This video is courtesy of Alex del Olmo @naucratesuw This short movie focuses on hard and soft corals in Raja Ampat during my season on board The Seven Seas Cruises. Each diver has its preferences. Some love big fish and pelagics, others turtles, some of them colorful nudibranchs. To me without any doubt my favorite subjects are corals. My heart is filled with happiness when I dive in a healthy reef in brisk current. It is more challenging to shoot them but you get the greatest reward: polyps broadly open and feeding, soft corals displaying their whole magnificent and colorful shape. Raja Ampat and Misool area are probably the best place in the world to witness this fascinating and unique ecosystem. Without coral reefs there would be no life on earth, and sadly they are threatened and its our duty to protect them. If you like my work, you can grab many of my best shots on footage.film/?refs=20

Ever wondered what it was like to step foot on a liveaboard? Want to go down memory lane and revisit our vessel? Here is a short video we filmed during our last trip in March to showcase the authenticity of The Seven Seas experience while living and scuba diving onboard with us. https://www.thesevenseas.net
During the last 2 months we were running 3 trips in a row: Sorong-Ambon, Ambon-Ambon and Bau Bau-Labuan Bajo. In this video you can see some of the highlights from from these trips around Raja Ampat, Triton Bay, Banda Sea, Wakatobi and Komodo. We had majestic whale sharks, beautiful soft corals, incredible reef scapes, beautiful walls, amazing critters and of course, plenty of fish. Our last one was an exploratory trip around Wakatobi islands and Komodo. It was a blast! Needless to say we were over the moon to finally run the FIRST trip with 100% international guests in more than 2 years! https://www.thesevenseas.net
Testimonials from international guests returning to The Seven Seas Expedition from Sorong to Ambon via Triton Bay and The Banda Sea.
This video was shot in April 2021, during an assessment trip onboard The Seven Seas aiming to create a new MPA in Lucipara Islands in the Banda Sea and to follow up on the new MPA in Serua island which was created during our first Epic trip. At sea for a whole month, we traveled more than 1.000 nautical miles, diving in some very remote areas. The expedition started in Sorong and ended up in Labuan Bajo. During our adventure we dove in Raja Ampat, Pisang Islands, Ambon, Kaimana, Triton Bay, Komodo and Banda Sea. I was lucky to visit and dive for the first time in Tayandu and Lucipara, which will probably become new diving routes added to the classic ones. In this short movie, you will witness the beautiful landscape of some of the areas we visited and of course some of the marine life that we encountered. Short movie created by our cruise director Alex for Triton Bay divers resort using mixed footage from his trips onboard the Seven Seas and Triton Bay Divers. Triton Bay is far away and quite isolated. This makes it one of the few gems left in the underwater world and has become one of the favorite spots for many underwater photographers/videographers. Shallow reefs with plenty of light, incredibly healthy and diverse coral, and loads of fish. And of course whale sharks! https://www.thesevenseas.net/triton-bay-cinematic/
The Lucipara and Penyu islands are located 200 km south of Ambon in the middle of the Banda Sea. The islands can only be reached by boat during a few months each year during the change of the monsoon. Famous for its resident seaturtles, the island group has been identified by the local government to become a marine protected area. © Tommy Schultz https://www.tommyschultz.com/
Some reef fish species form spawning aggregations, often at reef promontories that have strong current. These sites are very fishy, and it is no surprise that these sites are also important for local fisheries. This video shows various aggregating reef fish species at three sites in the Sermata Islands, Southeast Indonesia.
A school of female coral trout (groupers) on their way to or leaving the spawning aggregation. Video by Purwanto, taken during the Seven Seas' EPIC TRIP in November 2020. https://www.thesevenseas.net/counting-myself-lucky/
Site filmed in Komodo 20 years, ago, now fished out. Similar site found in Sermata on our EPIC trip, with same species. This site in the Forgotten Islands is also being fished heavily but it would *not be too late* to protect it… By Benjamin Kahn
"With the Raja Ampat season approaching and the Seven Seas anchored in Labuan Bajo during the Covid lockdown, Captain Mark needed to move the boat to the eastern islands to be ready for guests joining the Raja Expeditions in December. As he plotted the course of more than 1,300 nautical miles through some of the most epic (and unexplored) islands of the Indonesian archipelago, he realized that in the midst of the challenges brought by the global pandemic, an opportunity had presented itself: ‘The thought of steaming back empty across the Banda Sea, with no guests onboard, and only to wait in Papua for Covid to end, was not particularly appealing. As I was locked down far away in Australia, I could visualize all the tiny islands and reefs scattered across the Banda Sea like gem stones surrounded by the crystal-clear water we call Banda Blue.’ Captain Mark then resolved to make some good out of a bad situation and put together an expedition of fisheries scientists, marine conservationists, and professional photographers / videographers to join a once-in-a-lifetime mission of discovery and appreciation for the beauty of the Indonesian archipelago. Thus, the Epic Trip was born. With borders closed to international flights, Captain Mark assembled our team from a lucky few who were already in Indonesia and had been tested for Covid. Having endured nearly 8 months of isolation, the idea of getting out of the house and joining a small team of committed conservationists on a trip of a lifetime on the Seven Seas didn’t require a second thought. I signed on as quick as I could hit ‘reply all’." Read on: https://www.thesevenseas.net/epic-trip-komodo-spice-islands/ By Tommy Schultz, https://www.tommyschultz.com/
