We weighed anchor at Gilligan’s Island Anchorage around 8 AM despite some forecasted squalls. Once underway, the sea proved rougher than expected, and we encountered two powerful squalls with 40-knot winds and 2.2-meter waves. With the main sail double-reefed and only our stay sail up, we were surfing down waves at nearly 11 knots—a speed I hadn’t seen in Kaizen before. Navigating past Cabo Rojo Lighthouse in Puerto Rico, I had to hand-steer around the corner and adjust our course, running downwind instead of turning up at the island’s end due to the intense wind. It was an eventful day that truly put our sailing skills to the test!

Location: 16.16580° N, 61.78150° W This hourglass freighter 50 m deep was built in Denmark in 1958. It sailed to Copenhagen and then to La Rochelle in the '70s. The Franjack lies flat on her keel on a sandy bottom at 24m in good general condition except for the forward cabin which is collapsed. In the engine hold of the Franjack, you can see green moray eels and lobsters; there's always a surprise. The wreck is covered in sponges.

After spending hurricane season in Ocean World Marina Puerto Plata DR. We finished the last of our DIY projects in preparation for our first sail of the season off the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. We end up dodging several fishing nets along the way and marked each position to give us a better idea of how far off the coast we should sail. After an overnight passage, we arrived in the early morning hours at Samana Bay. We were enchanted by the beautiful jungle and amazing caves that the Taino lived in before we crossed the Mona passage to Boqueron, Puerto Rico. The trip turned out to be a gorgeous one thanks to the help of the gentlemen’s guide to passages south. We were able to pick a great window and sail the majority of our trip. Thanks for watching ⛵️❤️

We’re headed north to Guadalupe slowly, making day hops. Today was some beautiful sailing from Bequia to an Anchorage on the northern side of St. Vincent. Blowing about 18 knots of wind with gusts up to 24 knots and nice sea state.

After spending a few weeks in black point bahamas waiting out rough weather, we finally get a good weather window to sail to Georgetown Bahamas. Dotham cut ended up incredibly rough and sailing turned into motoring into George town. We anchored in Monument and explored Stocking Island. Our visas were up in a few weeks so we had to make our journey back to Florida. After some sporty sailing through Eleuthera Bahamas we cross to Highborne Cay (pronounced Key) where we begin our journey exploring the Exumas. Unfortunately while tacking we made a silly mistake and tangled our jib by not applying enough tension on our furling line. While Dal untangled the line I struggled to keep us in the wind due to a 6ft shallow spot off to port and a fast-moving motor yacht. Explore the Exumas with us as we swim with sharks, pigs, and a wrecked drug smuggling Plane Don’t Forget to like and subscribe for more adventures onboard Kaizen! After arriving in the Dominican Republic for hurricane season we dug out our dock lines in preparation to go into a slip. We knew we were going to have to replace our dock lines before we left the States so we bought 150 feet of 3-strand nylon. After 5 days on the dock, it was time to replace the old with the new!

A brief walk-through of a Tayan a 55 we looked at back in August 2022. It was a beautiful boat with a unique layout for a Tayana 55. A few of the unique features are: -Large forward storage/crash bulkhead. -Aft estate room with head on starboard and separate shower on the port side. -Forward double birth on the port side and single birth on the starboard side. -Walk-in workshop and engine room. We created a post https://svkaizen.com/tayana-55-walk-through/ with a few more details about Tayana 55 sailboats.

After provisioning in Marsh harbor we explored Hope town Bahamas for a few days. Then sailed to another anchorage near Tiloo Cut where we got to help a family who had run aground. We stayed at this gorgeous anchorage for a week and tried to spear fish in a rocky cove close by. The Abacos has some gorgeous views and we really enjoyed our time there. Next episode we finish up our time in the Northern Abacos and make our way to Eleuthera Bahamas! Make sure to like and subscribe thank you for watching!

After saying goodbye to Severin we sailed through whale cut (which is known for having rage 😡) too Marsh Harbor to provision with as much food as our wagon could hold. This was our first cruise with just us as a family. We were nervous not having Severin onboard with us but did well juggling kids sails and weather. Don’t forget to comment like and subscribe!

After Picking up Severin in St Augustine. We started the long track south to West Palm Beach. As we prepared to make our way to the Bahamas we had to do an emergency haul out in Rivera before finally setting off across the Gulf Stream. Watch us as we make our way offshore for the Bahamas! Thank you Severin for helping us get here! We had a blast sailing with you!
