I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, the empowerment of my sailboat Karl continues. After installing 3x100 amp/h Dakota Lithium batteries, I am now installing two Xantrex interferes: one is 2000W @220V and the other one is 2000W @110V. Looking forward to run whatever tool comes to my mind in the future on those! Ohhhh, and one more nifty gadget is installed: a battery monitor. I did not have one before and I am totally captivated by this little device and spend way too much time in front of its screen, hehehe. I split the installation of my new power system on my sailboat Karl in three parts. This is the second part in which I install my new Xantrex Inverters and battery monitor. The first part dealt with the installation of my new lithium batteries and part three will show the installation of my four new xantrex solar panels (each 100W) So stay tuned for more electrical fun on Karl. We see a lot of strange things underwater, but this has to be the strangest! We heard a rumor of bizarre objects about 1 mile offshore from Isla Mujeres. With some possible GPS coordinates in hand we decide to spend the morning searching. Imagine swimming along and finding a sunken car, then a bunch of kneeling headless statues, then a group of coral-covered people. What the heck is going on here? Well you'll need to watch to find out :). After returning from our exploration mission we comment on how nothing has broke on Delos in a while. Well, we should have kept our mouths shut because we had a major system failure involving the generator, toilets, AC, and even the water maker. With temperatures over 100F we start troubleshooting right away to pinpoint the problem hopping for a common point of failure. This is why we put up with the storms and calms. Out of sight of land, sailing across an ocean can be a magical experience. I used to wonder what it felt like to be surrounded by nothing but the vast ocean and sky, at the mercy of the weather, with limited supplies, no internet, no pressures of modern life and just one other person to talk to. This week we’re sailing our Seawind 1600 catamaran 40 NM from Provincetown to Gloucester through the waters of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, the summer home to 3 major whale species, Humpback, Fin and Minke. We’re keeping our eyes peeled and our fingers crossed for a whale sighting. While conservation is now a priority there is a long history of whaling in this area, Nantucket in particular. We paid a visit to the Whaling Museum while in Nantucket to learn about this storied past. Innumerable whales were sacrificed to illuminate homes, lighthouses and streets in the 18th and 19th century and used as an ingredient in pharmaceuticals. Thankfully whaling in this part of the world has been outlawed for many years and conservation efforts to ensure a healthy population are a major priority. A huge thank you to the Nantucket Whaling Museum and to Miranda for giving us an enlightening tour & sharing so much knowledge about Nantucket’s history. In this video, we continue our exploration of Bora-Bora with Sailing Vessel Amanecer. We head to shore after some morning boat chores and find a view point on a hill. We discuss the strange phenomenon of how the island breaks up the steady wind, and turns it into powerful gusts on the leeward side of the mountains. We move the boat to a new mooring near the Bora Bora Yacht Club, where we go for a little walk down the road, and then chill out to play some pool and have a drink. Next we head up the hill and see some old gun emplacements that were installed for the Pacific campaign in the second world ward. Thanks for watching! After reprovisioning in Darwin for our anticipated 3 month journey into the Kimberley's we head off for Western Australia. We cruise along the coast day tripping to Fog Bay where we find an amazing salt water fall fed by a rock lagoon where we take a dip to cool off. This weekend sees the start of the Maxi Yacht, ROLEX Cup, conducted by the Yacht Club Costa Smerelda. Open to yachts upwards of 18.29 meters, that's 60 feet in length, the entry list features a selection of the world’s fastest, most powerful, and impressive monohulls. Five days of competition are scheduled, offering a programme of primarily coastal races that allow the fleet to take on some of the world’s most impressive, natural racecourses. Located off the YCCS’s stunning headquarters in Porto Cervo Sardinia, The R Y A conducts regular courses for all facets of the sport of Sailing. Two of which, we feature this week. First is Wind-surfing for women, and the other is the new sport of WING-Surfing. If you are interested please contact the R Y A. Stage Two of the French Solo Race, la Solitaire du Figaro, known as "The Lonely One," finished at Fécamp, east of Le Havre this morning. Pierre Quiroga who Skippered Macif 2019, took the overall lead on the Provisional General Classification by 1hr and 36 mins, after Stage 1 winner, Xavier Macaire on Groupe SNEF, had to dive on Monday evening to remove a fish pot from the keel of his Beneteau Figaro 3. Macaire still lies second overall but, after losing touch with the leading pack, crossed the line today in 14th, over two and a half hours after 28-year-old Quiroga who scored the first Stage win of his career on his sixth participation. Three good races on the Bay of Palma yielded three different winners in the 52 SUPER SERIES fleet at the 52 SUPER SERIES Puerto Portals Sailing Week and 20th Anniversary Invitational regatta with Takashi Okura's Sled team emerging with the one point lead over Doug DeVos' Quantum Racing. In the six boat Invitational regatta Karl Kwok's Beau Geste is proving unbeatable with five wins from five starts. For a second day in a row the wind abandoned the Wannsee in Berlin, Germany. Therefore the 2021 5.5 Metre German Open, at the Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee was decided by a single sailed race, the long distance race on Friday. Following the success of Garda’s most historical windsurfing race, the RRD ONE HOUR CLASSIC with more than 100 competitors, this event, the RRD ONE HOUR WINGFOIL EDITION will be an opportunity for everyone to challenge and experience a new unique race format on a wingfoil .There will be a prize money of € 2000 and a freestyle show in front of the club. With the wind blowing offshore for the one race which was sailed at the 52 SUPER SERIES Puerto Portals Sailing Week & 20th Anniversary Invitational tacticians and strategists had a more challenging day than might be usually expected on the Bay of Palma. In the 52 SUPER SERIES fleet it was Adam Beashel supported by Jeremy Lomas at the back of Sled who made the most of the opportunities on the first beat and the team which conclusively won the Porto Cervo regatta in 2019 took their first win of the regatta to move into second overall.

Because of the limited freedom of movement, what else can you do but work a little longer in the galley on board? You can't clean the ship every day and retighten all the screws. Es entstand im Winterlager in Almerimar, wo man trotz der milden Temperaturen auch wieder mal Lust auf sowas hat. Allen Vegetariern unter Euch kann ich empfehlen, einfach das Fleisch weg zu lassen. Mit dem Segelschiff ist man bekanntlich nicht nur unterwegs sondern im Gegenteil sehr oft stationär vor Anker oder in einem Hafen. Insbesondere die vergangenen 2 Saisons mit den verschiedenen Lockdowns aufgrund der Corona Pandemie war man gezwungen, längere Zeit am gleichen Ort zu verweilen. Was bleibt einem da infolge der eingeschränkten Bewegungsfreiheit übrig, als an Bord auch mal etwas länger in der Kombüse zu werken. Man kann ja nicht jeden Tag das Schiff reinigen und alle Schrauben nachziehen. Darum kam ich auf die Idee, als Variante mal einen Einblick in die Küche unseres Katamarans Zubenubi zu geben. I had bought a new speed&depth instrument, and drilled some new holes for the cables. It was afternoon, I was tired, I drilled and I drilled, and all of a sudden I had drilled all the way through the hull, and got a fountain on the floor. Luckily for me, I have a very skilled and helpful son, who – that very evening! – was on the way to his boat, which is at the same pontoon as mine. This Youtube-thing is always present in my mind, so I arranged a camera to film while we tightened the hole. I hope you forgive me for putting the blue bowl in the middle of everything… I wanted to have some bowls close, to collect the water in, but as it happened, they were of no use. My son agreed that I should do a video about the event.
