We’re up on the hard at the Rosshaven Marine boatyard. It’s time to sort the new sails out. Magnus begins by putting the new staysail on the Reefurl furler which we installed quite some time ago in 35 knot winds! Meanwhile Wendy is busy painting the plinth for the new toilet to go in later on. Nutshell gets her first coat of bottom paint which is a primer coat to bind the new antifoul brand to. Magnus removes the old mizzen sail which is literally falling apart in his hands and installs the new crisp, white mizzen in its place. We open one of the curries which we canned over a year ago to see what it has turned out like. We both survive! Thanks for watching. This is part two of our first hurricane on our sailboat. And, we survive! All is well in the Evans boat home. We had a pretty great hide away and the storm didn't hit nearly as hard as predicted - even got downgraded to a tropical storm (only 70mph instead of 75mph). Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. EP 189: We got HAULED OUT! | How Bad Does She Look After 7000nm ? It was time for us to haul out! Now.. if it wasn't for our flanges on our sail drives.. we probably would not have hauled out at all.. but since we have to do those and we can't do it in the water.. (we attempted that.. it was an epic fail) we had to do it on land. Grenada's haul out fees are reasonable so we opted to do it while we had the time and could afford it. Once Lady Africa was out.. we could assess how much work needed to be done how how bad was she really after 7000 nautical miles. #111 ✍️La pioche est plantée dans la baie de Charlestown. Une mauvaise odeur nous titille les narines. C’est comme les fuites et les bruits, les relents en bateau, c’est hyper vicieux ! Ça s’immiscent malicieusement dans des coins les plus inaccessibles et vous fait perdre la tête ! Alors, on se lance dans les recherches et quitte à tout chambouler pour trouver l’embarrassant irritant, nous en profitons pour dégivrer notre congélateur un peu trop glacé. Quel plaisir d’avoir à bord cet appareil domestique qui stocke durablement les aliments. C’est un vrai luxe, surtout dans des destinations comme ici, où l’avitaillement est plutôt restreint. Côté fruits et légumes, nous arrivons toujours à trouver, c’est plutôt le réapprovisionnement en viande qui est plus compliqué. Mais quand on vient aux Grenadines, ce n’est pas non plus pour faire des courses, on y vient pour profiter de ses charmes et vivre au rythme du temps et finalement, nous n’avons pas besoin de grand-chose ! 7,6 kilomètres carrés pour 750 habitants et des centaines de tortues de terre, c’est la démographie de Canouan. Comment peut-on imaginer que sur cette si petite îles des Caraïbes entre Union et Moustique, un casino et un golf aient vu le jour ! Juste impensable, et si seulement ces richesses apportaient un soutient de conservation à ce petit joyau. Remarquez, peut être que des investissements ont été fait dans ce sens, mais si c’est le cas, nous ne les avons pas vu ! Tristement, avec les voitures de golf qui pourrissent dans les jardins et les détritus éparpillés un peu partout, l’île nous semble être l’une des moins bien entretenue ! Et sous l’eau, c’est même histoire, alors certes ce n’est pas non plus la pollution que nous pouvons voir en Asie, mais dans ces eaux si belles, cela nous brise le cœur. Le constat n’est pas non plus dramatique et les spots enchanteurs restent encore les points forts, comme cette jolie petite plage dotée de ses cactus qui longe Rameau Bay. Elle sera l’espace d’une journée, avec des bateaux copains, notre petit coin de paradis pour partager une tranche de vie. Car le voyage, c’est ça aussi, ces instants de convivialité et d’échanges qui se créés par la magie des rencontres.
