, avec 15 nœuds de vent de travers, Blacky avance entre 8 et 9 nœuds ! Juste la bonne allure pour lui pour se mesurer au Lagon 420 de nos amis sur la même route. Ils sont deux, emblématiques de l’île de Sainte-Lucie, ils s’élancent avec allure dans le bleu azur du ciel et ont donné le nom de notre escale pour la nuit, nous mouillons aux deux pitons ! Welcome to the Paradise ! Je m’en souviens bien de ce petit cliché rêveur énoncé par les boats boys à l’arrivée près de ce petit joyau des Caraïbes. C’était le même il y a 6 ans. Ils arrivent, tout sourire au départ en vous disant qu’ils sont là pour vous aider, pour vous amener jusqu’à votre bouée. Vous avez alors le choix, d’accepter l’offre et de débourser 10 voir 15 euros pour la seule participation qu’ils vont avoir à vous tendre l’amarre de votre corps mort, ou bien, vous pouvez refuser ! Mais là, en fait, l’objection n’est pas vraiment une alternative reçue avec fairplay et à ce stade, les sourires s’évanouissent et les interjections remplacent la belle phrase évocatrice du paradis ! Alors, avec complaisance, on essaie de discuter, d’expliquer qu’il y a d’autres façons d’accueillir le plaisancier, qui va en plus devoir s’acquitter d’une redevance de 20 dollars, elle officielle aux rangers. Rendez-vous compte, 20 dollars plus 10, rien que pour une nuit et sur notre propre bateau ! Le paradis semble ne pas avoir la même valeur de partout ! Après un départ aux aurores au moteur et un passage dans trois nœuds de courant, notre lion s’engage, trois-quarts arrière, entre Sainte Lucie et Saint Vincent. Quelques fronts subliment l’horizon. Derrière une masse de nuages, la Soufrière se fait discrète ! Elle n’est pourtant pas timide, il y a à peine quatre mois, sa colère a fait trembler. Plus de 20 000 personnes ont été évacué pour fuir les pluies de cendre, les chutes de blocs et les bombes volcaniques. Depuis, la zone est sous haute surveillance. Action que nous aurions peut-être dut mettre en application durant cette traversée pour nous éviter la déplaisante surprise d’un fond de calle plein d’eau douce, notre dessal n’ayant pas été dirigé vers les cuves ! Le ciel tropical, le sable, la végétation, les trois couleurs qui symbolisent Saint Vincent les Grenadines flottent sur notre patara. Samuel, l’agent attitré aux formalités nous a libéré en deux heures. Au total, 180 dollars pour les autorités et 20 dollars pour la bouée. 🌺 Ia Orana, Juillet 2020 : les premiers vents Maraamu arrivent sur la Polynésie Françaises. Ces fameux vents du Sud-Est qui ouvrent la navigation depuis Tahiti vers les îles du Nord : Tuamotus et Marquises. Je laisse passer le premier Maraamu de juillet, trop fort à mon goût et générant une houle de 3 mètres. C'est en août 2020 que je me lance vers le rêve de ma vie : la traversée de Tahiti vers les Iles Marquises avec mon bateau ! En 2 jours nous rejoignons Makatea, une escale enchanteresse, puis nous atteignons les Marquises en 6 jours de navigation sur un seul bord ! La houle est contraire, parfois croisée et bien formée. Les grains sont nombreux au passage des Tuamotus. Le vent à 15 noeuds établi, monte en raffale jusqu'à 30 noeuds sous grains. C'est une navigation éprouvante mais pas impossible. Je prend alors confiance en mon bateau acheté 6 mois plus tôt... Cette semaine nous quittons la Tanzanie pour une nouvelle destination. Par contre tout ne va pas toujours comme prévu ! Sur la carte le pont que nous désirerons franchir indique 17 mètres de tiran d’air, et notre bateau fait tres précisément 20.50 m même avec une marée tres basse de moins 3 mètres, il va rester un demi-mètre d’incertitude … Et comme toujours dans la joie et la bonne humeur propre à Javerne. Maintenant que l’ouragan est passé, on entame la liste de projets pour réparer ce qui est brisé sur Atypic; le vérin hydraulique, les ordinateurs, le cellulaire… Entre les tâches quotidiennes on trouve le temps de s’amuser avec nos amis dans le mouillage, on se fait entre autres un souper poutine Québécoise en Martinique, on part en randonnée jusqu'à la plage des Salines, on fait un tour de pirogues polynésiennes bâties à la main et Atypic se transforme même en camp de jour pour 1 soirée ! Wir haben die Biskaya innerhalb von drei Tagen überquert. Das war für uns der erste richtige Hochseetörn. Wir haben ein gutes Wetterfenster genutzt, indem der Wind stetig abnehmen sollte. Es kam jedoch etwas anders...Wir sind dennoch sicher angekommen. Erste Erfahrungen haben wir auch mit unserem Gennaker gemacht und viel dazugelernt. Einiges müssen wir jedoch noch optimieren. Wzięliśmy się trochę za robotę, niewiele bo niewiele zrobione, ale zawsze coś. Wyjęliśmy balast z jachtu, czyścimy laminat, odrywamy kawałki resztek laminatu. Odkręcamy drobne pozostałe elementy. Powoli przygotowujemy kadłub do matowienia od środka by zabrać się za "zalepienie dziury :)" i wy-laminowanie środka kadłuba by odświeżyć stare poszycie i dodatkowo wzmocnić kadłub. Trochę wam opowiem o całej historii tego przedsięwzięcia. Będzie nam miło jak zasubskrybujecie kanał. W ten sposób zawsze pomagacie.

Traverser les océans et les mers pendant plusieurs jours demande une préparation. Car on sera loin des secours et de l'aide. On sera livrés à nous-mêmes en cas de problèmes techniques. Alors il faut inspecter le bateau et tester tous les appareils. Sur un bateau pendant un tour du monde à la voile, tout peut tomber en panne à n'importe quel moment. Les connexions des appareils électriques et électroniques s'oxydent à l'air marin chargé en sel, les tissus et les coutures sont grignotées par les UV des tropiques, des algues poussent sur la coque. Bref, tout s'abîme très vite quand on vit sur de l'eau salée. Dès que la météo le permet, nous partirons pour la traversée de la Mer des Caraïbes. De l'île de Sainte-Lucie en direction de Curaçao. Les premiers jours de nos vacances sont consacrés au carénage du bateau. C'est une première pour nous. Une fois sortie de l'eau , nous comprenons mieux pourquoi le bateau n'avançait pas très vite. Nous avons choisi de prendre la prestation de nettoyage à haute pression et on ne regrette vraiment pas. Un esprit de partage, d'entraide entre les plaisanciers qui ,comme nous , bossent sur leurs bateaux nous réconfortes. Nous avons choisi de remettre une couche d'époxy avant l'antifouling érodable. Je n'ai pas réussi à filmer tous les travaux effectués car parfois seul sur le chantier et les mains bien sales c'est très difficile de tout filmer. A la suite de ce chantier , le bateau avait un comportement complétement différent. La barre est devenue très souple et le bateau plus facile à diriger avec une vraie sensation de glisse qui sera très agréable pour les 2 semaines de congés restantes (à voir prochainement ) . #voilierenfamille #voilierjeanneauRush #carenage
